Fenty Beauty Olive Skintone Review + Sponge and Highligher (Mean Money and Hustla Baby)

Fenty beauty foundation review olive skintone 260 stromboli nars, mean money highlighter, hustla baby highlighter, sponge review

Hello lovely people! You may already be aware that I have ventured into the ominous and slightly daunting world of YouTube....and I am planning on creating corresponding blog posts for each video where possible. I won't link my first video, (horrendous angle. sound quality, camera settings and SO nervous haha). But in short, I have been wanting to extend my blog for a while now and I've always been so on and off about the idea. Putting yourself out there, is not easy at all. The lovely thing about blogging is you can remain as annonymous as you please, however with Youtube you're liteally on the platform speaking and sharing. I now feel like I'm confident enough to handle any rude/hateful comments and I also feel like my blogging obsession has slowly died down...not that I'll ever stop completely, but I did need something different for my creative outlet, alongside my blog if you will. Some posts I've always felt are way easier to talk through, things like favourites and hauls. I have no intention of making money from the platform, I'm hardly making anything from my blog four years later - the sole purpose for starting my channel is to carry on with my passion, in a slightly different way.

I thought I'd start with the Fenty beauty review and I'll add some more of my thoughts to this, in case you've already watched it (and if you have, thankyou).

Here is the video ^
And it was filmed after about a week's worth of testing out the products and I've now had a couple more to test the products out. My opinion on the foundation hasn't changed at all - I'm currently using the shade 260, but I know when I next repurchase I'll go for the shade 240 since it's more warmer in tone.

As for the sponge, I've realised that although it's good, I definitely wouldn't repurchase it, since my beautyblender still comes out on top. I think, the fact that its soooo sort just doesn't quite have the same impact as the original BB...am I surprised? No not at all. And it's certainly not a bad product, I'll continue to use it, but when it comes to the end of it's usability, I won't be repurchasing.

My opinions on the highlighter haven't changed either - 10/10!

As for her newest collection, the fenty holiday line, I watched Desi's video on it this morning and whilst she did an amazing job (as always), nothing is really tickling my fancy. The colours aren't for me and although I am now working full time, I am being more savy with what I purchase. There won't be anymore makeup bans, since I'm no longer a student, but instead it'll be items I'm missing or running low on and then the splurge things that I REALLY want. Rather than picking up loads of new things every other week, just because I have a disposable income now.

I hope you enjoyed the video review and thanks for being patient as I get the hang of this whole YouTube thing (especially the awkward moments and that awful outro lol).

Have you tried anything from Rihanna's new line? What are your thoughts?

Thank-you for reading

Review | Mehron Celebre HD Pro Cream Foundation in Medium-dark, Euroasia fair, medium 1, light olive and light 3

mehron celebre HD pro cream foundation in light 3, light olive, medium 1, euroasia fair, medium deep 1 review and swatch

Hello everyone! I am finally sitting down to write a review for the Mehron HD foundation, which has been around for quite some time, but shot to fame after Hrush used it on Kylie Jenner. This is the second cream foundation I have tried and it didn't take long for me to understand why one of my favourite bloggers, Oni (check out blog here) loves it so much. I had seen many beautiful photos of her makeup using this base and although I hadn't jumped at the chance to buy it, due to having enough bases, I decided to pick up the shade Euroasia Fair on the whim, to see if I would get on with it. Once I did, I realised I had to pick up a few more shades, for when I do the makeup of my family, so I now own 5 shades in total. One of the things that put me off a little from purchasing it beforehand was the difficulty with picking shades online. Whilst there are a few swatches, there aren't many, so I do hope this post will be helpful for those who are searching for theirs. I'm going to start with the review itself, then share the swatches and finally ending with how I ended up with four new shades instead of the typical two (and yes this involves a deal haha).

So starting with the packaging, this really is as basic as as it could get. Plastic container with a clear plastic lid. The shade name is written on the back and unfortunately after you've had it for a few months, it does seem to fade, so I plan to stick on some labels during some weekend I actually have the time for little jobs like that! One pot contains 25g of product, which according to google is equivalent to 25ml?? Whether thats true or not, I know you get a LOT of product in here.

Formula, Application and Finish
It is obviously a cream foundation, so its beautifully silky but I find that it can need some warming up beforehand. Personally I don't remove it from the packaging first with a spatula, I use my ring finger and literally warm up the surface for a few seconds before placing it directly on my face. If I am mixing shades I will usually mix two on the back of my hand and then apply it to my face - this works best. I have tried mixing them together by putting the lighter shade on my face first, then the darker shade on my face, proceeding to blend it all in with a brush or a sponge, but it doesn't quite photograph as flawlessly.

