January 2016 Update

Hello hello hello! Welcome to another update post, if you’re new to my blog these are monthly posts where I have a little catchup with you all and kind of recap my month. They started out as being mainly for me, but I’m so glad there are a few of you who really enjoy reading these as it increases my motivation to write them more. So January 2016, IT. HAS. BEEN. TOUGH. I was not prepared for how exhausting the first month of 2016 was going to be and it’s not been easy in any sense of the word, that’s for sure. It wasn’t all bad though, tiring doesn’t have to equate to negativity, it can be a sign of change and growth which are good, just not the norm!

School Direct // Thinking About Post Grad

A few months ago I made the decision to apply for the school direct teaching route, which is an intensive teaching year in which you spend 4 days in a school working alongside teachers and one day of the week training. I have known that teaching is the right career for me since I was 16, when I started volunteering as my old school, being in the classroom environment and helping children to learn and grow has always given me great joy. During my first year of University I was really considering going down the educational psychologist route, however almost three years later I have realised that a pHD is not for me! I have been in the education system since I was 4 years old, so that is 16 years of going to school, taking exams, learning and development. Personally I feel like I have reached the end of my education level and I don’t wish to continue on to do a masters. I feel so ready to be in the classroom and so finding out that there was a route into teaching which would offer me this, yet also allow me to get my PGCE (the qualification you need if you wish to teach abroad) was fantastic. I am very fortunate that my nearest school which offers the school direct teaching course is literally down the road to me and I actually used to volunteer at the school myself so it is a familiar place. The application was strange, because I hadn’t written a personal statement in years and trying to describe exactly why I want to be a teacher was a challenge to do with a word limit! I must have conveyed my passion in a good enough manner because I was invited to an interview on the 13th of January and they gave us a lot to think about beforehand. I won’t go into detail with the rest of this process, because I have been asked to write a separate post on my experience which I am happy to do once I have completed the final step. By the way the sunrise photo above was taken on the morning of my interview and it gave me such a boost, you just can’t beat a beautiful sunrise/sunset.

Skills Test

One thing you have to complete before you are taken seriously when it comes to teacher training, is the maths and english skills test. Now the thought of completing a test on numeracy and literacy shouldn't have worried me as much as it did, especially because being a tutor I face a lot of the material they were testing on a weekly basis! However I hadn’t sat either subjects in a test setting for over 4 years, so I was feeling particularly nervous about maths. TIP: Practice, practice and practise. of course you will have to have a decent knowledge of both subjects as it is, especially if you want to be a primary school teacher because you’ll most likely be teaching them both. However practising the test online, as much as you can will really help you get used to the format. I drove half an hour to my nearest test centre, managed to find parking somehow in a super busy street and went to sit my test. I made sure I took my time with both tests and thank goodness I passed! This was a week before my interview, which gave me a boost of confidence.

GYM + New Shoes

As you may know, it was one of my 2016 goals to get into the routine of going to the gym on a regular basis. I started off really well, despite my muscles freaking out the first week because they were SO unused to being worked out at all. I found it hard to walk for two days and that sort of worried me too! But after some reassurance from Tasha (blog here, she’s awesome!) I realised that  no pain no gain is correct and if I stick at it I’ll get the results I want. Unfortunately I did fall off for around 10 days, because of the whole above situation, but I am back at it now and honestly if I knew how much positive energy working out could bring, I wouldn’t have waited so long to get a membership. Of course I have days where I really cannot be bothered to go to the gym, but I can honestly say I’ve never regretted going to the gym once I’m donee with my workout. That has to count for something!

This month I also got some gorgeous new shoes, both from Kurt Geiger. The sales were great and I couldn’t resist picking up the black pair with the golden tip for work. Not just my current job, but also for my teaching training. I needed a pair of decent shoes and although it took a few painful shifts to break into these, they’re now super comfy and they make me feel really smart. That gold detailing is everything! The second pair of sparkly ones are just for special occasions, being 5’6.5 I always feel awkward in heels, especially when it comes to family gatherings! I couldn’t resist this pair, they’re absolutely beautiful and I’m so happy to own them. I purchased both these shoes from shoeaholics.com for a really reasonable price PLUS they accept student discount on top of sales prices! ^_^ They currently have have a 20% off sale, so if you’re looking for a decent pair of shoes that’ll last more than the typical high street ones check them out.

