Lush Easter Event & Haul!

Hello! Welcome to my annual Lush event post and I'm going to start by saying how much I adore these, they're such a highlight to my busy schedule and it's always a pleasure to meet up with my local lovely bloggers. This year they made it really cute and personal, giving us little pots of fresh flowers, with our blog name on a label and I was smitten! The pot is still in pride of place at my dressing table, and although the flowers have wilted slightly, it still looks so beautiful. This year Lush have brought back some old favourites (like a certain sparkly egg!), but they've also expanded their easter line too. I'm going to be sharing a bit of both and then what we got at the end. I will say though that if you're a blogger yourself and a fan of lush, make sure you get in contact with your local store! Most of them run events just for bloggers, its a free and fun way to find out more about their products, see them in action and meet like minded lush-lovin-ladies too 🤗

So starting with their display, they have a whole host of beautifully bright and fun new things. The larger items are actually their gift packs and they started off their event (after the circle of getting to know one another of course), with a quick tour of their mothers day range. I love how Lush always put together a range of prepacked gifts, thinking about price budgets for all too! Everyone deserves a lush treat now and again, but especially mums, who work tirelessly around their children.

For example the beautifully packaged flowery one called Rosie (£25.50) is an all rose themed gift set as the name suggests! You also get everything you need for a gorgeous pamper, from the tisty tosty bath bomb, rose jam shower gel, body conditioner, argan oil shampoo bath and the rose jam bubbleroon. Another one that caught my attention was the MUM gift set, because they have their new adorable giraffe all over it! I think I would buy this primarily for the wrapping paper, who doesn't want little Elsie in print haha. MUM costs £35.00 and as the packaging might give away, it is themed around holidays. So inside there is a coconut smelling scub and cream, the yummy mummy shower cream which has a rich and sweet smell, the coolest double sided bath bomb ever (more on this later!), a cute body butter in the shape of a bee (scrubee is the sweetest!) and a large bar of blackcurrant scented soap, that leaves the skin smelling great and feeling soft.

Talking of Scrubee (£6.95), heres a shot of one of us having a little demo of it. Now Scrubee is a body butter in the shape and design of a bee - super cute! However that is not it's only function, it also works amazingly well at exfoliating and moisturising the skin. It contains ground coconut shells aswell as ground almonds, which works so beautifully at leaving the skin feeling soft and supple. Scrubee contains shea butter, cocoa butter, honey, coconut oil and bergamot oil. It also smells divine! We were all big fans and I'm sad it's not going to be around after easter.

I have to say one of my favourite gifts is the Golden Egg, because it has the coolest packaging of all time! This is around £30 and you get 3 easter bath products, two new and one classic (the glittery golden one which I LOVE). You also get a chocolate scented soap too, so if you've had too much of the sugary stuff, getting scented soap is a much more sensible idea am I right?

Something they've brought back this year, with a slight difference is the bunch o carrots (£6.50), last year they were all orange and this year they're a mixture! Each colour has a different scent and the best thing is they're reusable, so you get a decent bang for your buck.

And here is a little bit of the purple carrot in action!

Which came first? Is pretty pricy, at just under £7 but it has the most gorgeous smell! To me it mainly smells of vanilla, but has a fresh scent too and I'm not surprised, since it contains grapefruit oil and Sicilian lemon oil.  If I picked this up, I'd definitely split into at least three pieces to get my moneys worth haha.

And
And of course one of their newest bath bombs, which has such a cute design is the chick'n'mix! It has a THREE pieces, so again its pretty good value for money. It contains bergamot oil and tonka absolute which makes it smell beautifully sweet. The chick's shell is in two pieces and in the middle there is an adorable little yellow chick inside! Which you can see below haha. Each piece of this has a different colour and I just think the idea is so innovative and diffferent, go lush team!

Above is a MUM bath bomb, which has a really cute little message once the bath bomb has dissolved. And on the left - JUST LOOK HOW CUTE THAT LIL CHICK BE!

I decided to pop a few photos together because honestly it's taken me a whole weekend to edit all these photos!!! Anyways the top photos are actually the SAME bath bomb! It's the ups-a-daisy bath bomb, which costs £3.50 and basically whatever way you turn it, dictates the colour the bath water turns. I thought that was pretty unique, the Lush team for this year really went all out! Smell wise its floral and sweet and more of a slow and relaxing fizer. Then bottom right we have the ADORABLE Elsie the giraffe (£6.95) and how could I THE BLUSHING GIRAFFE not fall in love with this cutie?! It's a lemony scent and reusable, I can't wait to try it out. And finally the slightly creepy thing in the bottom right hand corner is flopsy, which is basically a 'face wash jelly'. I wouldn't purchase it, but I can see why you might for your kids, it certainly makes bath time fun haha.

Now on to my own haul! Lets start with the things they gave us for free, thankyou Lush :) As you can see we have three samples of shower gels, the only one I've tried so far is the prince charming shower cream and OH MY GOODNESS I am smitten! Clearly I've been sleeping on the whole Lush shower cream range, or maybe it's just the most under rated thing they do - but you guys I am in LOVE. First of all its bright pink, secondly it leaves my skin super clean and soft and finally the SMELL!!! My skin smells divine for the rest of the day, honestly it's like bathing in expensive perfume, I am definitely going back to Lush and picking up a bottle. I think this is a valentines exclusive, so I doubt it'll be around for long :( If you love strong sweet smells, you need some of prince charming in your life.