I tend to apply this with a damp beauty blender, however I have tried it with a buffing brush and a flat topped brush and it looks great. The formula is so blendable that it would work either way, if you want a fuller coverage buff it in with a brush and then lightly go over with a damp sponge. The finish of this foundation is a demi-matte in my opinion - AKA 'natural'. You can also manipulate the coverage, if you want a lighter coverage add less, if you want to build it up to medium/full apply another layer. I find that I can't apply more than two layers (after this it starts looking a little cakey), but as long as you've really blended it into the skin - which is easy enough to do, due to the silky creaminess, it looks great!

mehron celebre HD pro cream foundation in light 3, light olive, medium 1, euroasia fair, medium deep 1 review and swatch

In terms of longevity, if I haven't applied a primer underneath (or SPF) and if I haven't set it with powder all over and/or a setting spray the wear time I get is about 7 hours. Within around 4 hours it'll start to get a little shiny in my T-Zone. So because of this, I do gently set it in place with a loose powder - usually my NARS Soft Velvet Loose Powder in Beach, using that famous buffing technique. This keeps shine at bay. I then spritz my skin with the MUFE Setting Spray or the Pixi Makeup setting mist. I find that both of these do a good job in prolonging the wear.

Now the main reason I love this foundation for special occasions and evenings out is the fact that it really is a HD base. Which means it photographs beautifully with flash! So the reason I decided to purchase a few more shades was because I knew it would be the perfect for those times I am doing other's makeup and they'll be having their photographs taken. There is nothing as annoying as flashback when it comes to makeup and photography, so to get a foundation for less than a tenner, which doesn't flashback and looks GORGEOUS I cannot complain!

Oh and I should add here that as the packaging is very basic, and with most cream foundations its not the most sanitary, I do spritz this with surgical spirit at the moment. However I am going to be purchasing some isopropyl alcohol instead and using that to clean the surface, which is really important.

I purchased my first shade from a U.S site, but I've noticed that this one is a little stiffer than my newer four and for some reason the text which says HD Celebre pro is brighter yellow too. I'm not sure if this is because it was part of an older batch 🤔 Anyway I decided to pick up some more shades from a reliable seller on ebay, called stagedoor makeup, the link is here. They have a great deal on where you can pick up 4 shades for the price of £29.99 or one shade for £8.50 each. So you save a bit of money and I thought I might as well get a couple of shades as I wasn't sure which would be the best - online makeup shopping is tough! At the moment a couple of their shades are out of stock, but it's worth checking out what they have anyways and maybe coming back in a week or two to see if they have restocked them.

Now on to the shades themselves, as you can see I have swatched them with both natural lighting and flash. My mum kindly lent me her arm because the shades show up much clearer on her (plus she isn't having horrible skin issues like myself 😞).

Light 3 - I picked this up purely as a lightening shade and it works well for that. It is ever so slightly on the yellow side and is VERY light! I couldn't ever wear this alone but I'm glad I have it as it's been useful so far and if I ever do my auntie's makeup, she is a lot fairer than me so this'll be useful then.

Light Olive - A gorgeous yellow toned shade, I sometimes use this to highlight my face (I do still mix some of euroasia fair though!). I haven't seen this online at all, so I'm guessing this is part of their new shade range, its a great one if you have an olive skintone ofc and you're looking for a lighter shade.

Medium 3 - Regret picking this shade up! You can probably see its more on the pink side, and for that reason I just don't use it at all. Hopefully one day I can put it to use when doing someone's makeup, I don't even know. But yah if you're olive skintoned I'd recommend avoiding this.

Euroasia Fair - my closest match. It's very close to NARS Stromboli and although when I first applied it I thought it looked a little on the dark side, once I had applied my Kevyn Aucoin SSE, my face was all balanced out. Plus you can see that with flash they all lighten a little, so it's best to go for a shade thats a smidgen darker anyways. When I use this shade alone and then take flash photos, it looks the BEST! So if you're around my skintone (check my about me for shade references) definitely go for this shade. They have two other 'euroasia shades' but neither seemed close to my skintone.

Medium Dark 1 - This is the only darker shade I picked up and I really like it for mixing when I'm doing mum's makeup. I also like to use this as a bronzer shade too, it blends effortlessly and adds the perfect amount of definition ^_^ I'd recommend this is you need a darker colour to mix in with and I think its a good shade to have if you're looking for a bit of a mix!

Round Up:

Rating: 9/10

Pros: A very affordable HD foundation which is fantastic to have if you're a beginner MUA on a budget and need a base that will work well under harsh lights. It applies easily (and even if it needs warming up, still goes on quite well). Both a brush and a damp sponge will work with the application and it blends into the skin super easily. There are a wide range of shades available and all skintones are covered. The coverage is very manipulatable too which makes it super versatile. Plus you can get it on sale through stagedoor makeup and save yourself a few pennies! The fact that you can get four different shades for the price of a normal highend foundation, is pretty awesome, so if you ARE having trouble sourcing out your shade then definitely take advantage of that deal here.

