Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette Review + YT Video

Hello everyone! Todays review is on the new Huda beauty mini 'obsession' eyeshadow palettes...well specifically the one in warm brown. She has four palettes, all with a distinctively different theme and they cost £25 for 10g of product.

This is my first ever experience using her shadows and in general I've not tried a lot of the products from her brand. I own the mini liquid lipstick set and I was very pleasantly surprised by the formula and the shades. However, to me her brand is more on the luxury side of things, which means I'm not going to pick up an item here or there on a whim, I want to be really sure that my money is being well spent. Her previous two palettes have had mixed reviews, but the main reason why I didn't purchase them was because of the price and the guilt! When one owns as many single shadows as I do, you might be able to understand...😅

The £25 pricetag felt a lot more affordable, and when you do the maths each shadow is costs you £2.77, which really isn't too bad. One MUG single shadow is £4.95 and one ABH shadow in any of her latest palettes cost around £3. So technically you're getting good value for money, when compared to similar quality shadows.

My full review can be watched here:

And the swatches of the palette are below -

As you can see, this is a very warm toned palette. Perhaps only the slightly cool toned shade is the middle darker brown, however even that has clear warm undertones! I like that she has given us a few different transition/crease shades and I can definitely achieve more of a deeper look from the two darker shadows too. The 'red' shade as you can tell by the one on the far right, is a lot brighter than one would expect, so that is a little disappointing. My favourite shadow is the central gold one, which has her 'textured' formula - it is so buttery and creamy! I'm sure, when worn with a base, it'll look absolutely gorgeous. I'm also particularly happy with the cream shade, because I actually don't have enough in my collection, despite it being a shade I reach for a lot as a base and for under the brow bone - the pigmentation is applaudable!

Packaging, is okay, nothing special - but the mirror inside is very much appreciated and the magnetic closing seems very secure, so overall it gets a thumbs up from me.

I think this whole mini colour theme is really smart, because in reality her options for colour combinations are endless! I can imagine a greens, blues, yellows version of this and since the price point is semi-affordable, I know it'll be a success - Huda is one smart lady.

Overall rating: 8/10

Pros: Pretty affordable and decent value for money, pigmented, buttery, creamy, pigmented, blendable, colours I'm actually going to use often! Mirror, sturdy cardboard packaging, cutest most portable size ever.

Cons: I think it would have been nice to have two textured shadows, since 1/9 isn't super versatile....but that's about it!

Repurchase: Yes, since I don't have many of these shades which surprised me, plus I know I'll get a lot of use out of it ^_^

Have you tried out any of her shadows? Larger palettes or smaller? What are your thoughts?

My Must Have Makeup Geek Shadows | For Brown Gals

my must have makeup geek eyeshadows for asian skintones, brown girls

Hello lovely people, I hope you're doing well. Today I am going to be sharing my favourite Makeup geek eyeshadows with you, these are the ones I've had for a good few weeks and I have loved the most. I will be doing a full eyeshadow collection and swatch post, as well as a makeup geek starter kit but all in due time. I wanted to kick off my MUG posts with my favourites, the ones that should my whole collection go missing God forbid, I would want to repurchase immediately and these are also the shadows (from what I've tried so far) that look best on a brown/medium complexion. Now I'm not too happy with my swatches, but I tried to get them as accurate in colour as possible so I hope they're still helpful!