I've not tried this yet, but how cool is the kiss me quick business wash?! They didn't actually tell us about this product on the day, so I had to do a quick google search and essentially SOAP PAPER. The perfect way to travel and stay clean, no spills, no mess and the perfect size to literally keep in your purse. I think its such a genius idea and I'm definitely taking mine on holiday with me soon - saving space and weight whilst travelling, I am all for it!

Something else I've never tried, but its a well loved product from the permanent lush range is the comforter bubble bar (£4.45), which you can break up into pieces and make it stretch! According to some, you can get 10 baths out of this, which is amazing and it smells like berries, whats not to love?

The Lush team kindly gave us all a free fresh face mask of our choice and I choose Ayesha (£7.25),  which contains honey, asparagus and kiwis. These masks have to be kept in the fridge as they're only made from fresh ingredients and I've used Ayesha three times so far - LOVE LOVE LOVE. It is seriously under-rated, because the amount of brightness and glow it gives to my skin - 😍.  It looks unappetising in the pot and on the face, but I don't mind in the slightest cause it does what it claims to do!

Of course I had to purchase an Elsie the giraffe! And I also picked up one bath bomb, since I still have a bit of a collection left from the x-mas time. This is dragons egg, which everyone only had good things to say about! It has a lemon sherbet and jasmine smell and apparently its a gorgeous one to watch fix up haha.

And the final two things I picked up were 1. my first ever shampoo bar and 2. (not pictured) the honey lip scrub. I don't normally buy lip scrubs, but they work a treat and I was feeling like treating myself after a stressful day at school! On to the shampoo bar, which is called honey I washed the kids (£6.25), the reason I picked this up was because I asked one of the lovely staff for some advice. You might know about my skin and scalp problem at the moment, with excessive dryness and I'm 90% sure its due to stress. I am soooo fed up of trying different dandruff shampoos and although I'm getting better at putting oil into my hair, I don't have the time to give myself oil massages on a regular basis. I explained this and the lovely lady recommended me this shampoo bar, which I have seen before but was never drawn to it. I have now used it 3 times and my scalp has never felt better! The dry flakiness has reduced noticeably and my hair feels so soft and clean too. I am so happy I took a chance with this, and a tiny bit goes a long way, because you only need to wet your hands and rub the bar slightly to get enough for the whole scalp so I'm expecting it to last a while! I'm not surprised it's working so well as the main ingredient is honey, which I adore and just a heads up - this'll be in my March favourites without a doubt!

PHEW! There we have it! The newbies and my haul, I hope you enjoyed this post. What are some of your Lush favourites?

Review | Anaqa Lashes & how to apply!

anaqa lashes nour lashes how to apply false eyelashes

Hello, todays blog post is going to be fairly short and sweet, but hopefully informative too!

I have become a little obsessed with falsies, as you will probably be aware of if you follow me on SC or IG! Recently I've been on the hunt to find the best of the best online and I'm pleased to tell you I've been really successful too 🙊, but thats for a separate post of its own! Today I'm going to be reviewing these gorgeous lashes from the IG company: AnaqaClothing and these particular ones are in the style 'Nour'*. There's also a 10% off discount code at the end of post, until stocks lasts!

anaqa lashes nour lashes how to apply false eyelashes

Anyway these lashes are the most dramatic one I have EVER owned! They're super full, thick and glamorous. I definitely had to trim them down to my eyeshape, but I have to do that for pretty much every pair of lashes anyway. Now before I get into the steps to easy lash application (and believe me, I struggled for AGES until I had finally cracked it, which took me practicing several times in a row haha), I'll review the style Nour. The band is thin enough to feel comfortable on the eyes, but a little thicker than other bands due to how thick the lashes are. These are not the kind of lashes which you should wear for a casual evening, they're definitely special occasion ones! And because of how thick they are, I do find them a little heavy on eyes after a few hours, so I'm only planning to wear them to an evening wedding or something of the sort. What I LOVE about them, is just how much wow, they add to any eye look! Even if you're not the best with eyeshadow application, popping on a pair of Nours will add all the glamour you need. My makeup went from a D to an A haha.

How to apply false lashes:

1. Measure!

Like I said it's likely that the lashes will be too long for your eye shape, so pop the lashes on and carefully see how much you should snip off. I have cut off way too much before and thats painful, cause you can't replace it! So start with a tiny bit and carry on measuring till it fits perfect.

2. Reshape

Take the ends and *thinks for a good few minute, about how to word this* push one side up, then the other side, over and over till its curled again. I hope that makes sense - if not I have a lil video on IG showing this whole process, so hopefully that'll help! Anyway this step will help to reshape the lash and when you put it on, it'll sit properly and just make it easier.

3. Mascara

A light coat of mascara is a necessity, because otherwise your natural lashes won't blend as easily into the falsies and that just looks odd!

4. GLUE!

This is the part where I was messing up BIG TIME! I was applying a crazy amount of glue onto the lash to begin with, then I was plonking it onto the eyelid and expecting all that glue to just work well and stick down. So first things first, find yourself a really good eyelash glue. I'm still in the process of doing this, right now I'm using Duo dark tone, but I'd like to find a glue that dries a little quicker. Next you should squeeze a little of the glue up to the end of the tube and then carefully run the lash band along the glue. What I was doing previously, was squeezing the tube up and continously applying more and more glue to the band adding probably 3X the amount of glue that was neccessary! A little goes a long way, so having a little glue availble in the first place makes matters easier. However it's a good idea to add a little more to both ends, to keep them extra secure. If you are using duo, it would be a good idea to wait almost a whole minute, till the glue is really tacky. This is the part that is also essential to get right, if the glue isn't tacky the lash will not stick and you can really mess up all the hard work of the eyeshadow - so wait it out!