Work Award!

I just found out two days ago that I won tutor of the quarter! Which was a lovely surprise. The criteria for this quarter was demonstrating excellent customer service skills and I have to say it made my whole day finding out I was the chosen one. It’s always nice to be appreciated or recognised when you’ve been working hard right? They have also gifted me with a £50 voucher for wherever I like. Now I know my last post was about marking my half way point, but seeing as this is a reward from work I've decided to spend it on some makeup. I don't see it as breaking my ban because it's a gift/reward and there's nothing else I really want (clothing, perfume etc). So thanks to work I'll be purchasing my first Makeup Geek shadows and possibly a Zoeva palette too! I do feel a bit cheeky doing this, but like I said its a reward, so might as well let myself enjoy it right ;D

Journaling

When I was younger, I used to keep a journal and every time I felt any type of emotion, I would document it in there. It may sound odd if you haven’t tried it, but it was very therapeutic to me. Although I haven’t had a journal in years, I decided to pick up this gorgeous holographic one from paperchase and use it as a way to document everything on my mind as well as a tool for organisation. What mainly inspired this was my sudden interest in bullet-journaling, for a least a week I didn’t watch a single makeup related video, instead picking videos on this unique type of journaling. It is a pretty fantastic concept and one day I’d like to try it, but for now I’m happy to have a more traditional page per day type of diary. Not only has it helped my memory already, but it has been really nice to switch off all screens for 10-30 minutes before bed and reflect on the day. Writing out my to-do lists and also rationalising with myself about the amount of work I’ve done, or how certain events went in the day has helped me so much more than I could ever imagine. it’s amazing how simply putting pen to paper can have such a positive impact on my life. I’ve taken little square post-its and glued them onto each page corner (except the weekend ones). On these post it notes I have a short positive quote, phrase or line from the Quran and seeing a daily dose of good vibes has really gone a long way. For three days I was too exhausted to even open my journal at the end of the night and I found myself missing it so much!

My Blog

This month I have also realised that I cannot be as consistent as I was in 2015 on my blog. Last year it was my goal to post between 10-12 times a month and I pretty much did achieve that. It was also my goal to reply to all my comments regularly and again I was pretty good with that too. This year however I have a LOT going on, with final year stress, teaching application and trying to juggle a part time job, dissertation, huge assignments and family commitments I hardly have time for a social life (and time to just maintain my sanity!). So its not really surprising that I have made the decision to take a step back from 12 days and aim for 8 instead. I probably could post 12 times but then I would have no time to reply to comments and importantly visit YOUR blogs too, which isn’t okay with me. One of the best things about blogging is networking and sharing each other’s content, so for me to post regularly but then not have time for your blogs? Nope, can’t be having that. I may get a little behind on replying, but I will always reply and visit blogs back, always!

February aims:
  • UNI UNI UNI UNI UNI. I want and moreover NEED to put in tonnes of hours at uni in the upcoming month, it’s kind of make or break for my degree grade and I can’t afford to let it go to waste!
  • I also want to go to the gym so consistently that I notice a change in my body, not just internally y’know?

So how was your January? Have you been active in the gym or working out at home? Have you got a journaling system or did you ever have one? What would you like to do in February?

Thank-you for reading ♥

I was not prepared for how exhausting the first month of 2016 was going to be and it’s not been easy in any sense of the word, that’s for sure. It wasn’t all bad though, tiring doesn’t have to equate to negativity, it can be a sign of change and growth which are good, just not the norm!

Huge 2016 Beauty Wishlist | Halfway Through My 8 Month Ban!