Cons: This base does need some setting, my skin is normal/oily and I find that it looks quite shiny after a few hours if I don't take the time to do that. Shade matching can be difficult and as its only really available online, if you're not wanting to purchase a few shades you might have a bit of a challenge.

Overall: This is my go-to special occasion base now! I don't wear it for everyday purposes as I prefer something lighter in coverage, or just concealer since my skin is doing quite well right now. I think this is a must have base for those of you who are looking for a good foundation to wear now and again, its super affordable and photographs like a dream.

Repurchase: YES!

Have you tried the Mehron HD foundation?

P.S For my SC and IG followers, I got over 75 screenshots for those hijabs I shared yesterday which is a RECORD for me! HERE IS THE LINK, they cost £28.00 for 10 hijabs and to order the colours, you leave the colour number in the note to seller box (if you scroll down, you can see the colours clearly and each hijab is numbered). I've only had them for a day so can't really comment on the quality, but first impressions are that they're super soft and comfy and they aren't over-priced at all!

Review | NARS Sheer Glow in Stomboli and NARS ADLW in Stromboli

NARS Sheer Glow in Stomboli and NARS ADLW in Stromboli review and swatch

Hello! Its been a while since I've written a foundation review, so to make up for it, I thought I would give you guys two reviews in one post. I have owned both of these foundations for quite a while now, but the sheer glow review has been a LOOOONG time coming, because it has been an absolute favourite for over two years! So we'll start with that base and then move on to the All Day Luminous Weightless foundation, with a brief comparison at the end. This is going to be somewhat of a long post, so I recommend grabbing a snack before proceeding.

NARS Sheer Glow in Stomboli and NARS ADLW in Stromboli review and swatch

So the NARS Sheer Glow foundation has been a firm favourite of mine for a long long time now. You get 30ml for around £32 but if you're lucky you can might be able to find your shade on ASOS and get it when they have a good 20% off sale on! Sadly right now Stromboli is not on their site, but it is worth checking it out to see if yours is there. I first saw beautycrush, use this base and then Shaanxo and it didn't take me long to pick it up myself! A quick search on my blog has told me that I picked this up at the end of 2014, so it is high time I got myself another bottle haha.

Sheer glow has a confusing name and any review you may watch on it, I can almost guarantee the person talking about the base will tell you that it is not a sheer foundation! However what almost everyone seems to miss is that it literally gives you a SHEER GLOW! The finish on the skin is a sheer glow, I'd describe it as satin like and that is why it is so popular amongst so many people. It's not matte, nor is it overly dewy which makes is beautiful on the skin. The coverage is medium but buildable, although I do tend to apply a light layer and then a tiny bit more over the areas that might need them.

Sheer glow photographs beautifully, there is no flashback at all and it is a really stunning olive shade for me. I think the main reason why I loved it so much two years ago, was that it was one of the first olive toned foundations I've ever owned. NARS do WOC shades sooo well! Something which the majority of highstreet brands really lack unfortunately. I also adore the medium coverage, which is definitely my comfortzone because all discolouration and redness is beautifully evened out and there really is a gorgeous sheer glow to the skin AND the base holds in place all day without the need for a specific primer of setting spray (of course both of these would increase the longevity even more! But in general I don't find I HAVE to use them in order for it to stay in place). I don't need too much to cover my entire face either.

Application wise, I LOVE using a damp beauty blender, to bounce this into the skin. However it also applies nicely with a buffing brush. If I am wearing it for a special occasion, I'll usually set my T-Zone with the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush flawless powder in medium, which keeps shine away after a couple of hours. However for day to day, I won't get it because it holds well alone. I do sometimes need to touch up after a while though.

The only thing I dislike about this base, is the lack of a pump. You can buy one for an extra £3, but I do think thats a big silly and they should have just included a pump. When I use the last few drops of this bottle, I'll be picking a pump up online and repurchasing ASAP, because I really adore this and even though I've purchased a lot of foundations since buying the sheer glow, this one STILL stands the test of time. It's in my top three high end bases and I recommend everyone to try it out, unless you have really really oily skin, because this doesn't have a matte finish.

NARS Sheer Glow in Stomboli and NARS ADLW in Stromboli review and swatch

Moving on to Sheer glow's sister, the All day luminous weightless foundation, has one of the longest names ever and you get 30ml for £34. When this foundation was released, so many loved it and were raving about the coverage, however I was so into sheer glow (which I still am as you can tell if you read the above!), I wasn't tempted to purchase it. However when I saw it on sale on ASOS, I snagged it for around £27 and wanted to give it a good go. First of all the packaging of this is a little more functional than S.G, because hooray it comes with a PUMP! It's a lot taller than sheer glow and has a frosted glass effect, to be honest neither are great for travelling but it is what it is.

