LOTW | The Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Liquid Lipstick in Committed

The Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Liquid Lipstick in Committed review and swatch

Hello everyone! This will be my last lipstick of the week for a while, as I have quite a few colourpop LLS coming in the post, so will be testing those out and reviewing them in groups of four instead ^_^ Anyway this week I have worn The Balm's Committed for most of the days I've been wearing makeup and I really really like it. So much so that I included it in my May faves too.

Price: This liquid lipstick costs £13.50 which is the typical pricepoint for this brand, right in-between highstreet and highend. Although having said that, it's made more affordable because its available on ASOS and Feelunique, two sites which often have some sort of discount on.

Packaging: A simple plastic tube with a silver lid and a bit of cutesy The Balm image on the front! I like how easy it is to see the colour through the clear tube and theres not a lot to say about the packaging aside from that it's neat and functional. The doe-foot applicator is comfortable to use and I really like how it distributes just the right amount of product too.

Formula and Lasting time: The Balm's liquid lipstick line is awesome, the formula is very light weight and it lasts a looong time! With eating and drinking it has remained in place for 7 hours - pretty impressive seeing as I devoured a scrumptious GBK burger. By the 8.5 hour mark the colour had definitely faded but it still looked decent (don't you just love it when your lippie fades evenly ^_^). It feels kind of cooling on the lips as it dries down. The formula itself isn't very liquid like, it's more on the cream side of things. It does remind me ever so slightly of the Stila formula, however these are a lot less thick. They take longer to dry than your average liquid lipstick formula which is on the runny side, so it will transfer a little for the first 10/15 minutes after application.

Colour: Committed is a shade which seems to look different on different skintones. I first saw Lustrelux talk about it and on her it seemed quite mauvy, whereas it can come off quite peachy on warmer skintones. On me its a MLBB crossed with a peachy/pink shade too.  I'm not a big fan of pink, I prefer mauves and browns, however I do like committed! For me it's the perfect summer liquid lipstick, as it is that little bit brighter than my usual but I can also happily wear this alone. Although I do love to mix up all my lip choices haha, but this one is good to go alone too which is rare. Overall I would say that Committed is one of the most wearable shades for day-to-day and

Favourite way to wear it: Like I said, I do like wearing this alone with just a slightly deeper lipliner to define the lips a little. However I also have really enjoying mixing this with lighter liquid lipstick shades, specifically Colourpop's Clueless which as you can see swatched below is a cool toned nude pink shade. I don't know if you can see the mix as well as I had hoped, but hopefully you can see that committed and clueless create a gorgeous mix of mauve, nude and MLBB!

Overall: I really like this liquid lipstick, its comfortable to wear and easy to apply and go without much thought. I love how it doesn't feel thick on the lips, nor does it flake off. The price point is affordable and its pretty easily accessible here in the U.K - which is rare for a lot of the liquid lipstick brands! I don't think the shade range is the best, although they have come out with a couple of newer ones, but nothing has really caught my eye aside from this shade. To be honest I have more than enough liquid lipsticks in my collection at present, especially with my upcoming colourpop order than should be coming in next week EEEEK, so I'm in no rush to pick up anymore. However the formula definitely gets a thumbs up from me and if you're interested in trying liquid lipsticks but dread the thick, flaky formulas - this line is for you!

Rating: 9/10 - knocking off one point because sometimes I have to apply two layers to get an even coat, I don't know if its because the shade isn't too far off my natural lip colour, or if its just the formula? Anyways, not a biggie but worth noting.

Repurchase? Yes I would repurchase committed, like I said it's rare to find a shade which I can pull off alone without a bunch of other products and this works so well for every single day ^_^

So much so that I included it in my May faves too.

LOTW | Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Lipstick in Everything Nice

Hello everybody! I hope you had a great week. I have really enjoyed this week's LOTW, it's the first one I've tried from Gerard Cosmetics and I featured it in this haul. It's the shade Everything Nice, which I described as one of the most perfect shades for me ever. It's still a tad dark for me to feel comfortable to wear at home, but perhaps that's because I'm so used to wearing lighter nude shades! Anyway it's been great testing out another formula of liquid lipstick and I am a big fan.