Hello everyone, I hope you’re doing very well! Today marks 126 days since I started my ‘no buying makeup challenge’ and I am kind of in shock myself! To read about this challenge if you are new to my blog, click HERETo get this far makes me so proud and honestly I am not exaggerating when I say this challenge has been life changing for me. Saving money properly for the first time ever and then being able to pay for my car insurance independenly and even putting in a good amount of cash for a new sparkly laptop (more on that in the update post tomorrow) felt SO good! I don’t earn a tonne of money as I only work around 8-12 hours a week and running a car is pretty bank-balance draining as it is. However by stopping spontaneously buying makeup left, right and centre I have managed to save a decent amount AND really use up all the stuff I already own which is wondefully satisfying.

So as it has been exactly four months since I have not purchased any makeup, we are at the half way point now! My challenge ends on the 25th of May (my 21st birthday) and if I make it that far without buying makeup I’m treating myself to a Sephora haul yaaaaay! There are always makeup items that I really want to check out, partly because I’m always reading blogs and partly thanks to YouTube, so I thought it would be fun to write up a wishlist post. I managed to miss out a couple of things in my picture down below, but never mind I’ll mention everything that I can think of (with links too of course).

2016 makeup wishlist

By the way, these are all things I would LIKE to get in the next year but I probably won’t be adding it all to my stash. We’ll see how much makeup I use up too ^_^

Sephora
So starting off with Sephora, I really want to get my hands on Becca’s Champagne pop which I have a feeling will still be in-stock, as its making them so much money! The gorgeous highlighter created by Jacqueline Hill looks stunning on so many different skin tones and I would love to add a Becca highlight to my stash. Before I pick that up from Sephora though I will be checking Cult beauty who sometimes have it in stock.  I have wanted to get the Tarte Blush in Exposed it looks like a beautiful everyday shade and I cannot wait to try the amazonian clay formula! Sticking with Tarte I’m excited to pick up their CC Corrector which looks ideal for banishing the dark tones under my eyes. I love my Rimmel one (reviewed here) but to find more of a peachy tone would be awesome! Finally from Tarte, my heart is set on the Tartlet in Bloom eyeshadow palette, the colours look stunning and I have enjoyed the formula of Tarte shadows in the past so I am excited to pick that up! I totally forgot to add this brand, but I definitely want to pick up the Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation it looks right up my alley for more of a special event, as its light weight on the skin but provides a solid full coverage according to reviews. AND of course the Sephora beauty insider birthday gift this year is a mini Marc Jacobs makeup item, so I am super excited for that! Finally I definitely want to pick up some of Kat Von D's liquid lipsticks, I just haven't quite decided which shades yet.

Debenhams
I want some much from this department store, oh so much. Starting off with the MUFE Pro Bronze Fusion this was in SO many YouTuber’s 2015 beauty favourites and the unique texture and how beautifully natural it looks has landed it on this list! I also love the look of the MUFE Ultra HD concealers which come as both concealers and correctors - exciting stuff! I want to be able to swatch these in person first, so in the summer at some point I’ll be making a trip to Oxford street and figuring out my shades. I love how you can purchase Too Faced from Debenhams now, so on my list is the shadow insurance eye primer, hangover face primer and the love flush long-lasting blushers..I actually kind of want the palette which is available on the TooFaced website so if that’s available in the summer time I’ll be picking that up! The smaller sized pans and the wide range of colours are really appealing.

