The Tag For Makeup Addicts

The Tag For Makeup Addicts

Hello, hello, hello everyone! Today I am back with a TAG post which is exciting because I’ve not done one of these in a while. A huge thank you to the lovely Sheri from berrixbeauty.blogspot.com. She is a lovely Australian blogger, who focuses mainly on beauty but writes wonderfully well in whichever topic she chooses. I especially love her tips on starting University - very helpful!

Also this tag seems perfect for me, as I gaze at my dressing table and sigh because the drawer of palettes is over flowing, my muji drawers are unorganised and the bowls which I keep my current rotation seem to be over spilling. Tsk.

Anyways on to the tag, so I can procrastinate organising makeup for a while longer.

1. Which Product do you keep buying more of despite having plenty in your collection?

Hmm the first thought that came to mind was concealers, because I always seem to be picking up Collection’s lasting perfect in the 3for2 sales, however the thing that I keep buying more of is blusher. I just cannot get enough, especially when it comes to brands like Illamasqua and NARS who’s quality and longevity blow me away. I recently bought this ‘box of blushers’ from Benefit which is well worth checking out if you’re new to their shade range (post here). My Sleek blush-by-3 collection is nearly complete and WELP the x-mas sales are fast approaching so y’know I’ll probably have added 2 or 3 more of Illamasqua's line because they KNOW HOW TO DO A SALE! NARS, Chanel and Dior if you could take note and knock 50% off your products too I’d be super grateful. Thanks xox

2. What’s the one product you can’t live without?

Concealer. Of two shades, an orange/peach tone more specifically the Benefit Erase Paste in Shade 3 and a lighter and thicker shade to cover brighten up the darkness and hide the redness/blemishes.

3.Favourite Makeup Brand?

Excuse me, but whoever came up with these questions should know this was a stupid question for a makeup lover ._. Idc I’m not picking one: NARS, Illamasqua, Bourjois and Rimmel London. They can have a quarter each ;D

4. How big is your makeup collection?

It’s very big. Enough for me and enough for you and probably a small mound left over. Haha how terrible does that sound? In fairness I use the majority of it, and it’s not even a tenth as large as some of those crazies on YT with whole ROOMS dedicated to makeup! Still though, I’m happy with what I have and recognise that I have enough...for now.

5. And how do you store it?

I have a stack of muji drawers which I may be doing a post about in the future. I keep all palettes in a large drawer in my dressing table. My current rotation is kept in a large heart shaped bowl on my desk and lip liners, eyeliners and extra concealers are all kept in these cute DIY’d pots which I made a post about here. I am also slightly guilty of having a draw of things I need to use once the current one is finished, egg mascaras from beauty boxes, eyeliners etc..

6. How many items of makeup have you got in your handbag at the moment?

A fair amount! Due to commuting at quite an early hour I like to be well equipped to do my eyeliner and add a bit of lippy before my journey is over. Currently I have my bourjois healthy balance powder, 3 lip products,an eyeliner, a mascara, and a lip balm.

7. If you could raid another blogger’s stash, who would it be?

This may be cheating because she is a HUGE international blogger, but c’mon who wouldn’t want to raid HudaBeauty’s stash?! The photos on instagram have me swooning all the time, and as she’s only a touch fairer than me I think I could get away with her foundation shades. *sigh* A girl can dream right?

8. How long does your usual makeup routine take and how many products do you use?

I’ve managed to get it down to about 8 minutes and that is concealing under eye circles, a light base/quick dabs of concealer, brows, blush and an all over bronzer. However when I give myself the time I like to sit for 15-20 watch two YT vids and take my time with the eyeshadow, highlight and a little bit of contouring too.

9. Have you ever bought makeup knowing your wouldn’t use it?

...not KNOWING that I wouldn’t use it, but sometimes of FragranceDirect I did get a little bit carried away with the insane bargains and through trying to get to the free delivery amount I have bought one or two shades of lip products which clash disastrously with my complexion. But aside from that I’ve got no idea why ANYONE would buy makeup despite knowing they wouldn’t use it??

10. Tag a few other makeup addicts to do this tag!

This was a fun little tag to do! I tag:

Tanjia & Maryam from Beauteabible,

Louise from nonfictionbeauty

Tamana from TamannaMUA

Kal from TheClutteredCloset

Nabiha from thesundaywardrobe

and if you’ve done this tag please leave your link below! Are YOU a makeup addict?