Also you may have noticed the 'For Brown Gals' in the title, so I hereby welcome you to a brand new series on my blog - these posts are totally for every single skintone, but especially for my fellow olive/brownskinned girls who want makeup recommendations that are catered to them. I will be doing a couple of these posts here and there from now on ^_^

makeup geek creme brulee, tiki hut, frappe, tuscan sun review and swatch

When I asked on twitter how you guys would like these swatches, with or without primer the general consensus was both. So I have put a line of primer on top (the milani eyeshadow primer £5.99 which is a dupe of the Urban Decay and Too Faced one so I've heard) and as you can see the line went a bit wonky haha. I hope you can also see that primer makes a pretty big difference with the matte shades in the swatches, even though these mattes are great when applied alone on the lids! For some reason bare skin one-swipe swatches don't do them justice at all, which is why I wanted to show the colour with a base underneath as I usually always use one. All in all makeup geek eyeshadows show up well with one swipe of the brush which is why I love them. I should also mention that although I do highly recommend this primer, half the time I'll end up using a concealer instead, so long as it brightens up the lid and gives the shadow something to stick to, it works ^_^

makeup geek creme brulee, tiki hut, frappe, tuscan sun review and swatch

The Crease Shades

Creme Brulee (£6.00): This is the shade most of you will have seen on YouTube over and over, it was one of the shades that was top of my wishlist. It has not disappointed me in the slightest, I use this almost every single time I wear eyeshadow, because it is the most perfect crease/transition shade to ever exist. I never could quite understand why so many girls raved about it, but trust me this is the type of colour to make your eyeshadow look go from a 3 to a 7, if you were judging it in numbers! A sweep of this in the crease helps other colours blend seemlessly and look as if you've spent a long time on the eyes, which is why its effortless and a total essential for me.

Tiki Hut (£6.00): Tiki hut is one of the newer shades that was released this summer and the formula reflects that, very pigmented and it blends like a dream. I would describe Tiki Hut as a medium brown shade with a mix of dark yellow, which makes it an amazing crease shade. It's a little more on the warm side, but could easily be used with a cool eyeshadow look to add some depth. I am very much a neutral girl, so these colours which are a little off the standard browns, really excite me as they add so much even though they look like nothing special in the swatches haha.

Frappe (£6.00): This shade is a must have with creme brulee, the two are like inseparable sisters I usually always use them together! Frappe is a warm toned brown which has a tiny tiny hint of pink. It is a lot warmer than Tiki Hut, but it's not darker if that makes sense, so you can apply a wash of frappe all over the crease and then apply a brighter/ligher shade all over the lid et voila you are good to go! So basically frappe is another one of those basic looking shades that I can't imagine not owning now, its great for adding a little bit of warmth along the lower-lashline for a day-time look too. However my primary reason for loving this shade, is just how effortless it is in the crease, clearly I am using the word effortless a lot in this post thus far - but thats what you want in a crease shade!

Tuscan Sun (£6.00): This is the only shade that didn't come out very clearly in the swatch above, boo! So I'll describe it as more of a subtle dusky shade and I adore this so much! Another one of the newer shadows for the MUG summer collection, tuscan sun is the most beautiful warm shade I have ever used in my crease. When I first purchased it I wasn't sure that I would be getting a lot of use out of it, however just a little tap of the blending brush and a sweep in the crease and it makes your eyeshadow look appear a lot more complex than just a simple brown (or creme brulee!). Another favourite way to wear this shade is to apply it happhazardly all over the crease area with a large blending brush and then taken a smaller more precise brush, loaded with frappe and blend it more precisely into the crease itself. It takes about 30 seconds but again looks so beautifully blended out, without any hard work!

makeup geek magic act, grandstand, goddess and venom review and swatch

Moving onto the bolder lid shades, these were really hard to photograph and swatch accurately (this particular photo is like my 38927743 attempt), but I think I've just about got it! Some of these are the foiled eyeshadows which do cost a little more so thats why I've included prices. However each of these four are amazingly pigmented, like one swipe wonders and so buttery to apply on the lids.

Magic Act (£9.25): Okay I know I just said I got these swatches right🙄, but Magic Act is a lot more of a true gold and that is why I ADORE IT. If you know me, you know I love a good gold shade because that pop of shine is everything, especially on a medium skintone/brown eyes. What I really like about this shade, aside from the creamy foiled formula, is how it blends so beautifully with lots of shades, browns, greens, reds, khakis etc. Its literally the perfect gold shade, not too cool or too orange...I LAVE IT. I do tend to apply this with my ring finger as the warmth of my finger seems to pick on the most pigment over a brush.