Selfridges/ Hourglass

Starting off with Charlotte Tilbury, I have wanted to pick up the Light Wonder foundation for the longest time and looking back, I regret purchasing the concealer over that base back in the summer! Light wonder ticks so many of my boxes, its light weight, dewy on the skin and the colour match is great from the swatch. Plus it contains 40ml over the standard 30 so I think it’s worth the money! I can’t wait to purchase the lip cheat in Iconic nude as it’s a shade I envision myself wearing on a daily basis. The one area of makeup that I’m pretty stingy with are lipsticks, I own hardly any that cost over £10 but this year I’d love to add one of the matte revolution lipsticks to my stash. Moving on to my all time favourite brand, NARS, I have quite a few things on my wishlist! Starting with the NARS All day luminous weightless foundation which has intrigued me for quite some time, but since I was (and still am) so obsessed with Sheer Glow I didn’t feel like picking it up in 2015. This year however I really want to try it out, along with the brand new NARS Velvet matte Skin Tint which isn’t even out yet, but it sounds DEVINE! I own the tinted moisturiser and I only really like using it during the summer time because it is SUPER dewy. This new tint has more coverage as is apparently between a dewy and matte finish, it sounds like absolute perfection! This year I will also hopefully be picking up the NARS Audacious Lipstick in Barbara, it is the shade that has always caught my eye and I have heard so many wonderful things about this line! The Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are a line I would like more of, the formula is so comfortable yet long-lasting on the lips, in particular I want Dolce Vita. Finally in this catergory, I only really want ONE thing from Hourglass and that is their Mood Exposure Blush, the lovely Jasmine (blog here) raves about it all the time and she has the perfect taste in blush tones, so I am sold!

U.K Drugstore + U.S Drugstore
As you can see the majority of things I want to try are higher end, as i’ll be saving money before purchasing I like to reward myself with higher-end items because the quality 9/10 times speak for itself. However there are a couple of things that I would like to try this year from boots, with the Soap&Glory Kick Ass powder at the top of my list. The yellow tone looks great for brightening the under-eyes and although i adore my Kat Von D shade, I only use that on special occasions because I’m so afraid of running out! I also want to try the Soap and Glory Once Heck Of A Blot primer since my skin has definitely become more normal/combo and I would like to have a bit of oil control around the nose (this is all so new to me!). I also really want to see if the Seventeen stay time concealer comes in my shade as I’ve heard so many good things about it. I will also be doing another beauty joint haul because I love me some U.S drugstore makeup. I need to stock up on a few wet’n’wild lipsticks and I also want to purchase one of the beautiful Milani rose blushers. The L.A Girl Endless lipliners are also on my wishlist because I have heard so many good things! And finally I’ll be stocking up on the L.A Girl Pro Concealer in Creamy Beige because it is soo good for under the eyes and really brightening too. It’s a staple in my cream highlight and contour routine!

OTHER

So I’m going to group the other things into my last category because I have written a LOT already! I really want to add a Morphe eyeshadow palette to my stash this year, of course i’ll be after the 35O but as it’s usually out of stock (i'm on the waitlist but knowing my luck it'll be in and out of stock before May). I don’t mind really, I just want to try one of their palettes as I’ve heard a lot of good things! I also want to pick up the Zoeva cocoa blends eyeshadow palette because it is STUNNING, the shade selection is right up my street and getting this over the 35O would kind of satisfy my cravings y’know? I will definitely be replacing at least one of my beauty blenders  this year and I’ve heard the black one is better than the others, so i’m going for that. I know I have a bunch of eyeshadows as it is, but I simply HAVE to get some Makeup Geek Shadows from beautybay for my Z palette, because there are so many I have wanted for the longest time. I also want to pick up some liquid lipsticks from the brands Stila, Dose of Colours, Girlactik, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Colourpop. Half of those are U.S brands so I’m planning on using a courier service again which’ll package a bunch of them together and calculate taxes and shipping there and then. I have a few YouTubers who I’m going to turn to when I go through this process and of course I will be blogging about it when the time comes! and FINALLY last but not least, I would love to get a Zoeva brush set this year, mainly one of the eye ones. I have lusted over these for the longest time, and I am seriously lacking in the decent eye brushes which is a shame since I have so many eyeshadow palettes.

THATS A LOOOONG WISHLIST RIGHT THERE! See if I had not been on this ban at least half of these products would be in my stash and my bank balance would hate me. Lets be honest, none of this is stuff I NEED so it would be awesome if I could try out some of these in 2016 but I don't aspire to get every single thing here! I think I'm over the whole 'blowing most of your wage on makeup and then not being able to buy much else' phase and I find it much more rewarding thinking about a purchase for a while, before splashing out.