My Autumn Nail Picks

Hello ladies ^_^ today I want to share the polishes that will be in my autumn rotation. For this season I like royal blues, maroons, and antique(ish) shades.

rimmel salon pro my denim ciate dangerous affair zoya aubrey rimmel posh trash

From L-R: My Denim, Dangerous Affair, Aubrey*, Cappuccino, Posh Trash, Members Only

Rimmel Salon Pro | My Denim - This is the PERFECT royal blue shade, a opaque rich colour which only needed two coats. Furthermore the chunky brush size, which I thought could make it more tricky to apply, actually helped so much! In two swipes my nail was coated in an even layer, no fiddling about with filling in the odd spot that I had missed- you geniuses Rimmel! The formula is one of my favourites too, I could easily be mistaken for it being highend ^_^

Ciate Paint Pot (mini) | Dangerous Affair- This is a mini from one of the Ciate gift sets I purchased from fragrancedirect.com. It has a pretty poor formula to be honest, taking at least three coats to reach this level of opacity, but the colour itself is a gorgeous mix of burgundy and plum. I don’t know why the camera wouldn’t pick up on just how dark this shade really is, but its a very classy pick.

Zoya |Aubrey* is the first shade I tried from the brand and considering the price point, it has met my expectations. I own two O.P.I polishes and this is on par, if not better in terms of formula and the brush size too. The shade is little ME in a bottle, I adore purples on the nails, and this slightly warmer toned one looks stunning on my olive skin!

Barry M | Cappuccino - This was my first ever nail polish purchase! I wore this shade non-stop and still like to pull it out from time to time. I would describe it as a blend between purple and grey, and it again completes my skintone nicely. I always find that brighter and lighter shades look a little off on me, so the more purple/dark tones are generally me favourite (although royal blue is an exception!).

Rimmel Salon Pro | Posh Trash - A gorgeous bronzy gold which is quite understated so suitable for school and work. I’ve already talked about my love for the this range, and the opaqueness of this in one swipe is impressive. If not one every nail, this looks AMAZING with all darker shades, as the one on your ring finger.

Ciate Paint Pot | Members Only - Ok ladies I’m not 100% sure why I added this into my picks (painted the wheel a while back.) I mean sure its a nice sheer colour and could look pretty as the ring finger shade but honestly, but take it as a little heads up, not worth your precious monies.

All my Rimmel polishes and the Ciate minis I purchased from fragrance direct who are simply the BEST when it comes to your nails! The discounts are phenomenal ^_^

Do you have any favourite shades for this time of the year?

My Autumn Essentials

my autumn essentials the blushing giraffe

Hello everybody ^_^ I hope you’re all well. Uni has really started to take it’s toll on me, hence the lack of posts. I think more than anything it’s the lack of light and less time for photography which is adding to this dilemma! Anyway’s the clocks are turning this weekend so hopefully that extra hour will help us bloggers out a little ^_^ I wanted to make a little post about the things I think are Autumn Essentials, on we go;

lipsssedited
A lip balm that actually works
There are tonnes of lip balms on the market, but for autumn everyone needs one that actually does what it is supposed to do. I’m currently using up a pot of carmex which I got with a glossy box, and it works pretty well. My ultimate favourite, however is the blistex one (reviewed here).

Berry/Brown hues for the lips
Everytime autumn rolls around people dig out their favourite berry shades, and I’m usually not an exception to this - albeit picking sheerer tones. This year I’ve leaned more heavily towards the 90’s inspired brown tones and mauvey shades. Two of my favourites are Essence’s XXXL longlasting Lip Gloss in MATT effect - 06. This is a beautiful dusty rose/mauve shade and I would describe the finish as more of a velvet kind than matt. It feels pretty moisturising and suits most looks, so it’s a total winner for me!

The second one I’ve been loving is a new release from Rimmel London, their new Provocalips in the shade Make your move. I will be reviewing this real soon hence the lack of swatch, but it is the most PERFECT longlasting lip product I have ever come across. Ever. Oh and it’s not drying! I also adore their lip liner in the shade Spice. It’s extremely flattering for women of colour, and mix between the Kylie G and 90s lip, well worth picking up!

Zoya Polish in ‘Aubrey’

I was kindly gifted this Zoya polish in Aubrey* and quickly fell in love with the shade. I don’t think they could have picked a more ME shade actually! My favourite colour of all time to wear on my nails is purple, and this is such a complimentary shade for olive skintones. The formula is just what I would expect from a quality brand like Zoya (which is toxin free) and it lasted a decent 4 days before I had any chips which I was very pleased with ^_^

Also when writing this post it just hit me that Drake’s first name is Aubrey so every time I apply this now I’ll probably be humming a Drizzy tune haha.

Illamasqua blush in Allure

What is it about this time of the year that makes skin look a little dull? The lack of sunlight, the cold weather or maybe the business of Uni having started. Whatever it is, picking a blusher that has a satin finish, or even a tiny bit of shimmer is a really easy way to bring some life into your face again! People tend to shy away from anything shimmer, and that’s how I felt about the Illamasqua blush in Allure for the longest time, however once blended in with the RT duo-fibre contour brush, it really gives a gorgeous glow to the skin and you can barely see the shimmer unless you’re like 5cm away from my face. Plus the shade is PERFECT for autumn, a stunning dusty rose/mauve which looks like meh in the pan, but amazing on the skin!