4. Tweezers

Another thing that has helped tremendously is using a pair of tweezers, the ones I'd recommend most are from primark actually! Not the regular slanted kind, but the sharper ones which have more precision, ( I got two types of tweezers in a pack for a great price ^_^). I like to grip the middle of the lashes with the tweezers, hold a small mirror in my other hand at about a 45 degree angle, and carefully place the end of the lashes down, then the middle of the lashes with the tweezers. Sometimes I'll just get the middle on and then secure the ends, but with a heavier style like Nour, I wanted to make sure that I was placing it on precisely so I started with the outer corner.

5. Blending

Another important step is blending the natural and falsies together, and with this bit you have to be SUPER careful because it can be dangerous! Taking the same tweezers, I gently press together my lashes and the falsies and this ensures that the lash band is stuck as close as possible to my natural lashes. Sometimes in the past I've not done this and there's been an obvious gap inbetween, which has not only made the lashes look wonky, but it has also felt uncomfortable on my eyelid! So squeezing them together is the final step, et voila you are done.

It does take practice, but honestly once you get the hang of it, wearing falsies will up your makeup game 10000 levels! There are so many beautiful styles out there and they add a tonne to any makeup look. Whilst I won't ever be a daily lash wearer, I do love to pop them on now and again and I really hope this post was helpful for those of you who hate the process! It is so satisfying once you've got it haha. The code for the Anaqa lashes is 'Iqra10' so enjoy ^_^

What are your favourite lashes? And can you recommend me a lash glue? I'm on the hunt!

I.G Tut #1 | Glitter Wing Details

Hello hello, I hope you're all having a great Sunday. I know I only just introduced a brand new series yesterday, but brace yourselves for a new one, because I had another brain wave and I'm really excited to share it with you all (again). I'm not 100% sure what I will be calling this, so atm I've left it as 'I.G Tut', but watch this space haha. Now I have always enjoyed making little makeup clips for the gram, even when the video length was just 15 seconds! I would diligently sit and cut down, speed up, find music and create mini clips, which I personally loved doing and I got a great response from my followers. The chances of me ever starting my own YouTube channel are slim to none, but that doesn't mean I can't utilise one of my favourite platforms and take advantage of their newer 1 minute allowance for videos. At the same time I don't think the videos alone are very useful, so I wanted to combine my main platform (my blog),  with my second largest base I.G and write posts to go along with it. I hope my IG followers find this useful ^_^ I'll be linking products, reviews, talking about techniques and giving you mini reviews of each of the products too.

Video one - base

1. Moisturiser: Embryollise creme concentrate, is the absolute BEST. I very rarely apply anything else before I put on makeup, because it sinks into the skin so well and any foundation applied on top applies beautifully. Especially if its a heavier kind of base. I once tried to use mehron HD over a nivea moisturiser and it just took longer to blend and didn't sit as well. Embryollise does have mineral oil in it, so if your skin doesn't react well with that, perhaps avoid! Otherwise though it's well worth trying out, the best moisturiser for it's price without a doubt.

2. Corrector for under the eyes and around the mouth: I have created my own custom corrector and it was a bit of a spur of the moment thing, but it works SO well! I reviewed the L.A Girl correctors here, and in that post I said how the orange shade just does not work for me because its too strong of an orange. So I decided to try mixing the orange and yellow on the back of my hand and it worked so well! I've not cleaned out a little benefit eyecream pot, and mixed them together which'll save me a lot of time in the morning.

3. Foundation: NARS Sheer Glow in Stromboli (reviewed here) is one of the best bases EVER. I love this and because I've reviewed it already in detail, I won't into too much detail, but basically its the best medium coverage base ever, I adore it! I blended it in with a damp beauty blender, my favourite method of application, the sponge is worth the price I promise.

4. Concealer: I used the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer in SX07 for under the eyes and to highlight of course! I've reviewed this base in full here, and this post also explains the best way to use it and to set it too. I then used the same concealer in the shade SX08 to conceal that horrid spot on my forehead - it can conceal EVERYTHING. I blended it with the same damp beauty blender of course.

5. Set and lightly bake: The Kat Von D Shade and Light palette, which I reviewed here, is my all time favourite and you can see that by how much I have hit pan! 4 shades down, just two to go haha. The shades lyric and levitation mixed together work really well under the eyes. The brush I used is the Real Techniques Setting brush, its fantastic and I need one more in my collection for sure. I then used the orange shade to set over that pesky spot, and it really helped to hide the spot. You wouldn't want to apply the yellow powder over the spot, because it would highlight it and bring it to the surface. The to 'semi-bake' I used the Kat Von D Lock It Setting Powder, which is very lightweight and doesn't appear ashy on the skin. I've not had a chance to talk about this on the blog yet, but I have to say I really like it. For the price you get a lot of product and it does look better than the Coty powder. I use the primark mini sponge for the semi-baking, it is BRILLIANT! Just make sure it's well and truly damp first.