So ADLW has a very thin liquidy consistency and when I say a little goes a long way, I really do mean that! Often two pumps is too much for my whole face, so I like to go in with one pump using a damp beauty blender and as I bounce the product into my skin I literally see all blemishes disappear. The covergae of this foundation is fantastic, its one of the highest coverage bases I have ever owned and you can really achieve a blank canvas look with this. It also lives up to its weightless name, as the formula is so thin I can hardly feel it on my face, even though its obvious I'm wearing foundation due to the coverage.

NARS Sheer Glow in Stomboli and NARS ADLW in Stromboli review and swatch

It claims to give you 16 hours of wear, however I actually find that sheer glow lasts longer on my skin before it starts looks shiny. I typically get about 9 hours of wear with ADLW before my face starts to glow a little too much. Now when I pop the  Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush flawless powder in medium on after this time, it looks just as beautiful as it did before, but I have to say it's not as long wearing as I expected. Personally this foundation doesn't oxidise on me, although I've heard it does for others - although it is a tiny bit darker than the sheer glow stromboli, so perhaps keep that in mind if you've tried S.G and want to pick this one up.

Personally I like to wear this foundation on bad skin days where I have a lot of blemishes and scars to cover. I also reach for it when I'm going out for a couple of hours and I really want a full coverage base. If it stayed non-shiny for a longer time, I think I'd wear this more often, but because of that and also because of how full coverage it is, I just don't wear it enough.

NARS Sheer Glow in Stomboli and NARS ADLW in Stromboli review and swatch

Now on to a little comparison, like I said sheer glow has been my all time favourite and it still is between the two of them.

You might like ADLW if: you want a full coverage foundation that doesn't feel heavy on the skin at all. You're looking for a strong olive toned foundation because this really is! You want a base that doesn't flash back, this photographs beautifully and you have normal/combo/slightly oily skin.
Repurchase: No, although I love the coverage I don't prefer a full coverage on a regular basis so I don't get enough use out of this. I am planning on mixing it with a few other bases and seeing if I can get the longevity to improve because thats another reason why I'm not so keep. To be honest I'm waiting to use this up so I have an excuse to purchase the Marc Jacobs foundation - another full coverage one that has great reviews!
Rating: 7/10

You might like Sheer Glow if: you prefer a medium coverage with a satin finish, you want a base that photographs beautifully and doesn't flash back and if you want a base lasts well on the skin longevity wise!
Repurchase: ohhhh yes! For sure, I really can't fault the foundation itself, its my go-to and I adore it.
Rating: 10/10

The main difference to me is the coverage and the lasting time on the skin. For me sheer glow will stay on the skin looking just as beautiful 8 hours later, as when I first applied it. When I check back in the mirror, I rarely need to touch up (although sometimes I do!) and my skin looks the same colour as when I applied it, it's stayed where I put it and I can rely on this to photograph gorgeously. The pump is a bit of an annoyance, but I can honestly look past that because the foundation speaks for itself. I wish the ADLW looked the same a couple of hours later, but it just doesn't appear quite as in tact and lovely as sheer glow does for me.

Have you tried either of these foundations? What are your thoughts?

Review | NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint in St Mortiz

NARS Matte Skin Tint in St Mortiz review and swatch

Hello everyone! Today I am going to be reviewing the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint (£30.00) in the shade St Mortiz. I've had this base for a couple of weeks now and I have really enjoyed using it, especially as I'm not a regular in the matte foundation department - I prefer a satin/dewy finish myself. But recently my skintype has shifted to combo, with some areas of my face being normal and others getting oily rather quickly, so this definitely interested me. It also  received a LOT of good reviews, so of course when I saw my shade available on the ASOS 20% off sale I purchased it.

Packaging

This is the sleeker, yet equally as convenient packaging to it's elder sister the NARS Tinted Moisturiser and I really like it. It doesn't take up much room, its lightweight and non-messy too! Another reason why the packaging is so long is because you get a huge 50ml amount of product for the £30, which is pretty awesome value for money. It is almost as affordable as a highstreet base if you think about it and it certainly is the best price I've paid for a 50ml high end base.

NARS Matte Skin Tint in St Mortiz review and swatch

Formula and Coverage

The formula is akin to a foundation rather than a tint, so I don't find it great to use my fingers. It does blend into the skin evenly though, using either a damp beauty blender or a buffing brush. Like I said I'm not really used to a matte finish, so to me this definitely is MATTE, which did take some getting used to. I find that as long as I've moisturised well and used my beloved Mario Badescu Facial Spray (reviewed here), it applies and sits beautifully on the skin. However when my skin is on the drier side, or I've had to skip out on the prep it does tend to catch on the little dry patches and obviously accentuate them. Prep is key here.

Coverage wise I really really like this, again its less of a tint and more of a medium coverage. It evens out the skintone and covers most of my redness around the nose. This makes it a great base to rely on for the warmer days and when the skin needs a bit of an extra help thanks to the generous coverage. This base also contains SPF 30 which makes it great for day to day wear, of course you shouldn't skip out on SPF EVER but if you live in a sunnier country this is another pro for sure.

