Disappointing Products #1

disappointing products clinique take the day off makeup remover nuxe reve de meil scandaleyes thick and thin liner seventeen phwoarr paint

Hello my lovely readers, I hope you’re all doing well. This post is something that has been in the pipeline for a while, and I thought it was about time I typed it up. Now before we divulge into the products I want to say that I am still using some of these products (due to hating  wasting makeup) and by ‘disappointing’ it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re useless. Sometimes you have high expectations and they just don’t live up to them. What works for me may not work for everybody and vica versa. My beauty blog is about things I love 90% of the time, but what good is a beauty blog if it doesn’t discuss the not so good sometimes either?? ^_^

1. SEVENTEEN Phwoarr Paint | Review

For me any concealer that claims to cover up dark circles has my interest so I gave it a shot after reading several reviews. Although the drugstore are notorious for having not enough shades, the fact that there were two made me assume that the light shade would be salmon coloured and the medium colour would be peach toned. THAT would have been brilliant for girls like myself who have horrendous dark circles that are not blue in colour, but  nope medium is pink toned, it looks bizarrely white/grey under my eyes and fails to colour correct. After reading promising reviews I was more than a little disappointed.....however it’s not ALL dark and gloomy, because I may have found two other uses for it...more on that later..but if you’re looking for a good cover all concealer, expensive but SO worth it - invest in the Kevyn Aucoin SSE. It’s changed my life for real.

2. Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm

Oh my goodness, you would not believe the hype behind this lip balm! It is insane, so SO many beauty bloggers and vloggers swear by this lipbalm, so naturally I had high hopes. It’s by one of my favourite skincare brands, but on this occasion I feel let down. It’s known to be a matte lip balm, and the thick texture contributes to that. However it seems to do NOTHING to sooth or nourish the lips for me, even when rubbed in/applied thickly at night. I’ve tried this in so many ways and to no avial. Honestly the only use I have for this is a matte base for when I want a matte look. I’m sad it didn’t work for me, but I think there are better lip balms that actually do what they say - for a couple of quid. Blistex, ily xox

3.  Rimmel London Scandaleyes Thick and Thin Eyeliner

I got this eyeliner free in one of those promotional ‘spend this much and get...’ and let me tell you if I had paid a fiver for this I would NOT have been happy. The tip of the pen is kinda in the shape of those posh handwriting pens we had at school which where encased in an olive green packaging and were for fancy calligraphy writing. The concept of having a thinner tip at one end seems brilliant but in reality the tip is hard and can be painful to apply to the delicate eye area. The liner itself didn’t flow well and I had to keep going over and over the eye for an even line, something I expect maybe after two months of use,  but certainly not on first use! I have tried twice more to make this work, but to no luck. In the bin you go, where you belong. (Try their exaggerate liquid liner it’s 100X better).

4. Natural Collection Lipliner ‘Almond’ (not pictured, chucked away I hated it that much)

A lipliner that just doesn’t line or fill in the lips nicely at all. The texture is really bizarre and on my lips it emphasises any dry patches extensively. It looks sickly on my complexion and every time I tried to make it work I was reminded that again this is not a product that I can get on with. Perhaps it’s the shade that makes me dislike it even more? Regardless not a product I would recommend, the Rimmel lip liners (both lines) are far superior and only one or two pounds more, so if I were you I’d skip past this stand and head to Rimmel.

5. Clinique - Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips

So this is actually from an UNETHICAL brand - owned by Estee Lauder. But I thought I should add it anyways as I know lots of ladies read this blog and I honestly think you should save your monies and skip this out. I purchased it in 2013 in the Debenhams sale and I expected excellent things from such a well loved brand on the blogosphere, however it was a miserable experience from day one. It’s in a two part solution, one of oil the other of the makeup remover. This is worth £17 so I would expect it to remove eyemake-up with no issues. However it took a lot of uncomfortable rubbing of the solution soaked pad, and still I have black smears around my eyes which I had to remove using a separate remover?! Ridiculous, I would be annoyed if a drugstore makeup remover caused me so much hassle, so the fact that this costs a lot of money for what is it, and still didn’t work, ugh I cannot express how frustrating that is. Bioderma is SOO much better, please don’t waste your money on this fraudulent rubbish which also funds Israel’s war crimes.

That is it for part one, I know this isn’t the most positive post but hey that is just life, not everything goes the way we want it too, and these 5 found a way to disappoint me personally, but like I said for a couple of them they’re well loved! Just a little heads up.

Thank-you for reading ♥

Whats in my travel makeup bag?

travel makeup bag

Hello everybody! Today I am going to share with you what I took along with me when I went to London for a few days. Personally when I am away from home, the range of makeup I take with me is not important because 1. I’m going away to spend time with family/visit new places and 2. I have to lug it all around, no tank u

On that note, the things that I do choose to take with me need to be reliable and non-faff!