L’Occitane rose hand cream the blushing giraffe

I have a large bottle of the Soap& Glory hand food on my desk so whenever I sit down to do some work I give my hands a bit of TLC. I’ve had this since last December and it’s still going strong, so do check it out this year when they have their amazing 3for2 sales on! I also love having a tube of hand-cream in my bag. At the moment I have the L’Occitane one which I got free with a mag a while back, (and I believe there’s another magazine out right now that’s offering a similar bottle!) and not only is the packaging pretty, but it smells delightful and is non-greasy too.

These have been the best shoe investment this year. They’re super comfy and make commuting a breeze. Especially when waiting around for the bus to come, sometimes I’m standing for half an hour and so I need to have shoes that give my feet the VIP treatment every time ;D plus they’re so classic and go with the whole old-school vibe of brown lips rather well. I’m a comfort over style person 99% of the time, and if you’re on the market for comfy versatile trainers I’d really recommend picking these up.

due to not possessing the swaggy skills of fblogger I have no decent photo, sorreh

Those are the things that I have been using time and time again this autumn, and each of them I think you should would like too.

Have you got any Autumn Essentials? I’d love to read what they are ^_^

P.S Due to the rubbish lighting I thought I’d snazz these photos up with some filters and whatnot from picmonkey. Turns out the snazzing got a little outta control, I hope this doesn’t become a habit._.

BENEFIT BIGGER THAN BB BIG EASY

Hi ladies! I hope you’re all well, just a quick post today after yesterday’s Harry Potter book - I wanted to share with you all how I got Benefit’s bigger than BB BIG EASY for free. without paying a penny. Like f’real!

Now my fellow bloggers will probably already know about this, but I had to make a post for the ladies who follow me and don’t blog, so we could all take advantage of this if we want to. I mean come on, a base that costs near the £30 mark, gained from reward points in less than a month??? Of course I’m super excited to be sharing this ^_^

We’ve all heard about reward systems, the boots card, the Superdrug card, the BOGOF etc.; and I’m very partial to all of these. Where there is a bargain to be had, I shall have it because why pay more? In fact I would say 70% of my makeup collection was bought through some sort of money saving offer or point gaining offer. I hate buying makeup when it’s not on some kind of offer to be quite honest because everything is sooo inflated in the UK! (well obviously not Makeup Rev and MUA). If you want to know more about how I save money on makeup click here.

IMG_9489

So anyways as you may know I have recently subscribed to birchbox, the primary reason for that was the free gift (beauty blender and cleaner during September). I was so thrilled I shared it with everyone, on my blog, instagram, on the various whatsapp groups and I was pleased so many women would be able to get such an awesome offer! Those that did use my referral code, got £5 to spend in the birchbox e-shop, and I in turn got £5 back to spend, so all together I made £40 out of referrals! Plus you can make more by reviewing the products in the box, on the birchbox site. Now if that isn’t the most generous reward system beauty-wise, out there, I don’t know what is!

IMG_0001

So if YOU want to start getting deluxe samples from high-end, less known and organic companies, in the cutest little boxes (and sometimes bags) PLUS saving up a bit of extra mullah to treat yourself here's what you need to do!

1. Sign Up To Birchbox With This Link

This’ll give you £5 to spend in the e-shop already!

2. Use BBXY5 to get £5 off your October birchbox!

A special treat from birchbox, for all new subscribers meaning it’ll cost you £5 + £2.95 for this month.

3. Order your birchbox and then start sending out your referral code ^_^

You definitely don’t have to be a blogger to refer people, copy and paste the link in a text message and get friends and family to check our birchbox for themselves or their friends. You can also enter email addresses directly into the box, on the personal referral page, and finally the most easiest of all, you can click on the facebook and twitter buttons to instantly send out a message with your referral code!

IMG_9500

It was the nicest surprise to log into my birchbox account and find I had £40 of credit! The e-shop has a decent range of products, and some of them on my wish list are: The Balm’s Instain Blush in Toile, Caudalie Beauty Elixir, Stila Convertible Colour in Gerbara, Liz Earle Beauty Co Cleanse and Polish starter kit.

This is by far the most generous reward/referral system I have ever come across and with the range of amazing products (not just makeup but also food, skincare, body, lifestyle etc. with a range of different price points, whether 2 people or 20 people are referred through your link, you’ll get an amazing treat just for spreading the love!

Plus I love the range of brands and how generally they are all ethical/not associated with funding Zionism.