NARS Matte Skin Tint in St Mortiz review and swatch

Longevity

The NARS Matte Skin Tint lasts for a decent amount of time on the skin, I get to at least 8 hours before my T-zone starts getting a little oily and that is without any other prep underneath. When I use a priming water (more specifically the Freedom one here, which I have been really enjoying btw) my base does look fresher for longer. I'm not the biggest fan of using a powder over the top when oil starts to seep through though.

NARS Matte Skin Tint in St Mortiz review and swatch vs NARS tinted moisturiser st moritz medium 1

St. Mortiz Matte Skin Tint VS Tinted Moisturiser

As you can see there is quite a shade difference between the Matte tint on the left, to the tinted moisturiser on the right. So if you already own the TM and you're planning on getting this, make sure you're aware of this and go down to the next shade if need be. Personally the NARS tinted moisturiser for me is best in the summer time and it is a shade or two deeper than my skin-tone which I like. However it's been quite nice getting a really close shade match from NARS, which is a little less on the yellow side too. As the TM is a little deep for me anyways, the matte tint matches very well and it works.

Round Up:

Rating: 7/10

Pros: It is a comfortable 'soft' matte base to wear, and has a good shade range which doesn't exclude women of colour. I also appreciate that contains SPF 30. The longevity is good and when I've prepped my skin correctly it lasts well and remains looking fresh on the face. You get a really good amount of product for your money and its a good base for combo/normal skintypes.

Cons: It does cling to dry patches and I find that it needs some extra prep to make it work really well.

Overall: Like I said at the start I have really enjoyed using this skin tint, though I would describe it as more of a matte medium coverage base, which isn't too harsh for dry skins and also sits well with oily skins. Really it is the ideal matte base for normal/combo skintypes, not so matte that it'll zap out any moisture but just matte enough for me anyway. It leaves a very subtle glow A.K.A a matte not flat finish to the skin and personally its a nice enough base for now and again. However it's not a base I'd reach for on a daily basis and I don't think I'll be quick to repurchase it either, simply because I do like that satin look to the skin! I think I'll get the most use out of this in the Autumn time, when I'll have longer days at my teacher training and I'll need to rely on a base that will last well. So we shall see how I feel about it in a few months! For now I'm glad to have this in my stash, but it hasn't replaced my love for the other NARS bases.

Have you tried this matte tint? What are your thoughts?

Review | Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation in Y365/123

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation in Y365/123 review and swatch

Hello! This review has been in the pipeline for months, so I'm excited to be sitting down and finally writing it. So this is the second foundation I have purchased from Make Up For Ever, the first was the Face and Body (reviewed here) and I absolutely love it. It's quick to apply, water based and has great longevity. I've always wanted to buy the more famous sister though and when they reformulated it, into an 'Ultra' version of the HD designed for 4K cameras, I jumped at the chance last summer. Whilst I still love the Face and Body, this Ultra HD foundation has seriously impressed me, quickly becoming my go-to foundation. In fact I think I'm down to the last few pumps which never ever happens so quickly as I'm usually always switching between bases.

Packaging

This foundation is packaging in a sleek cylinder bottle, which is made out of plastic, lightweight and great for travelling. I imagine this also makes it great for makeup artist's kits too, as it is a professional brand. The black lid is secure on the bottle and I feel like the silver rim adds a touch of luxe to the otherwise practical bottle. I find each pump releases a decent amount of foundation too, again ever so practical too. The only downside to this bottle is its almost impossible to see how much foundation is left, as I've said I think I'm down to my final few pumps, but I really can't tell based on the bottle!

Price

The MUFU Ultra HD foundation usually costs £29.00 for 30ml, but it's currently on sale at Debenhams for £26.10! I think the price is completely justifiable and a part of me wants to take advantage of the 10% off and purchase another, however I have far too many bases to justify it right now haha.

Formula and Finish

The best way to describe this formula is silky and 'skin like'. As described by MUFE, this is like a second skin with medium coverage. It blends into the skin like a dream and my primary tool to use with this, is a damp beauty blender. A damp sponge is apparently the most recommended too, however I quite liked how it looked with an Artist brush dupe too! The way it looks on the skin, is exactly why I really love this base. It almost melts into the skin, without highlighting any dry patches, sinking into pores or looking cakey in the slightest. It is a truly beautiful foundation and I 100% understand why so many people have loved it for years and why a lot of artists use it on their brides for their wedding.

The finish is a lot less dewy than the Face and Body but not at all matte either, which makes it perfect for day to day use. The Ultra HD formula is designed to make skin look near flawless under 4K cameras and it really does photograph like a dream too. Although it looks great alone, I do find that when I'm wearing it in warmer weather, if I don't set this in place with a powder it will have disappeared in some places on my face (like around my mouth and on my nose). My skin is combination these days, which is probably why it wears differently, however I'm sure oily skinned girls who have worn this will recommend setting it with a powder too.