Video two: The Rest Of The Base

1. Brows: I've been using the Colourpop brow pencil in bangin brunette, which is very very similar to the ABH Brow Wiz! I usually wear my pomade, but when I'm in a rush this pencil does an excellent job at drawing out a shape. Plus the spoolie on the other end is perfect for blending the product through - you can't go wrong for the $5 price tag. The next step is to use the essence make me brow in 3 - a total benefit dupe for less than £3! I love this for toning the brows down a little bit, but also for setting them in place and the fibres create a more realistic look too. A real must have. Also for those asking, I always order my essence products online because theres a lot more variety vs. my local store (which also isn't that local by the way).

2. Bronzer: Topshop mohawk, is my all time favourite affordable bronzer', it is the perfect colour for my skintone! I've reviewed it more here. I love using the Real Techniques multi task brush, it is a great size, and ever so slightly tapered so you can apply it at an angle if you want some definition. I use the multi task brush almost every single day, its a must have in my collection, but as far as I remember its only available as part of their sets - they need to sell some of their brushes individually I'd be picking up a lot more!

3. Contour: ABH Refil Shade in Ash Brown, which I bought on sale from beautybay for an unbelievable price of less than a fiver! Although its not one of their more popular shades, I LOVE it so much. It's not quite as grey as a typical contour shade, but it is deep enough to really add definition. For the cheeks I used the Real Techniques Contour Brush and for the nose I used the Real Techniques Flat Foundation Brush, which was actually a first but it works really well! Both of these brushes are available in this kit, which is also on sale atm.

4. Blush: NARS Torrid is one of my favourites, I have reviewed it here. The brush I used is actually an ebay Jessup one. I love it because the bristles aren't very dense and it blends products out in a more natural way - which is useful for highly pigmented products! I can't seem to find the exact brush kit I purchased, but a quick ebay search shows they've improved their kits a lot and I think its the same blush brush in this kit.

5. Highlighter: Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in Sundipped, a full review for this is coming up in the next week or two - I love it! The shades are beautifully pigmented and a little stronger than the previous glow kits (although not as intense as the newest one, as far as I can tell!). The brush I used is the Morphe M501, which is AMAZING! Its a shame they've increased the price, but I have to say it's still worth it and double, because it applies highlighter better than any other I own.

6. Facial Spritz: Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe Herbs And Rosewater, reviewed here. BEST EVER. Can't speak highly enough!

Video Three: Eyes and Lips

1. Crease: MUG Dessert Sands is a gorgeous mustard shade which I LOVE for the crease! As my favourite colours to wear on the eyes are deep reds and browns, this shade of yellow blends so beautifully with them and it is one of my all time favourites. I used the Morphe M504 brush, which is fantastic for blending in any crease shade quickly and efficiently, a real go-to.

2. Lid: ABH Blazing was then blended all UNDER the crease area, mainly on the outer part of the eyelid. I adore the shade and I'm not sure why it's not more popular to be honest! The brush I used was the Morphe M507, again another MUST have brush in my collection! It is perfect for smaller detail work and its a very unique brush in my collection, I love it for the crease and inner corner too. I then blended out the crease again with the same M504, to make it all look seamless - blending is KEY for any eyeshadow look!

3. Main Lid: ABH Henna, all over the lid with a double ended ecotools brush (reviewed here!). Tbh I wish I had applied this with my finger instead as the pigmentation would have been stronger.

4. Lower Lash Line: Using the Zoeva 238 Luxe Precise Shader reviewed here, I ran Blazing under the lower lash line.

5. Inner Corner: Taking that same brush, I popped some of MUG's Vanilla bean reviewed herein the inner corner and slightly further into the lid. This reduced the pigmentation and opened the eyes up a little too.

6. Back to the crease: Using the other end of the ecotools brush (the shader side), I roughly applied some of MUG's Wild West, which is a beautiful deep dusty purple which I LOVE for adding some depth to any look. I then blended it out with the same M504.

7. Lower Lash Line again: Going back in with MUG's Dessert Sands, I blended it all over the lower lashline, because it looks gorgeous with the red hue of blazing, they're a match made in heaven😍. I then went over the lower lashline again with Wild West, because I felt like it needed some definition and depth!

8. Winged Liner: The Balm's Schwing Liner is a gorgeous, very pigmented, long lasting eyeliner which I have really enjoyed. I don't like the fact that the tip is fraying now, but hopefully with a pair of scissors it'll be as good as new!

9. Glitter! Horaaaaay, the glitz part. Using the paintglow glitter me up fix gel, I applied a little on the edge of the Zoeva Winged Liner Brush, then I carefully used the brush to apply a line of it just above the wing I had created. I could have been a little more precise with this part, but once the lashes were applied it didn't look too intense! The using a double ended primark brush, I dipped my brush into the certifeye rose gold glitter and carefully patted the glitter over where I had just placed the gel.

10. Lashes: I've not included these in my video, because I plan to write a post about it and create another mini video for IG. But the lashes I'm using are from Anaqa lashes (IG here) in the style Nour. They're VERY dramatic but really made the look appear glamorous. Also the lovely owner Doua, kindly gave my readers a discount code, so use 'Iqra10' for 10% off your order!

11. Lips: And the final step 😅, I used the Rimmel liner in tiramisu, which is a firm favourite. It's excellent for natural lip shades, as well as anything orange toned because it does lean on that side of the colour spectrum. I also really like the formula of these pencils. I then used the Huda Beauty liquid lipstick in trendsetter - another favourite of mine! Whilst it appears more orange, once it's dried down it looks deeper and very sophisticated.