I’m really excited to try the better than BB, a base I’ve heard a tonne of good things about. I hope you take advantage of the £5 offer for this month only, and enjoy earning reward points too ^_^

Review | bareMinerals bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation - bare buff 10

bare minerals bareskin foundation bare buff 10 swatch review

Hi everybody, I hope you’re all well! Today I am going to be reviewing bareMineral’s brand new foundation, which I mentioned in this haul. It is their first ever liquid foundation, made with the same philosophy as the rest of their line to ’provide women with good-for-you alternatives to foundation’.  It has been made with ‘bare minimum’ ingredients and provides a brighter, youthful finish whilst still providing a natural look and feel. Sounds almost too good to be true right?!
This will be one of my longer reviews as I feel like a lot of people want detail and in-depth info. I also think a lot of people who get the sample bottle (which is adorable btw) may not use it properly and so do not experience the beauty of this unique base product. Take the time to read about how to use this and then apply it properly and I’m certain you’ll notice its beauty!

So first things first, the best way to describe the bareMinerals bareSkin foundation (£22 from this link only) is as a tone correcting mineral foundation and skincare serum in one. According to the BareMinerals website ‘100% of women experienced more even-toned skin immediately after application’ which I do agree with, and also 95% said they found ‘measurable improvement in the appearance of dark spots’ after using this for 8 weeks.

What bareMinerals Say

I did have a little look at what bareMinerals have to say about this, and I’m going to try and round it up into one paragraph. This is a ‘tone correcting mineral foundation’ and ‘skincare serum’ in one. Non-Chemical, formulated without silicone, fragrance, water, and oil. It is super-charged with lilac stem cells, which I had no clue about either till I read on the Sephora website: ‘Lilac plant stem cells are recognized for their exceptional healing abilities and are known to provide powerful antioxidant protection. BareMinerals extracts these cells, fortifies them with their unique mineral complex, and infuses them into their formula to improve the appearance of skin and help defend against environmental stressors.’ Now that to me sounds like a whole lot of fancy mojo, and we shall see if it does make a difference to the skin, which in all honestly is hard to tell when sticking to a skincare regime anyways because is it the foundation or the skincare?? It contains SPF 20 wonderful as it means I can skip the SPF in my routine! It contains vitamin C which helps to give that brightening effect and for me personally, the best part is that this is paraben free.

The Packaging

It’s a plastic cylinder, opaque bottle with a black lid. Not luxurious and actually not very functional. You literally have no idea how much product is left, which I know will be frustrating when I do get near the end because I actually adore this foundation and when it runs out and I’m not prepared I shan’t be pleased -_- Another slight disappointment is how messy the inside of the lid gets, very much like my former favourite MAC F&B, but not a biggie.

The foundation comes out of something that is similar to a pipette, but on a larger scale. When watching demos before buying this, I was surprised to see them squeezing the bottle, I don’t ever have to squeeze it. After giving the whole bottle a thorough shake I pretty much shake out three drops on the back of my hand and they come out without a problem!

bare minerals bareskin foundation bare buff 10 swatch review

The Application and Consistency

This foundation/serum has been described as ultra-thin, and I would 100% agree with this. It is the silkiest, most liquidish base I’ve ever tried. Now the idea with this foundation is to build up drops, if you want more coverage you add more drops. They recommend starting with two drops and adding two more for medium and two more for full. I, however always drop 3 onto the back of my hand, and I find this gives me perfect medium coverage. Using my middle finger I dot the liquid foundation all around my face, and then taking the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush I spread the foundation downwards, and then buff it in anywhere it looks uneven or streaky. I did try my fingers, but found that the liquid was too thin to achieve a flawless finish, so the density of the Expert face brush’s bristles are perfect for applying this! I’d also like to mention that drops go a long way! When I read about the product I thought it was bizarre that only a few drops could get a decent coverage, but I would recommend starting off with less and adding more where you need it, whilst being sure to blend it in properly.

bare minerals bareskin foundation bare buff 10 swatch review

SHAKE SHAKE, SHAKE SHAKE, SHAAA SHAKE IT!

if you do NOT shake this, it doesn’t matter what your skin looks like before applying this, when you do put it on your face you’ll find a blotchy nightmare. Why shake it? because the reduction in ingredients means this foundation doesn’t have a binder in it, so you gotta shake it all up to merge the foundation together so it can actually work how it’s supposed to on your skin. Shaking this stuff is so important that they’ve even illustrated it on the bottle for you in case you forget! I think the main reason why the bareMinerals counters are providing samples in adorable mini size is because it is SO important to shake it up, so don’t expect nice results if you don’t follow the instructions.

bare minerals bareskin foundation bare buff 10 swatch review

The Finish

Due to it being such a light-weight liquid consistency, I cannot feel it on my skin at all when it has set. That is a pretty amazing feat because normally when you apply anything all over your face, you can kinda feel it there! This is without a doubt a dewy finish, and I would very much agree with the instant brightening claim. I was blown away by how well this evened out my skin tone and gave me the most radiant glow. It blended seamlessly into my skin, and allowed beauty marks to show through.