Price: I purchased mine from BeautyBay for £9.50, which I think is a great price for a liquid lipstick! However this shade is currently out of stock, thus nowhere to be seen on site. Keep an eye out for it, unless you're really wanting to pick it up, in which case you can purchase it on cocktail cosmetics for £13.00.

Packaging: The outer packaging I really like, the frosted bottle looks classy and the golden lid looks just as lovely. I also think the box it comes in is pretty nice too (not that you'll keep that for long, but it's worth throwing in the review haha). I like the doefoot, it's small enough to have precision and holds enough product in one 'dip' to cover all my lips. The issue I have with the bottle though, is that it doesn't have any sort of stopper. So when you're pulling out the wand too much product comes out = messsssy. It's not a major issue by any means, but it would be nice if they could sort it out.

L: Natural light R: Flash

Colour: Everything nice is an odd colour to swatch, and an odd colour in general, because it always comes out a lot darker on the skin and can actually change tone too..l.et me explain. So when I purchased this and 1995, I was a kinda disappointed because I swatched them both next to each other and they looked very similar! D: However when applied to the lips, the best description I can give you is that Everything Nice is the perfect neutral mix of brown and peach. It's soft, flattering and suits my warm skintone beautifully. HOWEVER, this is very important to mention here, if you go to reapply this and there is still some of the lipstick left on your lips, the shade that you will get is a good deal darker than the initial shade when first applied. I do find this a bit annoying, because if you're eating oily food and half of it comes off, it's kind of a struggle to reapply the perfect shade that it is. The best thing to do, is remove all of it entirely and then reapply, but all liquid lipsticks require an oil based remover to actually get rid of them completely...I can't be carrying around oil in my bag y'know?!

Formula and Lasting time: The formula is of course that of a liquid lipstick, it isn't as thick or creamy as the Stila formula, however it is just as pigmented which I love. I tend to apply one layer to my bottom lip, press my lips together and then add in the small areas I've missed. This doesn't dry within 10 seconds, I'd say it takes at least 40-50 to properly set and its 90% transfer proof. I find that without eating or drinking heavy oily foods, this will last nicely for about 7 hours before it starts showing signs of wear. When I do have oily food though, it begins disappearing which is normal and expected. I don't find this formula to be very drying, however as with any liquid lipstick formula out there, to a certain extent they will dry out the lips a little. I don't find this sits in the lines on my lips, or accentuates dryness, instead it glides on smoothly, with an opaque finish which looks beautiful.

Favourite way to wear it: I line my lips with Rimmel's Tiramisu, one of my favourite neutral lipliners for sure! I like lining my lips first, so I have a guide on where to apply the liquid lipstick, however I have worn it alone plenty of times, with a fairly neat application.

Overall: I have had a pretty positive experience with this formula and the shade itself is gorgeous! It's my ideal everyday kind of shade, however I wish the colour would remain consistent instead of changing if reapplied. That is a little frustrating for sure. Because of this I would only wear this out for a shopping trip, or a visit to a family member's house. It's not really something I can keep in my bag and reapply, on a long day out.

Available from: Beautybay and Cocktail cosmetics!

Rating: 7/10 - it would be a 9 if the colour stayed the same ☹️

Repurchase? Despite my annoyance with the colour changing, the shade itself is so beautiful and I do think it's hard to find colours that flatter my skintone alone, without the need to mix a couple together. For that reason I would repurchase - which shows how much I love the colour, because that's not to say I don't have my frustrations with this product. However the colour is just THAT good that I can excuse the reapplication issue.

LOTW | IMAN Cosmetics Luxury Lipstick in Babydoll

Hello everyone! I hope you've all had a great week. I've spent most of mine at work, trying to catch up on the hours I missed during all the stress that was third year! My lipstick of the week was one mentioned in this haul, the IMAN Luxury Moisturising Lipstick in Baby Doll* which I actually picked out myself. I can't believe how perfect this shade is, yaaaaaaaaaas!