I also want to have a one-in-one-out system with my bases after my challenge is over because I hate hoarding so many foundations/TMs when I only have one face AND they all have expiration date! This'll mean that there will be more base reviews on my blog because I really want to try some new stuff in May. YAAAY for making the halfway point, and heres to the remaining 4 *chinks glass filled with your favourite beverage* Also if you have been thinking of going on a makeup ban for a while, I hope this post gave you the inspiration to do so! (although I totally understand if it had the opposite effect D:)

Are any of these items on your wishlist?

Introducing Earth Kiss - 100% Natural Face Masks!

earth kiss face masks review pore refine, rejuvenate, pore cleanse, hydrating sheet mask review

Hello everybody! Todays post is an introduction to an exciting new brand called ‘Earth Kiss’. Their story is based around the impact that intensive farming methods are having on our planet. (You can read more about that right here). The key ingredient in all of their masks is the himalayan Shilajit which is energised with 85 plant micronutrients, which sounds amazing! Again you can read more about that in the last link if you’re interested.

Earth Kiss currently have 6 face masks in their line, which are all 100% natural - incredible right? That in my experience, is very rare to find, as a lot of skincare companies pack their products with tonnes of chemicals and fragrances. It is such a nice change to find a brand which actually cares about the earth and is committed to ensuring their ingredients are natural. When I received an email asking if I would like to review some of the facemasks, of course I jumped at the chance! BUT I wanted to ensure that they would be easily available for me and my readers... and to my absolute delight I was told that you can pick the brand up at : Holland and Barrett, Alara Health Stores and Natures Healthbox. YAAAY. (Also sidenote, how cute is the little bag! Thankyou Earth Kiss!)

With each of these masks you are instructed to first cleanse, then apply and leave it on for 15-20 minutes and then to rinse off! Now on to the reviews…

1. Earth Kiss White Thai Clay Rejuvenate Mud Mask* | 17g | £1.99
This mask (and all the clay masks) has enough in the packet for between 2-3 applications which is great for a family face mask session, or you could simply snip the corner, take what you need and snip more off the next time! Anyway, this was the first clay mask out of the whole bunch that I used and on this particular day I was feeling pretty blah and in need of some TLC. My skin was not looking so good and I was in the mood to sleep all day because I had had such a busy week. The clay on my skin felt super cooling and the colour is completely white when dried. It also dries very quickly and it kind of crumbles a little too. I left it on my skin for twenty minutes and as soon as I washed it off I noticed a difference straight away! My skin was brighter, cleaner (obviously) and literally glowing. Like I said I was having a really crummy day, but seeing such a difference in my skin was very uplifting and kind of pulled me out of my slump. Its the little things right! It is aimed at combo, normal and oily skin which I would agree with, any excess oil on my face was gone but my skin also felt pretty plump and not dehydrated at all.

Repurchase? Yes, I haven’t experienced many masks that leave my skin feeling so ‘rejuvenated’ (literally living up to its name) after one use!

2.  Earth Kiss Miracle Clay Facial Hydrate Bamboo Sheet Mask* | 27g | £1.99

So this mask was pretty exciting for me because I have heard of sheet masks for a while but I’ve not gotten around to trying any before this. Now according to youtube sheet masks are pretty thin, so I expected this one to be thin too. However as you can see from the weight of this mask it was pretty thick/heavy on the face! I think the reason for this is because it is natural bamboo sheet mask WITH organ clay and the clay itself most likely makes it heavier. The clay and the baobab work together to cleanse and nourish the skin. Now my experience with this mask unfortunately didn’t go quite as well as I would have liked, although I’m not entirely sure how much of that has to do with my mask. The day that I used this mask my eyes were already pretty sore and sensitive as I may have been crying a little bit (again we’ll address that in my January update soon, it’s been quite a month!). My skin again was feeling pretty bad and I thought this sheet mask would be a good pick me up. However when I put it on my skin, my eyes started watering a lot and they felt more sensitive than usual, to the point where I had to take it off after 5 minutes! I can’t say that my skin looked much different after such a small amount of time and unfortunately my first experience of a sheet mask wasn’t quite what I thought!