Now as for the buildable coverage part, I did have some trouble. The reason being is, I started with my 3 drops and then wanted to try and add more coverage over the cheeks area. However when applying more product onto of the first layer, I found that no matter how I used my brush, it seemed to disturb the under layer and simply make more of a mess. It also started to look slightly cakey on the dry skin around my nose, so honestly I would say if you want more coverage you have to be prepared to add little by little, work in sections and allow layers to set. If you ask me that is WAY too much effort to get a fuller coverage, I would rather apply three drops, see my skin even out and brighten like no tomorrow, and then go in with a concealer on blemishes and excessive redness. That is the way to achieve a flawless look from any base product, especially one with such a light and liquid feel to it.

P.S again my swatch on the far right is not doing it justice at all, but you can see that it's evened up my hand haha, added brightness etc; You can see it much clearer on my instagram and there will also be a quick application video ^_^

bare minerals bareskin foundation bare buff 10 swatch review

Lasting Power

The only problem with the super dewy finish is I did have to set it in the places my face gets the most hot. Mainly my nose and around my mouth. Using a touch of the Bourjois Healthy Balance powder this kept it in place for a whole 11 hours. WITHOUT primer and powder it lasted on my skin for 8 hours, and with P&P it looks decent after 12 hours. Now I will say that if you live in a very hot country, are super oily or get hot very easily this foundation will not be your best friend. The weather here in the UK has been so bizarre, and I have found getting dressed to match the weather quite a challenge! Unfortunately the day I decide to wear my gorgeous green thick slouchy-yet-chic sweater from H&M, I’m in a lecture hall which has no AC and over 50 people. The result? (bearing in mind this was 10 hours AFTER application, but with powder) half the foundation had migrated, and I was left with very pink cheeks, the redness around my nose showing and my dark circles pretty much exposed, due to poor setting. It stayed on my forehead and chin, but simply could not handle the heat after that amount of time. Note to self: this is NOT the base to pick when you know you’ve got a very long and challenging day ahead.

Did it meet my expectations?

YES. I wanted a light/medium base that was similar to and could subsequently replace my MAC F&B as I am now boycotting MAC cosmetics. BareSkin provides me with medium coverage, a dewy finish which I can set and change to satin, it brightens up my skin, looks absolutely radiant and best of all blends so seamlessly that it could really look like bare skin! Whilst F&B lasted longer without the need for primer/powder, it did leave a slightly tacky feeling on the skin and was thicker in consistency. It also did NOT include SPF.

The ease of blending this in flawlessly as-well as the SPF, vitamin C and plant extracts make it a whole lot better for my skin than F&B! I will admit that I have relatively blemish free skin, and I don’t know if this would do a good enough job in covering up acne scars and breakouts. So if you look for medium-full coverage, I would probably avoid this because it would take a lot lot lot of effort to build this up to 100% coverage and you’re better off purchasing an actual foundation which is supposed to be thicker coverage.

You can purchase it for only £22 from here (normally £26) which is an amazing price for 30ml of this, considering the lack of harmful ingredients and the beautiful finish you are left with. Also remember a little does go a long way, so it's a better idea to buy a mid-range base like this and use less, then to buy a highstreet foundation and use more. (Not to mention that you'd never get this sort of finish from a drugstore foundation, believe me I've tried!)

This to me is a lovely daily base and I think that bareMinerals have done a great job. I don’t know how they got a foundation/serum with such a small amount of ingredients to be able to correct my skin tone, blur imperfections and yet still look incredibly natural and effortless! It really is like nothing I have tried before. I just wish it would work better with dry patches :c

Final Verdict:

Rating: 6
Pros: light consistency, a little goes a long way, blends seamlessly, gives a natural yet flawless look, is brightening, contains no parabens, silicone, fragrance, water or oil, is MINERAL!, blurs out uneven skin tone with no effort at all, is a better substitute to the MAC F&B in many ways, comes in a range of shades, contains vitamins and plant extracts, in general just makes your skin look evened out and glowing with radiance, it provides medium coverage if you are looking for a base that will even out skin tone and boost complexion this is the one!

Cons: packaging isn’t very functional, you cannot see how much product is left, the lid gets messy very easily, I took 1 off for the lasting power, which you can extend with primer and powder as I have mentioned, but I would have loved it if I didn’t need to take those extra steps, from my experience you cannot get FULL coverage. It makes dry patches look even more terrible, which is a shame seeing as it's so runny I would have expected it to glide over them, but it can look a right state around my nose.

Repurchase?  *updated* No. Since this was one of my first higher end bases I saw the difference between drugstore, both in quality and how accurately it matched my skintone. However since then I have tried many bases and can compare them to this, which I have been using for over a week. So in comparison, this base doesn't really set and I can feel it on my skin which is irritating - maybe I've become a bit of a snob after trying the likes of MUFE and Dior??? Either way I wouldn't recommend this for everyone and its one of those bases that starts off as an exciting new love and ends with later when you realise that actually compromising on the longevity and how it feels on the skin isn't really worth the pros!