And that is finally the end haha! I hope you guys found this beneficial, I really enjoyed creating it for you, even though it took ages haha. Thanks for all the good feedback I've already had 😄

Single Shadow Series #1 - Brow Bone & Nude Shades

makeup geek mirage, makeup geek rapunzel, makeup geek vanilla bean, makeup geek beaches and cream anastasia beverly hills cream eyeshadow review and swatch

I AM SO EXCITED TO FINALLY BE PUBLISHING THE FIRST POST OF MY NEW SERIES! This is one I have called the 'single shadows series', which is pretty self explanatory haha. I have a great many single shadows in my collection and I've wanted to review them all as efficiently as possible. So I devised a thorough system of firstly sorting my shades into colour families, and then selecting four shades for my quad, using them consistently for a couple of days and writing up a short review in my notes section. It's obviously going to take some months to get through them all! But its the only way I can really test out each shade properly and write a detailed review for my readers, so I truly hope they're helpful.

My collection mainly consists of Makeup geek which you can purchase from beautybay. Unfortunately they have increased their prices, which is a shame, but nonetheless the quality is amongst the best on the market. A regular MUG shadow costs £6 and a foiled shadow costs £9.25. I also have a couple of Anastasia Beverly Hills shadows, which are £10 each, BUT they have a great permanent promotion where when you purchase 8 shades, you only pay £50 AND you get a free sturdy plastic palette too! So if you buy 8 in total the price goes down to £6.25, which is pretty much the same price as MUG considering you get that free palette too ^_^

makeup geek mirage, makeup geek rapunzel, makeup geek vanilla bean, makeup geek beaches and cream anastasia beverly hills cream eyeshadow review and swatch

Here are the five shades from the brow bone and nude shades in my collection. I think these kinds of shades are essential, although you definitely don't need all of them. For me a good matte shade and a good satin one are the two I need for sure. With the swatches, I did one swipe with no primer and one swatch on top of a nude coloured eyeshadow primer. The reason being is I NEVER wear shadow without any sort of base. 9/10 I will put concealer on and then set it with a translucent powder firs, so its not really fait to show shadows without a base too.  Okay onto the swatches and of course the reviews!

MUG Rapunzel | £6

The most intense brow bone shade of the lot, Rapunzel is a satin silver/golden shade which I only really use when I want my brow bone to stand out. So think weddings, evenings out, parties etc. I also use this as an inner corner highlight because its great for brightening up that area. The formula of this shadow is beautiful, no fall out whatsoever and the pigmentation is decent too. However I don’t think its a super unique shade and I’m not sure I’d be desperate to repurchase it. It does the job and I think if you’re looking for a strong satin brow bone shade, Rapunzel is for you! But I just really really like mirage and I don't use this as much as I perhaps could.

Repurchase: Probably not no.    Rating: 4/5

MUG Mirage | £6

THE MOST PERFECT BROW BONE HIGHLIGHT EVER. This is the one shade that I will continue to repurchase over and over again, because I adore it! It is a beautiful sheen finish and the colour is an off white with a tinge of gold, which makes it wonderful for olive skin tones, because its not too stark and doesn't look ashy at all. I only need one sweep for the whole brow bone area and I love how its effective enough to lift the eye and whole face, but equally its not over the top at all. Mirage is not too strong but equally the pigmentation is really good. Again it works as a stunning inner corner highlight, I sometimes build it up a little if I am using it for the evening, but otherwise it just works a treat with minimal effort.  Seriously mirage is a game changer when it comes to brow bone highlighters and I really do recommend this shade above all others.

Repurchase: 1000000%.   Rating: 5/5

A slightly off white shade with faint shimmers in it, vanilla bean is a decent ‘clean up’ sort of brow bone shade, when I have used quite strong colours and its all looking a little bit much, I pop a little bit of this along the brow bone. I find vanilla bean to be pigmented, however I don’t think its the most versatile shade. I wouldn’t apply it all over the lid, as I much prefer a slightly warmer shade for my olive skin tone. Whilst the formula isn’t bad, with little to no fall out, to be honest with you its a bit of a meh shade and I COULD live without it. Although I can use Vanilla Bean, (and of course and I am using it now and again) it’s definitely replaceable and I do reach for mirage more often.

Repurchase: No.      Rating: 3.5/5

ABH Cream | £6.25 (when you buy 8!)

The name for this shade is spot on, because this colour is exactly that, a cream shade which has the most beautifully buttery matte texture. I tap of the brush and you have enough for both brow bones, so a little stretches far.  This shade is one that I will often use as an all over the lid shade, when I don’t have the time for anything more, or for when I want a simple/bright and low-key look. It also lasts well all day long, which makes me so happy because I feel like I am definitely getting my moneys worth!  Cream is a shade that really cleans up any eyeshadow look and its not TOO bright if you have an olive skintone, so it won’t look too stark against your skin. Definitely one of the most versatile shades in my collection, and although my first impressions of it were kinda meh due to it being a lil pink in tone, I have used it so much! And I know it's gonna be a shade I'll keep in my collection for a long time.

Repurchase: Yes, its become a total staple!  Rating: 5/5

A muted peach colour, which would definitely work as a transition shade for fairer skin tones. Beaches and Cream is beautiful and it’s often a great all over the lid shade for me, when I have less time to get ready. It sits nicely on the lid and doesn’t crease or fade throughout the day when I’ve used a concealer/base beforehand (which is everytime!).  The reason why I included it in this colour family, is because I had used this as a brow bone matte highlight before and it also works well. So if you have a medium skin tone this’ll be a good all over the lid base shade, or a lowkey brow bone shade. I really like the formula of this shade, one swipe is all you need for decent pigmentation and it blends really well.