Price: £12.99 This is a very mid ranged lipstick and I think it is priced just right. The formula, as well as the unique and very flattering nude shade makes it worth the money and I will definitely be repurchasing.
IMAN Cosmetics Luxury Lipstick in Babydoll review and swatch

Colour: This is the most perfect nude shade I have ever come across for my medium skin tone! I am generally a fan of pinkier shades for nude lipsticks, as the more orange coloured ones tend to look odd against my light brown skin - they normally clash! In the swatch below, it's coming out a little more orange than it appears on my lips - I think that's because my lips are pretty pigmented. ‘Babydoll’ is the perfect mix of nude/peach and brown, which looks so flattering on my medium skin and it doesn’t wash me out in the slightest. I normally wear it with Rimmel’s Tiramisu lip liner and it’s the perfect shade for everyday, going to work, popping to the shops, or even pairing with more of a smokey eye. I am such a huge fan of this shade and could not be happier to have it in my collection.

Formula and Lasting time: The formula is satin/creamy and glides on like a dream! One swipe is also enough pigmentation for me, which I'm a huge fan of, although you can build it up for a more opaque look. This lipstick is so comfortable to wear, it feels almost like a balm and I have to say after wearing liquid lipsticks for a while I've missed wearing something so light and comfy! Lasting time is pretty standard for a lippie with this formula, it's around 2.5 hours before it's faded.

Favourite way to wear it: I like lining my lips with a neautral lip liner, usually the Rimmel Tiramisu and then I apply this, one layer for medium coverage, two for fuller coverage. Finally a colour and lipstick I can just wear ALONE without mixing!

Overall: I am so glad I picked this lipstick up! Finally I have a nude shade for my complexion which I don't need to mix up with other shades. The packaging is stunning, black and gold, with a clear screen on the lid. The lid is also very secure and I think this lipstick is fantastic value for money. As IMAN Cosmetics is a brand specifically created for women of colour, you can really see that they have put a lot of thought into the shades and I only wish I had discovered this sooner!

Available from: the UK Iman website here or currently on sale on feelunique here!

Rating: 9/10 - I just wish these lipsticks were easily available in stores so I could swatch the other shades rather than relying on online swatches.

Repurchase? Yes 100%! I know I was gifted this, but that's when you know that a product is really great - when you know you're gonna have to repurchase!

Have you tried this range of lipsticks? Have you found the perfect nude lippie for you?

LOTW | Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist (07)

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist (07) review and swatch

Hello everyone! I am officially finished with University!!! Woooohooo! Excuse the lateness of this post, but I had to get the last of Uni done before I could get properly stuck into blogging again. Anyway I know I've been gone for a while, so naturally I've been wearing more than just one lipstick of the week, however I've been rotating between a couple so that when I did eventually get back to my blog I'd have some posts to share. Now you may remember the first time I featured one of these Rouge Edition Velvets on my blog (post here) and I was just not very impressed. I won't go back into the reasons, but in short I found it didn't stay put and to be honest that colour in particular just wasn't my cup of tea either. Also I was probably applying too much product, one of my lovely readers suggested I wipe off more of the product before applying it, as it is a wetter/creamy formula and a little means it'll kind of dry faster.

Price: This range costs £8.99 each, which is pretty pricy for a highstreet product! But I suppose if you compare it to high end matte lipsticks, it's not TOO bad.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist (07) review and swatch

Colour: This shade is called Nude-ist and it was a little bit annoying because it's one of those shade names which just doesn't quite match the colour. Nude-ist is very much a pink shade, it has a touch of peach in it, but to me it is not a nude shade at all. It's actually a beautiful colour for the springtime, a step away from my typical mauvy shades, it's brighter and has a definite pink tone to it. I just wish they had been a little more honest or precise with the name, but since checking online I've seen that they've actually created a nude shade which looks gorgeous (it's called cool brown) so I'm not TOO annoyed haha.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist (07) review and swatch

Formula and Lasting time: Like I said earlier, this is a creamy mosey kind of formula. It's comfortable on the lips, however it doesn't really dry down in a hurry. It takes about an hour to dry down and the it becomes more of a stain on the lips. To me this isn't a liquid lipstick, but it's definitely longer lasting than a typical lipstick in a bullet form. I've only worn this particular shade alone a couple of times, so lasting time alone is probably similar to the first shade I tried (3.5 hours - 4 hours before fading slightly).