EDIT: 17/4/15 So its been a couple of months since I purchased and reviewed this, I have to say I've noticed it doesn't fare very well in the heat so I had to knock off a point for that. Gotta make sure that I apply powder properly in order for it to last, not too bad but worth noting!

Have you tried this yet? What are your thoughts?

Current Night Skincare Routine

current night time skincare routine
Hello ladies! A couple of months back I shared my morning skincare routine (read here), and today I’ll be discussing the items I’ve been using recently at night. As I said before this is the first year I even started a skincare routine, and so I’m switching things up pretty often. This is why every now and again I’ll be sharing the items I’m using ^_^

I also want to mention that skincare is SO important. A lot more so than you may realise at first, but without a good bareskin base it’s hard to achieve an even finish with makeup on top. The best way to address what YOU need for your skin is to think about the issues your skin has, is it blemish prone? Oily? Dry? Dehydrated?

Personally my skin was normal/dry and sits now more on normal because I’ve consistently been using moisturising products, oils and just generally taking care of my skin! I also have uneven pigmentation and very dark circles. Aside from that I have been blessed with fairly decent skin so do keep that in mind, what works for me may/may not work for you.

IMG_0143

A few weeks ago I picked up this adorable cake stand from Sainsburys. It was on sale and I’ve been obsessed with the whole heart theme recently, so I knew it would be perfect for my dressing table! I like to keep all my little current skincare bits and bobs on here, not only are they all in one place and easily accessible,  but they match the heart shaped bowls that keep my current rotation all together. Of course I can’t keep EVERYTHING on here, like the larger bottles, but it works well for pots and tubes. (Also they’re generally lying down, contrary to this photo haha).

For under my eyes I have been using 100% sweet almond oil, which I discussed in a post recently. I have heard that this specific oil is good for dark circles, and with continuous use over the past month I have noticed a slight reduction! However I’m not making any wild claims, I have trouble sleeping often and so my dark circles are pretty much a never ending battle...we shall see if there are any differences in a few months!

If you’ve ever read up about the benefits of Olive oil you will know that it has a tonne of uses and SAO is just as awesome. So much so that I have been using a few drops of this as replacement over moisturiser for the night time, just lightly patting it into my cheeks and forehead. I have normal/dry skin and since using this instead of a moisturiser I have been waking up with plump, hydrated skin. I would also happily use this as a cleanser too, because its 100% natural and super nourishing! I can’t say enough good things about the OCM, but do be sure to research a little into it as it has changed people’s skin for the better (and saves a heap of money too).

Around my mouth/upper lip area I have some colouration/uneven pigmentation. I think is pretty natural, however I also have a hunch that my skin was coloured for a long while by using a facial bleach D: Before I started threading the upper-lip area, I used to bleach it and lets just say facial or not, that stuff can be very strong! I’m not sure if I applied it for too long or perhaps too often, but I do think it left lasting pigment.

The only thing I could think of, that targets uneven skin tone which I could think of was Bio-Oil. Now I know that this is great for stretch marks, and it’s probably not the most gentle oil to apply to facial skin because I hear it contains mineral oil. However I have just been applying two drops every night, directly over the upper lip/mouth area on my face and much to my delight the results have been amazing! I would say it’s faded by 85% which really blew me away. This was such a ground-breaking product for me because it means I have less concealing to do and I can get away with one layer of my base too.

superdrug deep action anti-blemish gel
For blemishes and redness I took a chance with Superdrug deep action anti-blemish gel and because it was so cheap, to be quite honest I didn’t have high hopes. However it has reduced the redness around my nose slightly, and it’s also somehow calmed down spots/red areas. For such a small price tag, this 15ml tube is pretty awesome!

A very recent addition to my night routine is this Pearl Drops Beauty Sleep Overnight Serum  which I bought on a whim. I will report back if there is any noticeable difference, and indeed if I even remember to use it regularly! It’s pretty self explanatory but y’know a gel for the teeth to whiten them, a must attempt for tea lover.

For lips recently I’ve just been using my classic carmex moisturising lip balm which I got in a glossy box. I think its a decent lip balm, with a slight tingling sensation, a thin consistency but still managing to add moisture. I don’t feel like its the best for overnight, as I don’t wake up with super soft lips and all in all I still prefer my blistex to this, but like I said it does the job!

And that is it for my night-time routine! I am currently using up my makeup removers from The Body Shop and Garnier, both brands I will not be purchasing from again because they both support Israel’s war crimes (or are unfortunately owned by a super brand that does). I know this is a bit of a random selection but these are what have been working well for me lately.

Have you been tried any of these? and also do you use any oils in your night time routine?

Thanks for reading!