Repurchase? No, I can’t be sure if it was my sore eyes or the mask that made them react that way, but I won’t be repurchasing this particular one.

3. Earth Kiss Detox Pore Cleanse Mud Mask* | 17g | £1.99

The pore cleanse mask was an absolute pleasure to use, it is made from glacial mud and it was the most cooling from the four that I tried. Cooling and refreshing are two words that came to mind straight away, as the mask dried I felt the most pleasant cold sensation. I totally understand why this mask is labelled as ‘detoxing and destressing’ and it amazed me how quickly and effortlessly this mask too me to a more zen place. All I needed were two cucumber slices and a towel turban wrap and I would be a real life cartoon spa-aholic stereotype. The cooling properties in this mask are probably also attributed to the fact that it has spearmint in it and I wrote in my blogging notebook ‘this one feels incredibly cooling and like it is actually doing something!’ Once I had washed it away with warm water, my skin felt wonderfully refreshed and like it had been truly cleansed,  right down the smallest pore. Again like the rejuvenating mask, this clay mask really lived up to its name and I could easily see it being added to my weekly skincare routine, especially these days as I am going through a fair bit of final year stress!

Repurchase? YES! I still have two uses out of this packet, but I am definitely stocking up on this mask, its the perfect detoxing mask and I’ve never tried anything quite like it.

4. Earth Kiss Moroccan Clay Pore Refine Mud Mask* | 17g | £1.99

I wondered what would be the main difference between this and the pore cleanse mask and I found out as soon as I started applying it to my skin. It has the smallest gritty bits in it which are made out of crushed Apricot seed and Argan shell! How cool is that? I absolutely love how these masks are 100% natural and the idea of an exfoliating mask is so revolutionary to me. The clay in this mask is called Rhassoul and it is found in the Moroccan Atlas Mountains, which are naturally enriched over a million years with mineral goodstuff. I love the colour of this mask too, its a brown shade and dries down to a lighter colour, I know how you look in a mask isn’t really relevant but I deemed this mask to be very IG selfie worthy (if you were up to taking one of those that day). ANYWAYS back to the mask review, I left it on my skin for 20 minutes and then went to wash it wth warm water. The lovely thing about this mask having the tiny tiny apricot shell bits is that as I washed the mask away in circular motions I also gently buffed away dead skin cells and any drier patches. My nose area at the moment is behaving very bizarrely, it does produce oil throughout the day but in the last week or two the tip has also been dry meaning any makeup has looked highly unflattering because its been bunching up there and flaking off (ewww!). This mask, though gentle enough for the whole face was also effective enough to help me deal with that dry skin and it really didn’t feel stripping at all.

Repurchase? Again because I have never used a mask that is exfoliating before and more to the point such an effective yet gentle physical exfoliator I will definitely be stocking up on this soon.

All in all I have had a fantastic experience with this brand, mainly with the clay masks. I feel like they have been named accurately and you get what is written on the packet. You can tell that a LOT of effort has gone into thinking about each mask and the ingredients which have gone into it. They are so effective and the results on my skin are almost instant which honestly doesn’t happen often when I use face masks. The purity of the ingredients speak for themselves and again the uniqueness that each and every product in the Earth Kiss line is 100% natural is so brilliant! I think the price point of £1.99 is such good value, especially as one packet holds at least 2-3 uses.

Will you be checking out the Earth Kiss face masks?

LOTW | Colourpop Lippiestix in Lumiere

colourpop lippiestix in lumiere review and swatch

Hello everyone, it feels so SO good to be back writing another LOTW post because it has been around 5 weeks since my last! This week I decided to go for another one of my colour pop lippiestix, in the shade ‘lumiere’ which was Kathleen Light’s first collar with the amazing brand. I always feel so bittersweet when using my colour pop lip products because I am obsessed with the formula, the range of colours, the shape and the price…I just hate how hard they are to get here in the U.K! You can read about how I ordered mine last year here and I am yet to find a substantially cheaper method of getting them, although there are sites in the U.K which are selling them…for almost triple the U.S price, so it all depends on how desperate you want to get them - either way it costs an unfair amount - Colourpop sort it out please!