Repurchase: Probably yes.    Rating: 5/5

Do you own any of these shades? Which are your favourite?

Teacher Training | 6 Months In!

Hello hello, I hope you're all doing well. Since it's been a whole 6 months since I began my teacher training journey, I thought it was appropriate to write a little update post for you all. Although I rarely get comments under these posts, the amount of feedback I get from you guys on social media makes me so happy! I'm glad these can be helpful in someway, especially if you are considering teacher training yourself. I have now also added a link in my sidebar, which has all my TT related posts if you're curious. OH! And, some exciting news, I am going to be featured on the UCAS teacher training blog!! It's safe to say I'm just a LIL bit chuffed about this 😝.

Anyway, I cannot believe that I am just short four months away from obtaining my PGCE. In some ways this course has been a bit of a blur, but the hard work that has been required has pushed me beyond belief.

Three things I've found challenging...

1. The lack of sleep
You never appreciate the amount of sleep and flexible hours you get whilst being a Uni student, until you become a trainee teacher. Or enlist on any kind of route which involves working a full time job AND studying too. So many times I've had to get by on 3-5 hours of sleep and it is absolutely exhausting! Somehow though the time spent teaching kinda makes up for it, and although I have mini break downs every 3 weeks or so, I'm still going haha. I think eventually I will get the balance right, and I'll figure out how to get 7 hours of sleep on a regular basis, but till then I'll be snacking and sipping caffeine every few hours!

2. The endless to-do list
I will NEVER truly be done with my to-do list. If there isn't lesson planning/evaluations to be working on, then theres marking to catch up on, there are also resources to prepare and pupil progress to look over, OH and lets not forget all the objectives set by the teacher training school to meet on time. Plus since it is a PGCE year, there are also two heavy assignments (although admittedly these are quite a minor part of the course in the grand scheme of things). I'm also attempting to maintain my friendships lol, as well as my blog. You do have to accept that this will be the case, perhaps for the whole career (this remains to be seen obviously!) but at least for the TT and NQT year.

3. Behaviour management
Working with children always requires a good balance of caring, humour, patience and fairness. However the behaviour management side of things is tough, especially when you're a trainee in year 6! It has been a steep learning curve thats for sure, but since completing my cross phase in year 1 I have approached it differently now. There is definitely a fine line between being too soft and being overly strict and I am still trying to find that balance.

                         Three things I've learnt...

1. What YOU think teachers do, only scratches the surface!
After working in two different schools, in two different key stages and in two totally opposite year groups (I went from year 6 to year 1!), I have experienced a lot in a pretty short space of time. The main thing I continue to be shocked by, is just how much hard work teachers put into the job. It really irks me when I hear 'oh but teachers, they get sooooooo many holidays! Can't be that hard really!' and I challenge anyone with this attitude to spend one week in a school, because they will soon be changing their tune! Despite being in education pretty much my whole life, I still had no idea about the extent of hard work teachers put in, the amount of extra hours and often a large proportion of their weekends too. The assessment and data handling is a whole new ball game, which I don't know too much about right now, but it's mind blowing how many hours have to be spent looking at levels for each child, working out X,Y and Z, submitting this and attending that. I feel like the role of one teacher, really contains the workload of about three average human beings and IT IS REAL TOUGH. Whilst working a regular 9-5 might be challenging, try an 8-6/7, with work to do at home too - now that is really hard.

2. It is also the most rewarding job in the world, despite the lack of pay:hard work
It's a cheesy thing to say, but I can't lie teaching really is such a rewarding job. Working with children and seeing them develop and go from strength to strength, teaching them how to write direct speech and seeing them remember the steps properly in their assessment, encouraging them to have a go and seeing the pride on their faces when they do well. It's all just a really great feeling and to be frank, this is the MAIN reason why most teachers stay in a job that is hugely underpaid for the amount of hours and hard work that goes into it. Building bonds and being a big part of a whole class of children's lives is what makes us get out of bed in the morning and face a long and exhausting day. I have met some incredible teachers and teaching assistants in my short 6 months and I am so inspired by them all. Their enthusiasm, knowledge, drive, determination and supportive natures really play a big part in wanting to continue too. Having a team of truly respectful caring people around helps more than I can express, it really does. After working in this environment, I am going to be very picky when it comes to finding a job, because I know that without that the job would be a whole lot harder.

3. That I am capable of more than I give myself credit for
Probably the most important one of the lot, is that I have really seen how much I am capable of and I'm so proud of myself. Allow me a moment to blow my own trumpet here, it doesn't happen too often! But in the last 6 months I have gone from being a slightly unsure, meek, hopeful young adult, to becoming a woman who knows she can do well and more importantly knows she WILL do well. The feedback from mentors has been amazing and although the course is gruelling, with lots of observations on a regular basis, its a fantastic way of reflecting on strengths and weaknesses and continuously working at them. I think that is why I have done relatively well when it comes to meeting the teacher standards, because I have been given constructive criticism on a weekly basis and I've made changes which have had results. Don't get me wrong, I am far from perfect, but for a trainee teacher - I can't say I'm doing too badly, despite said breakdowns every now and again! One of the most heartwarming experiences for me, was having a parent come into the classroom on my last day of year one and thankme for all the hard work I had done there. She said her son was much too shy to say it himself, but he would talk about me a lot at home and how kind and lovely I was and that he would miss me when I left. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a little bit emotional there! Seeing that I have and am making a real difference in the classroom is the most fulfilling thing and I can finally at this point say, that a large part of that is due to my hard work! Cos I have NEVER worked this hard in my whole life haha.