I don't find this formula to be particularly buildable, so if I'm having a bad skin-day/a breakout, I normally skip this and opt for something fuller coverage such as the NARS Sheer Glow or Dior Skin Star (reviewed).  I also don't think this is super long lasting, unless you're setting your face with powder and using a primer beforehand. If I wear this alone, just over a moisturiser and with no powder, I get about 6-7 hours of good wear before I notice it fading. This is fine for a short shift at work, or lunch with the girls, but for a long day at Uni it's just not ideal. So preparation is key if you are planning on wearing it on a hotter day or longer day.

A big reason why I am such a huge fan of this foundation is how close the colour match is. Never ever has a foundation matched me SO perfectly and there is something very satisfying about a shade being bang on. I'm sure we've all had that struggle on trying to lighten a foundation a little, or bronzing up extra because the base is too light...so to find the PERFECT shade match is near enough a miracle! Make Up For Ever have an incredible 40 shades in their line, so although it may be tricky figuring out which shade is best for you, I'm almost certain you'll find a great match too. By the way, I used the great site called findation.com to help me get my correct shade, definitely try it out if you don't live near a counter but still want to take advantage of the offer/pick this up online in the future.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation in Y365/123 review and swatch

Here's a slightly blurry swatch, but I thought I'd take advantage of that random spot on my arm to show you the coverage. As you can see the skintone is evened out, but you can still kinda see the spot under the base. Personally for day to day I'm happy with this kind of medium coverage, and unless it's a big nasty spot I won't bother going in with concealer. However for special occasions, if I'm having a good skin day I'll just colour correct a little first and then use this alone on top.

Round Up:

Rating: 8/10

Pros: It looks absolutely beautiful on the skin, it doesn't accentuate any flaws and it photographs amazingly well as the name suggests. I think the packaging is very practical, the shade range is brilliant and I adore the fact that I finally have a bang on shade match too! The finish is lovely, satin/skin-like and for me its the perfect coverage for everyday.

Cons: As I only typically powder under the eyes, I do find it a little annoying that I have to set more of my face to keep this base on for longer. Also being able to see how much product is left would be useful!

Overall: This is definitely in my top three from the foundations in my collection, with the two mentioned above from NARS and Dior taking up the other two spots (if you'd like a Top Three high end bases post, let me know!). It's the ideal base for every day makeup and occasional makeup too, it looks so flawless on the skin and is a very reliable base, whether my skin has random dry patches or not.

Repurchase? Yes I will be, I just want to get through some of my other bases first!

Review | DiorSkin Star Foundation in 31

Dior skin star foundation in 31 review and swatch

Hello everyone, I hope you’re doing well. Today’s review is of Diorskin Star* a foundation which has landed a spot in my top 3, so I’m very excited to be reviewing it for you all. Dior Star was released around a year ago and it had a lot of sparkling reviews from makeup artists and bloggers alike, so I knew it was one I had to try. I actually picked this up for free using my boots points which was amazing, imagine getting a Dior foundation and paying £0.00 for it?! (For more info on how I save money on makeup check out this post.) It was one of the best bargains of 2015 for me and I highly recommend my fellow U.K ladies to do the same with their points - treat yourself ^_^

Lets start with the visuals, the bottle is absolutely beautiful. The glass packaging and a sleek black lid with the initials of ‘C.D’ engraved on the top. It feels luxurious and I’m glad because at the price of £32.50 this is one of the most expensive foundations I have ever used! You get a standard 30ml and the pump is very handy, I like that it distributes a smaller amount so you don’t waste any product at all.

Dior say that it is a brightening foundation, which feels weightless and is ‘capable of instantly and lastingly recreating the spectacular and perfecting light of Dior studios.’ I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve never been into said Dior studios .__. However I do agree with their claims here. The formula isn’t exactly dewy where you feel the need to add powder over the top, but at the same time it doesn’t have a totally satin formula either - it really is very brightening! The complexion looks healthier and the medium coverage gives it a sort of ‘perfect bare skin’ look. Y’know how you would want your skin to look without any makeup? All unevenness covered, redness reduced, skin looking radiant? Yeah one and a half pumps provides that easily. It is also not a heavy feeling foundation, although I wouldn’t quite stretch to weightless, it feels very comfortable on the skin and blends beautifully.

Dior skin star foundation in 31 review and swatch

Its the kind of base where I catch my reflection in a mirror or a car window and I’m instantly like ‘wow Iqra, you’re looking a solid 8.5 today, iz dat u yh??’ in the least narcissistic way possible!! It makes my skin look SO beautiful, I use two pumps all over my face with a damp beauty blender and the finished result is so worth the high price tag. All uneven skintone is covered, it is kind to dry patches and it doesn’t sink into pores. I also love that you can build it up in areas you need a bit extra of coverage without fearing that horrid cakey look.