Favourite way to wear it: I love mixing this with lighter liquid lipsticks, in particular the Stila range. I recently purchased another shade, which I'll be sharing with you all very soon and I'm also thinking of doing a post with all my favourite lip colours of the moment (including mixes, because sometimes mixing two colours together creates the most PERFECT tone for my own skintone). You can also manipulate the shade by applying a darker or lighter lip liner all over the lips, which works pretty well. Currently I am wearing this over Rimmel's Tiramisu and I really like the outcome!

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist (07) review and swatch

Overall: I had a much more positive experience with nude-ist, despite the slightly misleading name. I have found it comfortable to wear, it doesn't dry out my lips much at all, although with any type of formula that dries down you have to expect that a little. When I apply a lot less than I was using before I find it much more manageable and also I really like how versatile it is. It mixes quite well with actual liquid lipsticks, though this process is is trial and error as LL's have a typically more liquid formula (of course), but it's not rocket science haha. I also like the doefoot applicator, I find there is a lot of control with it and it's comfortable to apply with. I will get a lot more use out of this shade than the other one, so I'm glad I have it in my stash but in all honesty it's not a must have shade for me and if it disappeared from my collection I wouldn't rush out to buy it. I am going to be picking up the shade cool brown, now I know i can make the formula work (less is more ladies!).

Available from: ASOS, FeelUnique currently on sale, Boots & Superdrug!

Rating: 7/10

Repurchase? No, it's pretty but there are a tonne of lip products on my to buy list and this isn't unique enough for a repurchase. Since my ban I have seen how much I own and how much I actually use each lipstick, so to be honest unless I can't stop using a product because I love it that much, I'm going to be a lot less frivolous with these repurchases!

Have you tried any of these shades? Which is your favourite?

LOTW | Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Barely There

Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Barely There review and swatch

Hello dear readers, it's been quite a while since I've posted a LOTW hasn't it? I haven't really been focusing on just one lipstick a week, if any at all since final year has been in full swing. If I've worn makeup it's usually been for a special occasion, or I've simply opted for lip-balm. However Sleek's lipstick in 'Barely There' was the last one that I chose and I've been trying to make it work on and off. On the first few wears it was just too bright and peachy against my skintone, but at the same time it made quite the lovely change to my usual mauves and rosy shades that I tend to favour.

Price: £4.99

Colour: Barely There, unlike the name suggests is an opaque peachy/coral shade. With just a swipe or two, it looks bright on the lips and easily masks darker, pigmented lips. Some lipsticks don't look true to colour unless you put foundation over the lips, which allows the shade to be seen clearly. Now I understand why this range is called 'true colour' because the colour of the lipstick in the bullet is exactly what you get on the lips ^_^

Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Barely There review and swatch

Formula and Lasting time: The formula is super creamy and comfortable to wear. This is one of the 'sheen' formulas in the line, so it sits comfortably on the lips with ease. As it is so moisturising it lasts well for about 1.5-2 hours before it has completely faded and needs reapplying. This is increased a little when a lipliner is used beforehand, but due to the formula it's just one of those lipsticks that does require reapplication.

Favourite way to wear it: Like I mentioned, I don't like wearing this with one or two swipes. The colour is too opaque, too bright and too much of a clash against my medium skin-tone. I did however find one way to make it look nice, literally dabbing it on lightly and then pressing my lips together. This light wash of colour looks beautiful for the spring-time, and I like to line my lips with my favourite Make up For Ever Aqua Lip in 2C. The swatch on the right hand side shows how much lighter the colour appears if used very lightly - quite pretty right!

Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Barely There review and swatch

Overall: I'm glad I found a way to make this lipstick work and although I'm not usually one for such a peachy/coral nude, it's a lovely fresh look for the spring time. However it's not the kind of lipstick I can just whip out from my bag and apply, I have to use a liner before and usually after too in order to add some definition. I've had this lipstick in my stash for almost  two years and the reason I haven't used even half of it, is it just takes a little too much effort for me to be satisfied with the colour. If the longevity was longer, I would probably reach for it more, however the awkward colour and fast fading time mean it's just not all that special to me. The formula and how comfortable it is, does make the lipstick one of the best in the highstreet though and I think if you have a light skintone, this would be a beautiful spring/summer shade to throw in your bag and add life to your face with little effort.

Rating: 6/10

Repurchase? No, I haven't used it enough in the long time that I've had it. A nice formula, but the colour just isn't for me.