Three tips for trainee teachers to be...

1. Become as organised as you possibly can
If you don't have a diary, GET one!Life moves as fast as a flash when you're a trainee and if you don't keep track of your time and the dates it is very easy to get left behind. I have an academic diary which is separate to my journal and I use it every single day! If you didn't start organising before, you're going to have to now. I'm still working on it to be fair and I should definitely be more productive at the weekends, but I know that if I still had the amount of organisation I did in second year, I'd have quit by now.

2. Prepare the highs and the lows
And boy oh boy are there lows to match the highs! Whilst so much of this year has been about self-development and reaching goals, a lot of it has also been filled with tears, stress, sleepless nights. I have never been so exhausted and stressed out, to the point where my skin is reacting really badly to it. My arms and legs have these horrible dry skin bumps and my scalp is the worst its ever been. As much as I try to make time for myself, its very very hard too unless it is a half term. There are never enough hours in the day and on top of the physical signs of stress, it can take a real tole on my emotional and mental wellbeing too. Some things that really really help me are praying and going back to that peaceful spiritual place, removing myself from it all for a few minutes at least. Also I've not been regular by any means, but when I have made the time to go to the gym (again mainly in the half term!), I have really appreciated the after effects. Maintaining my water intake and upping my fruits and 'good food', to sort of balance the amount of junk food I get through helps and of course taking time out to catch up with family and friends is really key. Even if they aren't going through what you are, its so nice to be able to put those to-do lists and deadlines to the side for a few hours and just spend quality time with those you love. I think a vital part of succeeding in the course, is accepting that the work life balance WILL be off for the foreseeable future. Of course focusing on the positives and the long term goals always help and to be honest, time flies by. I still remember the first day I walked into the classroom I teach in, yet now I know the kids like the back of my hand all within 6 months. It is both exicitng and scary!

3. Set up a teaching journal
and fill it with the things you learn, that you really want to carry forward in your own classroom one day! Some of mine is based simply on observations of different classrooms, but most of it has tips and little tricks teachers have shared with me, or things I have read about along the way. At the moment its in a scruffy old book, filled with my messy handwriting but I'm hoping that at some point this summer I'll be copying it out into a new book haha.

I hope you enjoyed reading this slightly TOO honest post today 😅

Sidenote for the SC fam, these are the lashes I posted yesterday! They have a slightly thicker band and are a little heavy, because I'm still getting used to wearing lashes full stop haha. But they're stunning, I wasn't too happy when they arrived, cause they looked super spiky. But when I actually put them on they looked beautiful and SOOO much more expensive than the 56p price tag! (YES YOU GET THREE PAIRS!).

Review | Mehron Celebre HD Pro Cream Foundation in Medium-dark, Euroasia fair, medium 1, light olive and light 3

mehron celebre HD pro cream foundation in light 3, light olive, medium 1, euroasia fair, medium deep 1 review and swatch

Hello everyone! I am finally sitting down to write a review for the Mehron HD foundation, which has been around for quite some time, but shot to fame after Hrush used it on Kylie Jenner. This is the second cream foundation I have tried and it didn't take long for me to understand why one of my favourite bloggers, Oni (check out blog here) loves it so much. I had seen many beautiful photos of her makeup using this base and although I hadn't jumped at the chance to buy it, due to having enough bases, I decided to pick up the shade Euroasia Fair on the whim, to see if I would get on with it. Once I did, I realised I had to pick up a few more shades, for when I do the makeup of my family, so I now own 5 shades in total. One of the things that put me off a little from purchasing it beforehand was the difficulty with picking shades online. Whilst there are a few swatches, there aren't many, so I do hope this post will be helpful for those who are searching for theirs. I'm going to start with the review itself, then share the swatches and finally ending with how I ended up with four new shades instead of the typical two (and yes this involves a deal haha).

So starting with the packaging, this really is as basic as as it could get. Plastic container with a clear plastic lid. The shade name is written on the back and unfortunately after you've had it for a few months, it does seem to fade, so I plan to stick on some labels during some weekend I actually have the time for little jobs like that! One pot contains 25g of product, which according to google is equivalent to 25ml?? Whether thats true or not, I know you get a LOT of product in here.

Formula, Application and Finish
It is obviously a cream foundation, so its beautifully silky but I find that it can need some warming up beforehand. Personally I don't remove it from the packaging first with a spatula, I use my ring finger and literally warm up the surface for a few seconds before placing it directly on my face. If I am mixing shades I will usually mix two on the back of my hand and then apply it to my face - this works best. I have tried mixing them together by putting the lighter shade on my face first, then the darker shade on my face, proceeding to blend it all in with a brush or a sponge, but it doesn't quite photograph as flawlessly.

I tend to apply this with a damp beauty blender, however I have tried it with a buffing brush and a flat topped brush and it looks great. The formula is so blendable that it would work either way, if you want a fuller coverage buff it in with a brush and then lightly go over with a damp sponge. The finish of this foundation is a demi-matte in my opinion - AKA 'natural'. You can also manipulate the coverage, if you want a lighter coverage add less, if you want to build it up to medium/full apply another layer. I find that I can't apply more than two layers (after this it starts looking a little cakey), but as long as you've really blended it into the skin - which is easy enough to do, due to the silky creaminess, it looks great!