This is my travel makeup bag – its really cute if I do say so myself! By the brand ThursdayFriday,  I bought it from asos and you can find the same/similar right here (currently on sale!). I was pleasantly surprised about how much I got into it, and actually I didn’t need to take my RT brush holder (which you get with the core collection and starter eye kit) because I was only taking 4 brushes, and they fitted snuggly inside too!

The base I opted for, has been one that I am continuously impressed with whenever I apply it - the Bourjois 123 Perfect CC cream. Firstly it provides a light-medium coverage, and effectively covers up redness, whilst still giving natural finish. I love love love the finish and the SPF which is something my other bases actually lack. I think another reason why I adore this is how blend-able it is with my fingers! I mean sure you can use a brush, but I prefer le fingers because its quick, simple and great coverage for a CC cream.

Blush wise I went for a shimmery one Sleek Rose Gold blush and a matte one Natural Collection – Peach Melba. I opted for these because they are small, and if they do end up being broken due to travel it won’t be the end of the world (won’t catch me saying the same about thing for my NARS ones being broken!). Also I’m trying to use the NC ones up as I don’t really have room in my collection for them anymore, and their lasting power isn’t fabulous. However the two mixed gave a beautiful pink glow, which stayed put for a decent amount of time.

Highlight, I went for the super versatile MUA shimmer kisses bronzer, which I’m considering doing a full review for because for it’s price, I really think it should be in everyone’s collection!

My normal concealer routine consists of these three products, so how could I leave them behind?! The Benefit Erase Paste – shade 3 as my corrector, the collection lasting perfection – shade 3 as my concealer and all set with the Ben Nye Banana Powder. My two every-day under-eye essential brushes are the RT detailer brush, for applying the corrector and the RT setting brush for the Ben Nye.

For the eyes I kept it really simple, with the MUA Undress me too palette, which is basically the perfect drugstore palette along side its elder sister. I mean for under a fiver could you ask for anything more? A matte base, a matte black, lots of golden, bronzes and taupes!  I honestly don’t think I’ll ever be without this in my collection ^_^ I decided to skip on liner, and just add some darker shadow if I wanted more definition.  For brows I took my ABH Brow Wiz in the shade Brunette, which has the perfect spoolie!

Lips wise was a random selection that was already in my handbag – MAC’s Peach Blossom and the MUA Power Pout in Rendezvous.

I know it might seem like a lot for some people, but it was a toughie to narrow my collection down to a couple of things! I mean I didn’t even put in a contour, eyeliner or mascara (shock horror!). Actually I quite enjoyed not having all that choice, it reminded me of during my spending ban time when I restricted myself to a few products for the whole week – I feel like that’s how you really get a feel for the products and how to best use them y’know?

What are your must haves when travelling?

Thanks for reading!

On My Face This Week (OMFTW) #1 | #JANBLOG 20

OMFTW1

Hello! I’ve realised that since blogging about a certain topic and committing to it on here, my little website, I am much more motivated to keep at it! So I’ve decided to start a mini series type thing, in an effort to switch up my makeup a lot more often (as I am on a spending ban..97 days to go! heh). One of the main reasons I put myself on a ban was to really make the most of the makeup I do own, so I’m hoping that each Monday I’ll post a fairly brief roundup of ‘what's on my face for the following week’ and then hopefully next week I can give you guys a mini report on what I choose to use last week! If this is confusing, hopefully it’ll make more sense as time goes on!

Also some of this stuff I’ve used once ._. and you all know how I love to do my reviews, but using a product ONCE…not good enough Iqra! I’m hoping that by using it continuously for a week or two I’ll be able to give a real feel for the stuff y’know?!

IMG_7034IMG_7038IMG_7033

For week 1 I have:

  • E.L.F HD Blush in Superstar
  • E.L.F Warm Bronzer
  • MUA Shimmer Kisses Bronzer
  • Anastasia Dip-Brow Pomade in Chocolate
  • Natural Collection Blush in Sweet Cheeks
  • Bourjois 16hr Linear Pinceau Liquid Liner in Black

The rest is pretty much standard so shouldn’t have really been in there, but as you can see I've moved this weeks stash to the top of my muji system so it’s easily accessible. Now I would normally just do one blush but I know the HD stuff can be super messy and on days where I have limited time to do my face that’s not helpful! I was going to throw in a palette too but I have another separate idea for that (aren’t I full of them these days?! o_0) soo yeah, stay tuned for next Monday to hopefully read a mini verdict!

And I’d love to know how you’ve got on with any of these if you’ve used them ^_^