Dior star contains SPF of 30+ making it fantastic for the day-time. There is a total of 16 shades which is pretty good although not it doesn’t cater for ALL skintones by any means. I bought the shade 31 after using the tester bottle for a while and it’s my perfect summer time colour. Technically I can get away with using it all year around due to my hijab, however it is definitely a tanned version of my natural completion. But not so tanned that it looks obvious, I think the brightening formula of this foundation means that when its blended in the skin, it just looks so seamless I LOVE IT.

I’ve added a swatch of this and NARS Sheer Glow in Stromboli (on the right) and as you can see NARS is a lot more yellow toned! So if stromboli is perfect for YOU don’t go ahead and by the shade 31 without getting a tester first, because like I said I don’t mind the more warmer tone but it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Basically get a sample for sure, with this price tag it’s important you don’t get the shade wrong!

Dior skin star foundation in 31 review and swatch

Longevity wise it works better than Diorskin Nude without primer and powder which is awesome, I’d say it lasts well for over 7 hours without that extra help. However with SPF, a primer and a bit of powder when I need it I get at least 9 hours of beautiful wear. One thing to note is that it’s not totally transfer proof, meaning it will probably attach itself to your sunglasses if you choose to put them on - annoying! I suppose if you had a special event to go to and you wanted to wear this you could carry the handy little sample bottle to touch up with, ehh it’s not ideal but it’s workable.

Overall its a gorgeous base, the healthy and brightening formula which actually lasts decently well on the skin delivers a healthy glow, with medium coverage. Of course for acne, dark spots etc. you’ll need to go in with a concealer if you want that totally flawless look.

Overall Rating
Rating: 9.5
Pros: It lives up to the name, it really is a star foundation, with medium coverage it doesn’t mask the skin in the slightest, nor does it sink into pores, buildable and it builds beautifully none of that nasty cakey look, it brightens up the skin and as this shade is a little deeper than my normal skintone it gives my face a real warmth and glow! It blends into the skin easily, it feels light and comfortable to wear and it can last for a decent 9/10 hours depending on prep.
Cons: The shade range isn’t great, it might take you a couple of samples to find your perfect shade and even then I don’t think those with super yellow or pink undertones will find a match (correct me if I’m wrong though!!).
Repurchase? Yes the finish of this is so hard to find and this JUST WORKS SOOO WELL. I love it ^_^

Review + HG | MAKE UP FOR EVER Face & Body Foundation in 32

MAKE UP FOR EVER Face & Body Foundation in 32 review and swatch

Ladies..I have some pretty big news...I have finally found a new favourite base and it only took a couple of weeks of this being in my possession for it to land that title. When MUFE launched in Debenhams I was incredibly excited, because I had only heard good things about the professional brand. My previous favourite base, the MAC F&B was no longer an option to purchase, since boycotting Estee Lauder more about that here if you’re interested. I had heard about the MUFE version of course but it was so difficult to find I just decided to look elsewhere for an alternative. I came close with the Bareminerals Bare Skin Foundation (review) but it just wasn’t THE ONE and of course the search continued. Recently one of my favourite YouTubers Kathleen Lights did a foundations video and I’m sure this is the one that came out top of her list so I leaped at my chance to purchase this as soon as I could and I’m now ready to give you the detailed review!

MAKE UP FOR EVER Face & Body Foundation in 32 review and swatch

Packaging
The foundation is packaged in a cute little glass bottle, which isn’t ideal for travelling but it is sturdy and suits the formula of the base well, as it needs to be shaken up before use. The pump is really useful, with one distributing enough to provide a light coverage all over the face. I normally use a pump and a half, the extra adding more coverage to areas with with greater discolouration. I much prefer this packaging to MAC’s version - the pump makes it easy to distribute enough without wasting any and it looks much sleeker too. The simple font is clear to read, with instructions on the back, the amount of foundation in the bottle and the shelf-life too. The only slight complaint I have with this is that the shade number which is written at the bottom has already scratched off, not a biggie but still.

Price
It costs £27 for 50ml which is more generous than your standard foundation. At first I thought you would have to use a good deal more due to the gel-texture but nope, the standard pump and a half - two pumps. Also I managed to get mine for 10% off so overall the £24.30 price tag is fantastic ^_^

Formula
The face and body foundation has a gel-like formula which requires a lot of shaking up to use to it’s full ability. I would describe the formula as a cross between a gel and a liquid and it is water-proof which makes it fantastic longevity wise because my skin is still glowing in the evening the same way it was in the morning! The problem I find with a lot of dewy bases are that they just don’t stay put, which makes this base really stand out to me because it’s one I can count on for long days, hot days, beach days, pretty much whatever-ya-name-it-days. Water-proof yes but it can transfer a little towards the end of the day, especially around the mouth (eating/drinking) if not set at all. Bottom line though is that the MUFE face and body is very reliable and stays on better than any other base with a similar finish. The other day I was already wearing this from 9am till 6pm and I then had a Lush event to go to straight after work. Now 9 hours laters I expected to look in the mirror and find most of my base faded, but much to my surprise at least 85% was still in place - YAAAS. All I did was apply a little bit of the Bourjois healthy balance powder and it honestly made my face look fresh and complete all over again, so if you do need to top up, it allows you to do so with ease (and without caking!).