In terms of longevity, if I haven't applied a primer underneath (or SPF) and if I haven't set it with powder all over and/or a setting spray the wear time I get is about 7 hours. Within around 4 hours it'll start to get a little shiny in my T-Zone. So because of this, I do gently set it in place with a loose powder - usually my NARS Soft Velvet Loose Powder in Beach, using that famous buffing technique. This keeps shine at bay. I then spritz my skin with the MUFE Setting Spray or the Pixi Makeup setting mist. I find that both of these do a good job in prolonging the wear.

Now the main reason I love this foundation for special occasions and evenings out is the fact that it really is a HD base. Which means it photographs beautifully with flash! So the reason I decided to purchase a few more shades was because I knew it would be the perfect for those times I am doing other's makeup and they'll be having their photographs taken. There is nothing as annoying as flashback when it comes to makeup and photography, so to get a foundation for less than a tenner, which doesn't flashback and looks GORGEOUS I cannot complain!

Oh and I should add here that as the packaging is very basic, and with most cream foundations its not the most sanitary, I do spritz this with surgical spirit at the moment. However I am going to be purchasing some isopropyl alcohol instead and using that to clean the surface, which is really important.

I purchased my first shade from a U.S site, but I've noticed that this one is a little stiffer than my newer four and for some reason the text which says HD Celebre pro is brighter yellow too. I'm not sure if this is because it was part of an older batch 🤔 Anyway I decided to pick up some more shades from a reliable seller on ebay, called stagedoor makeup, the link is here. They have a great deal on where you can pick up 4 shades for the price of £29.99 or one shade for £8.50 each. So you save a bit of money and I thought I might as well get a couple of shades as I wasn't sure which would be the best - online makeup shopping is tough! At the moment a couple of their shades are out of stock, but it's worth checking out what they have anyways and maybe coming back in a week or two to see if they have restocked them.

Now on to the shades themselves, as you can see I have swatched them with both natural lighting and flash. My mum kindly lent me her arm because the shades show up much clearer on her (plus she isn't having horrible skin issues like myself 😞).

Light 3 - I picked this up purely as a lightening shade and it works well for that. It is ever so slightly on the yellow side and is VERY light! I couldn't ever wear this alone but I'm glad I have it as it's been useful so far and if I ever do my auntie's makeup, she is a lot fairer than me so this'll be useful then.

Light Olive - A gorgeous yellow toned shade, I sometimes use this to highlight my face (I do still mix some of euroasia fair though!). I haven't seen this online at all, so I'm guessing this is part of their new shade range, its a great one if you have an olive skintone ofc and you're looking for a lighter shade.

Medium 3 - Regret picking this shade up! You can probably see its more on the pink side, and for that reason I just don't use it at all. Hopefully one day I can put it to use when doing someone's makeup, I don't even know. But yah if you're olive skintoned I'd recommend avoiding this.

Euroasia Fair - my closest match. It's very close to NARS Stromboli and although when I first applied it I thought it looked a little on the dark side, once I had applied my Kevyn Aucoin SSE, my face was all balanced out. Plus you can see that with flash they all lighten a little, so it's best to go for a shade thats a smidgen darker anyways. When I use this shade alone and then take flash photos, it looks the BEST! So if you're around my skintone (check my about me for shade references) definitely go for this shade. They have two other 'euroasia shades' but neither seemed close to my skintone.

Medium Dark 1 - This is the only darker shade I picked up and I really like it for mixing when I'm doing mum's makeup. I also like to use this as a bronzer shade too, it blends effortlessly and adds the perfect amount of definition ^_^ I'd recommend this is you need a darker colour to mix in with and I think its a good shade to have if you're looking for a bit of a mix!

Round Up:

Rating: 9/10

Pros: A very affordable HD foundation which is fantastic to have if you're a beginner MUA on a budget and need a base that will work well under harsh lights. It applies easily (and even if it needs warming up, still goes on quite well). Both a brush and a damp sponge will work with the application and it blends into the skin super easily. There are a wide range of shades available and all skintones are covered. The coverage is very manipulatable too which makes it super versatile. Plus you can get it on sale through stagedoor makeup and save yourself a few pennies! The fact that you can get four different shades for the price of a normal highend foundation, is pretty awesome, so if you ARE having trouble sourcing out your shade then definitely take advantage of that deal here.

Cons: This base does need some setting, my skin is normal/oily and I find that it looks quite shiny after a few hours if I don't take the time to do that. Shade matching can be difficult and as its only really available online, if you're not wanting to purchase a few shades you might have a bit of a challenge.

Overall: This is my go-to special occasion base now! I don't wear it for everyday purposes as I prefer something lighter in coverage, or just concealer since my skin is doing quite well right now. I think this is a must have base for those of you who are looking for a good foundation to wear now and again, its super affordable and photographs like a dream.

Repurchase: YES!

Have you tried the Mehron HD foundation?

P.S For my SC and IG followers, I got over 75 screenshots for those hijabs I shared yesterday which is a RECORD for me! HERE IS THE LINK, they cost £28.00 for 10 hijabs and to order the colours, you leave the colour number in the note to seller box (if you scroll down, you can see the colours clearly and each hijab is numbered). I've only had them for a day so can't really comment on the quality, but first impressions are that they're super soft and comfy and they aren't over-priced at all!