Price: $5.00 although it technically cost me £6.43

Formula and Lasting time: This is a gorgeous creamy matte lipstick, opaque in one swipe and so very comfortable to wear on the lips. It lasts 4-5 hours, even with eating and drinking and it fades evenly too. I don’t have any complaints!

Colour: It is described as a dusty mauve-ish pink, but on me it is most definitely more of a mauve with a splash of purple. The lip swatch on the colour pop site looks nothing like the actual colour of the lippiestix in my opinion, it doesn’t capture the mauve/purple at all. I feel like I did get what I expected though because I saw Kathleen’s videos and I really liked the colour on her - it just quite as lovely on me.

Favourite way to wear it: I like to wear it with any slightly deeper lipliner, just lightly traced to give my lips some definition and a base (please ignore the nude lipliner swatch!). In terms of the rest of my makeup, I liked wearing quite a simple look. A matte nude eye with winged liner and a dash of mascara.

Overall: The shade of lumiere kind of looked odd against my skintone, I think it's the purple tone and I found my teeth looked less white than they normally do too which wasn't wonderful!  Don't get me wrong, its not so bad that I can't use it, but I do like to mix it up with lipliners to alter the colour slightly and make it more flattering for me. My absolute favourite part of this lipstick though, aside from the formula is also the shape. It is quite long and narrow, with the edges being sharp enough to precisely apply the lipstick exactly where I want it.

Available from: www.colourpop.com!

Rating: 8/10

Repurchase? No I wouldn’t repurchase this particular shade, it doesn’t sit as well against my skin tone as I would like. I will definitely be purchasing more of the matte formula lippiestixs, they are so wonderful!

Top Three | Golden Highlighters

top three highlighters

Hello everyone!! Ahhh, my blogging break has been going on for FAR TOO LONG. I’ve almost forgotten how to blog, for real ._. This January has been probably the busiest Jan of my life so far and lets just say, I have a lot to talk about in my update post, which is coming your way in less than two weeks! Anyway I thought I would ease myself back into blogging with a top three post, this time being one of my favourite makeup items ever - golden highlighters! *jazz hands* I have a medium/olive skintone and I find golden highlights are by far the most flattering for me. They can also look beautiful on fair and deeper skintones too of course, but they're the category of highlight that I always gravitate towards first.

In this post I haven’t included cream or liquid highlighters, mainly because all three of these can be used wet and that is truly the key to getting a popping highlight. You don’t need 101 products to get the strobed look, of course a cream base is going to amplify your highlight, BUT you can totally apply any of these powders and then using a wet smaller brush, go in right on the tops of the cheekbones where you want a very bright look. If you want more info on strobing check out my post HERE.

kiko wet and dry shadow in 208

Starting with the budget option of this trio, the kiko shadow in 208 is well known in the beauty community for being a spot on dupe for many limited edition, high end highlighters! It is the lightest golden shade from the three and the one that would suit you lovely fairer skinned ladies the most. I personally prefer to use this one as more of a highlight topper, which is the step that takes a standard highlight application to another level. It looks incredible when applied with a damp fan brush and really gives a pop of highlight. I will say however that it does have a slight shimmer to it, which can appear a tad glittery on the skin if overdone, hence a little goes a long way!

NARS dual intensity blush in jubiliation

This is the most pricy of the trio (although technically each shade costs £15 right?) and I have to say I love the gold shade so much I would repurchase this in a heartbeat! The formula when used dry is buttery smooth and provides an instant noticeable glow. I absolutely adore how versatile it is, when used with a small fan brush and dry it is great for a day-to-day highlight. When used with a more dense brush, yet still dry it steps it up a little…and when used WET? Wow, you’ll be in a whole different league of gold! This is also the truest gold out of the three, it doesn’t have any silver or copper tones to it which I adore - NARS do not disappoint.