Finish
The finish is described on their site as satin, but to me its a mixture of satin and dewy which I LOVE. It makes the skin look so radiant and non-foundationish whilst still evening out the skintone, covering over redness and adding a beautiful golden glow. This is the ultimate ‘no-makeup makeup’ kinda base which still gives you beautiful looking skin. Will this cover scars and blemishes perfectly? No it won’t, but personally when I do have blemishes I hate wearing a heavy foundation over them, I want my skin to be able to breathe and heal as much as possible, so I always opt for a base which gives a good medium coverage and then conceal over the ‘problem areas’. The MAC F&B leaves a tacky finish to the skin which was kinda irritating and you had to set it in place. The MUFE F&B doesn’t as long as you let your moisturiser and whatnot sink in properly first, there’s a glow but nothing sticky or irritating - so if you want a full on glowy look you can skip powder. I tend to set around my nose (after concealer) and around my mouth, rather than all over because I love the finish!

Application
After giving it a good shake, I pump 1 and a half on the back of my hand and my favourite way to apply this is using my fingers! I love sponges and brushes but for the consistency of this kinda base, I find the warmth of my fingers work really well to get optimum coverage and it doesn’t take too long either. On days when I’m in a massive rush though, I’ll use the Real Techniques Buffing Brush which works very well and of course is quicker than using the fingers. I did try this with the beautyblender for the purpose of this review and it was kinda meh, it gave me a very light coverage so I wouldn’t use it again to blend this foundation out.

Shade 32
When I took the bottle out of the packaging my face was literally ‘D:’ because it looked a LOT darker than I had imagined and quite orange/beige. However when this is blended into the skin, some bizarre magical thing happens and it actually adapts really really well to your skintone! I would say this is a good match for NC30 and it’s one of the closest matches to my own skintone, despite the fact that it looks really orange when you first start blending (as you can see above!). When blended in it does look lighter and that pretty scary orange blob up there is no longer the case. I don't know how they did it but I'm not complaining! The shade range of the MUFE line is really confusing to work out, but the formula of the face and body means everyone will probably be able to find one which will work well for them - as it does adapt beautifully. Just don't be put off by how it looks above or in the bottle, that's not an accurate representation of the colour.

All blended out - overall finish

Top tips for using this foundation
As it is quite different to your normal foundation, I thought I’d add a little bit of advise if you do end up purchasing this.

  • As the formula is 80% water you need to make sure your moisturiser underneath is also water based - if you opt for an oil based one the foundation won’t sit well.
  • Also whatever you’re wearing underneath (moisturiser, primer, SPF etc) try to make sure it has really sunken into the skin, so the texture of the face and body isn’t changed.
  • It doesn't contain SPF so it looks good in flash photography, however when wearing it to a event I do like to add powder to tone it down a little as it can make your face appear sort of shiny with a strong flash.

I think you’ll love this too if you’re a fan of natural/glowy looking skin which lasts really well without the need for powder or retouching. With one layer it honestly can look like you’re not wearing a base at all, however it’s still buildable to a medium coverage. It looks almost invisible on the skin, blending in like a dream and it feels lightweight too. There are some bases in my collection that I’m on the fence about repurchasing, however this is one I will always have in my collection - it’s incredible and I cannot sing its praises enough!! I love that I can use this base with ease all year round - in the summer it stays put and in the winter it'll work just as well with my more dry skin during that season ^_^ I was a little even nervous to write a review in case I didn’t do it justice - yes I love it that much!

Overall Rating

Rating: 9.5

Pros: Sleek packaging with a useful pump, light-medium coverage, satin-dewy finish, basically the ultimate glowy base without looking sweaty lol. Perfect no-makeup-makeup base, can also be built up to a medium coverage and then if you add concealer - bam you have the perfect base! So yeah very very versatile, long lasting, blends in beautifully, applies best with fingers so you don’t need to have a clean brush or sponge available, as the formula is so adaptable there is probably a shade for everyone - just don’t judge it by the colour of the bottle! Seems to work well on oily skin, dry skin and of course normal skin. Just makes my skin look incredible, not cakey, not powdery, not too dewy/shimmery - just youthful and like its glowing from within!

Cons: Bottle means it’s not the best for travelling with like all other high end bases, theres a slight fragrance to it when first applied, must be shaken up.

Repurchase? Yes, yes, yes, YESSSSS. I am honestly so over the moon to have this and I’m not ever letting it go now :’)