Review | Bourjois Délice de Poudre bronzing powder & highlighter

Bourjois Délice de Poudre bronzing powder & highlighter review

Hello everybody, I hope you’re all well. Today I am going to be reviewing Bourjois’s bronzer and highlighter duo, or the fancy term: Bourjois Délice de Poudre (£7.99) After using it for about 3 weeks straight I am well and truly ready to share it with all you lovely people! The drugstore are getting good at creating these 2-in-1 products, but I can’t think of many decent contour and highlight kits aside from Sleek’s, so this was already well anticipated since I saw the release!

This duo is packaged in the same way as Bourjois’s well known delice de poudre and featuring the same scent too - of delicious chocolate (how they actually get it to smell like choccy I have no idea, but I’m certainly not complaining.) I also love the magnetic clasp, so if you pop this in your makeup bag, not only are you continently saving space and getting 2 products in 1, but the powder is securely protected and won’t open up!

As you can see the bronzer itself is shaped in four cute chunks, very much like the original. On the right hand side is the illuminating highlighter, which is almost white and not very pigmented. On the left is the bronzer which I would describe as a fantastic contour shade for light-medium skintones. It isn’t orange in colour when applied moderately, but it's just cool enough to give the perception of a shadow on the cheeks, adding definition without going over board. Although you can see slight shimmers in the pan, this doesn’t translate onto the skin at all, so I would describe this as a matte subtle contour. I think it gives a lovely naturally tan appearance, however it can be built up for more of a contour. For skintones over NC35, I think you could have a hard time getting this to show up as a contour and so it would work better as a light bronze all over the face.

The highlight shade does appear quite stark and I did shy away from it at first. However bourjois are brilliant at getting the pigmentation of their bronzers to a very buildable state. Meaning that one swipe won’t have you left with streaks on your face! The highlight/illuminator does take more building up (which is a good thing for a subtle everyday look). Using this has introduced me to how stunning white/silver toned highlights can look when used subtly and perhaps when not so bronzed.
Bourjois Délice de Poudre bronzing powder & highlighter review
As mentioned in my September favourites this really surprised me, it doesn’t look like much when you first swatch it, but I found myself enjoying using this often as it gave a beautiful subtle contour without much effort at all.  In comparison to the Sleek contour kit, I would say this shade is in between the light and medium powder. It gets the balance between warmth and definition spot on so unlike the contour kits from Sleek, it’s extremely hard to over do it!
In my 3 contour categories, quick, natural and sculpt, I would classify this one in the quick contour. I mean it could be a natural one too, as it is subtle, but for me the speed at which I can add a tad of definition is what impresses me the most.
I’m terrible at doing swatches, but I found some gorgeous ones HERE.

Final Verdict:

Product rating: 7
Pros: The bronzer is matte and works as a great contour for light-medium skintones. The pigmentation of both illuminator and bronzer are buildable. It smells like chocolate and looks like it too! It’s hard to over-do and quick to apply a dash of definition on the cheekbones and along the perimeter of the face, so a great product for on the go! The magnetic closing and the sturdy cardboard make it even more travel friendly. Having two products in one is not only convenient but saves space and money ^_^ Also I should mention that you get a heft 16g of powder, which is a generous 8g of each ^_^

Cons: The bronzer shade is not fantastic for deeper skintones. The highlight/illuminator is a little TOO sheer for my liking, I have to do a lot of building up, and I would have liked a small mirror in here for travelling. These are pretty minor in comparison to the quality of the product.

Repurchase? Yes I think I would, this has become a solid reliable product for me and I like how its so quick and easy to use. I wouldn’t rely on this for all over bronzing as I prefer something warmer, but for quick contouring...me likes!

What is your favourite contouring duo?

Here are a few of my favourite blogs...

Hello everybody, I hope you’re all well! This weekend it has been Eid, and I’ve enjoyed two days of kicking back and spending time with the family. Although I love my job, I don’t remember the last time I had the full Saturday and Sunday to myself and it was awesome!

I decided today to share with my lovely readers a couple of my absolute favourite blogs. I reads so many blogs on a weekly basis and consequently I have a good few favourites so I’m going to be doing a couple of these over the next few months ^_^ These six blogs here are ones I check on a regular basis and I have been for months now. If you have a bloglovin account, follow these lovelies and thank me later! (Oh and be sure to download the bloglovin app on your smartphone which’ll make it easier to keep up to date, and have a catchup when you’re on a train or waiting at the doctors office etc.)

Vanessa | Citron and Guavaberry

Vanessa was one of the very first blogs I followed a year and three months ago, we had both started blogging recently and it was so nice to connect to someone who was absolutly hilarious, from across the world about beauty! Onto Vanessa’s blog, it’s by far one of the most outstanding I have read. This girl is SO incredibly talented with photography and she just modestly brushes it off, but go have a flick through a couple of her posts and you will be blown away. Vanessa is also known as the Blush Queen *swoons* I love Vanessa’s wit, the occasional GIFs used and the way her swatches are ALWAYS perfect (she is magic at fotos ok). Also she has some amazing advice/tips posts for photography/lenses etc.