And finally the most popular highlighter of late, we have gilded honey. I first saw Desi Perkins use this and her skin tone is more tan than mine, but I LOVED how it lifted her features and made her glow! This highlighter is perfection for everyday because again it is build able, but a light dusting provides more of a subtle bronzy look, rather than a strong golden look. When its a special occasion, or I just want a stronger look I will of course dampen my brush slightly and get that strobed look, but for the most part i’m happy to use it dry.

I can never quite get highlight swatches right, so I took a couple and stuck them all together into one for you all! The one of the left is the Kiko 208 which has a silver undertone, then in the middle the NARS golden shade from the Jubilation duo - look at that stunning gold tone! And on the right is the beautiful golden/bronzey gilded honey which I do find tends to look more golden on my skin but again as I said it is pretty versatile!

So gilded honey is my most used out of the three, but if I had to pick ONE favourite golden one, then the NARS duo gets that award. Kiko 208 is a fantastic choice if you want to try out golden highlighters, without really going for a strong gold or bronze look - plus it is very budget friendly!

What are your favourite highlighters?

Clarins 'The Big Beauty Gift' in Debenhams

I love a good gift with purchase, in fact an offer like that is usually the reason why I’ll treat myself to more expensive products, because you get so much value for your money! Debenhams have a fantastic offer on at the moment, involving the classic Clarins brand. If you purchase two items, with one being a skincare item, you will receive three very very generous ‘sample’ sizes, AKA The Big Beauty Gift. I’m reluctant to call them samples because they’re large enough to get a proper good feel of the product - nothing mini about these at all! ^_^

The product I am most excited about is the Exfoliating Body Scrub For Smooth Skin* (100ml) as I was in need of a decent exfoliator which didn’t create a big old mess in the bath (i’m talking about you frank body!). It has bamboo powders which are essentially natural microbeads, for exfoliation and I love that the particles aren’t too rough or abrasive, yet they still work effectively. This product does have quite a strong smell, the words orange and mandarin come to mind, however once it has been washed off it disappears. I was so pleased with how soft this scrub made my skin feel and I am looking forwards to it becoming a regular part of my body care routine!

I was intrigued to receive the Body lift cellulite control* (100ml) because I have never really looked into products of this sort before. This cream has a gel formula and sinks into the skin very quickly. I didn’t notice a strong scent which I appreciated as body cream scents tend to stick around. According to the Clarin’s site this is a ‘revolutionary body contouring cream’ and when looking up reviews, the ones for this actual product (in the red bottle) seemed to be pretty positive. Most people have said that with continued use they actually noticed their skin looking more firm and taunt, so I’m excited to be putting this to the test. I will be sure to update you all in an empties post later on in the year.

The third free gift is the Pure melt cleansing gel* (50ml) which I am looking forwards to using because I tend to stick to more affordable cleansers, so its a real treat to try something from a more luxurious brand! It has a gel consistency when first squeezed out, it then turns into an oil when massaged into the skin and finally when put into contact with water it is more of a milky cleanser texture. The words pure melt to me, instantly signified that it is supposed to be more of a makeup remover, rather than a final cleanser. As you might know I am currently using the Una Brennan Vitamin C Cleansing Oil which I adore, but as soon as it is finished I am going to switch to this. Again it is such a treat to have a great sized cleanser from Clarins in my stash!

This is honestly one of the best gift with purchases I have seen in a long while but if you want to get your hands on these products you need to be quick! This offer ends on the 12th January 2016, so pick up two full sized products (with one being a skincare item) and take advantage! ^_^ below I’ve written a little wishlist as inspo if you need it ^_^

On my Clarins wishlist:
1. Clarins Extra Comfort Cleansing Cream
2. Clarins dehydrated oil
3. Clarins fix makeup spray
4.Clarins radiance plus golden glow booster

Have you tried any of these products? What is on your Clarins wishlist?