A few of my favourite posts from Vanessa: The Autumn Flushes, You Just Got Litt Up, The Photography Edit (These will make you believe in love at first sight for sure)

Daphne | Subgenre Of A Dream

Another blog that I’ve been following for well over a year, Daphne’s blogposts are wonderful and she occasionally makes YouTube videos too! I love the style of Daphne’s writing, with both her beauty posts and her personal/updates. I’ve also learnt a lot from her blog posts, and that is what I really value in blogs that I read, when something from a post sticks in your mind (eg her continuous raving of the NARS tinted moisturiser, or a revision tip) you know it’s a fantastic blog! Also I adore bloggers who add little anecdotes here and there, it is such a lovely personal touch that can make reading about an eyeliner, or a face mask a whole lot more interesting - so enjoy those as you browse through her beautiful blog!

Kal | Cluttered Closet

I’ve been following Kal’s blog for around 6 months now, and it’s easily one of my favourites! The variety of beauty posts and the way she adds so much detail to her reviews makes her recommendations invaluable. I picked up the Bourjois CC cream which I ADORE because of Kal’s fantastic review! Kal has several ‘series’ on her blog one being ‘Top 5s’ and another being ‘Under £10’. She covers a range of price points, and hair as well as beauty products. Her product directory (which is updated often unlike mine) features an impressive array of reviews, and like I said the level of detail included in each is really appreciated it! Plus Kal is just such a lovely caring person, do follow her on twitter too ^_^ Oh and I should mention Kal is around NC40 in skintone and so makeup wise, her blog is extremely useful if you have the same skintone especially! (Of course her posts are awesome for all skintones but I say this because I know I have a lot of asian followers who could do with another blog written by medium skintones to add to their list ^_^)

A couple of my favourites from Kal: Top Five: Kiko Cosmetics, Under £10: Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation, TheBalm Dream Team

Louise | Lilting-Grace

Louise’s blog and Vanessa’s blog, those two are the ones I immediately turn to when I need a bit of cheering up, because they both have an amazing ability to lace their fantastic humour into posts about beauty! Makeup AND funny? Yes Please ^_^ Miss Louise to me is the Lipstick QUEEN, and quite the high-end one at that! Her photos are gorgeous, I think nearly each post includes a GIF which normally has me tearing up with laughter, and the reviews are just brilliant. Very honest, very accurate and detail with beautiful clear swatch photos and selfies that will give you MAJOR HAIR ENVY!! Louise is now a cruelty free blogger, so for any of my readers that are also boycotting, a lot of the products Louise talks about have the thumbs up (seems that brands that are NOT cruelty free regarding animal testing, also donate large amounts of money to having Palestinian children murdered, coincidence? hmm.)

A few of my favourites from Louise: Tarte Haul and First Impressions, Because, I like dressing up like my grandma sometimes-- Bésame Summer 2014 'Resort Collection' Haul and Review, I spent too much $$ but it's okay because it's true love-- A review on the Guerlain Rouge G's

Pauline | Asianhomie101

Pauline is one of the nicest girls I have ‘met’ through the blogosphere, and I am so thankful to be able to connect with her through the web! She is a YouTuber as well as a blogger, and her reviews are phenomenal you guys. The level of detail included is just fantastic and something which I think a lot of bloggers can get sloppy on, when you want to know about a product you want to KNOW all about it y’know? Not just if it worked for that person, and I really appreciate that Pauline understands this. She also has lovely GRWM vids and lots of recommendations from the US drugstore too!

A few of my favourites from Pauline: Four or more makeup tag, Review of Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Pomade in Dark Brown, Video: Back to school: Makeup Touch Up Bag

Poppy | Miss Everyday Elegance

Poppy is the only fashion/style/lifestyle blogger I check regularly because honestly I’m not massively into fashion, but Poppy’s blog is filled with inspiration, beautiful large photos and of course Poppy herself who is utterly gorgeous! Seriously she could easily become a model, and again HAIR ENVY ALERT! I love how Miss Everydayelegance is has great tips for finding gems elsewhere from the highstreet, as well as DIY clothes upcycling and in general a mix of updates and tips for the petite (something I am not, but a heads up to any of my petit readers!)

A few of my favourites from Poppy: Summer Reflections, Thrifty Winter Coats, A New Lease of Life

These are the six blogs that I have been following for a while, and each one I check on a fairly regular basis. They’re gems, each of them and the bloggers themselves are wonderful people who I feel very lucky to have met through the blogosphere! I have so many more wonderful blogs to share with you, but for now enjoy these and feel free to comment below some of YOUR favourites! Sharing is caring as they say ^_^