Grandstand (£9.25): This is a gorgeous rich rose gold mixed with brown and again the formula is second to none, totally worth the extra £3 because the pigment packs a punch. Grandstand makes for a stunning base colour if you are creating a brown smokey eye, or you can just pack it onto the outer half of the lid for some extra omph and a bit of depth during the day time. I haven't used this shade much so far, but I know I will get a lot of use out of this pan because the shade is just so stunning and very wearable.

Goddess (£6.00): This is a shade from their standard line and it isn't as metallic as the two above, nor as pigmented as their newer shades, but for quite a strong colour this makes it a lot more wearable in my opinion. I adore this colour, which I'd describe as a dark copper shade which looks incredible used alone or with one transition shade if you fancy a little more depth. Again a perfect shade for medium skintones, and if you have brown eyes you simply NEED this colour in your life, its the one wash wonder I'll be using all summer long, with just a simple pop of highlight in the inner corner. I have quite a few of the copper/orange/red shades from MUG and I will be doing an indepth comparison post, but this so far is definitely my favourite and it really stands out if you apply it with a damp brush too.

Venom (£6.00): And finally the most 'out there' shade from my must-haves, which won't be everyones cuppa tea - venom is the most gorgeous, richly pigmented dark moss green shade with a very subtle golden shimmer. I honestly thought this shade was one of the foiled finishes when I first opened it, because it is super duper pigmented. Now venom is not the easiest shade to wear obviously, but I feel like once I watch enough tutorials I'll become confident enough to wear this at least a couple of times a month haha. This tutorial has seriously inspired me, look how beautiful!! Anyway if you're as big of a fan as green as I am, then you should definitely pick this up ^_^

makeup geek wild west, pretentious, cocoa bear and mocha review and swatch

And the final four, I call these shades the 'deepening/depth' shades, which are essential for adding a little more definition to any looks in my opinion. I have a mix of cool and warm tones here and I enjoy using them all equally.

Wild West (£6.00): Another one of the newer shades, I love wild west because it is such a unique muted kind of shade. A hint of brown, but more plum-like, which makes it really lovely for a 'gentle smoke' (a bit of definition without getting too dramatic y'know?). It's so different to your average dark brown or even black, which is why its in my must haves because again its a lovely versatile shade.

Pretentious (£6.00): this is not strictly a deepening up shade, but there wasn’t any room for it in the other two, so here it went! Pretentious is a beautiful antique/bronze shade which is one of my go-tos for all over the lid. Again its a shade that I love against my olive skin tone and brown eyes, either used alone as a one wash shade or used for more of an intricate look with deeper matte browns. Seriously a must have (this shade also looks GORGEOUS with a damp brush by the way - thats the only way you'll get a colour like the one in the swatch I have found!).

Cocoa Bear (£6.00): Another shade which is raved about over and over on YouTube, and for very good reason! CB is the perfect brown shade in my eyes, very warm toned and beautifully pigmented/blendable. It's my go-to shade for smoking out the lower lashline, even for a day to day look which makes a change for me, but I just cannot get enough of how beautiful it looks! Seriously one of the most beautiful browns ever created, that touch of red adds so much depth to any eyelook. I also love pairing this up with cream brulee for a really simple, warm eyeshadow look, that takes me about 30 seconds to create but it looks a lot more complex!

Mocha (£6.00): And last but not least, OF COURSE I had to include a standard deep matte brown! I adore smoking out my lower lashline with mocha, its the perfect neutral dark brown in my opinion and it looks beautiful on the lower and upper lash line. I am definitely a black-liner kind of girl every single day, however if I do fancy a bit of a softer and more sultry look I'll reach for mocha on a small pencil brush and use it instead. Its an essential because it creates so much depth to my eyeshadow looks and it's a colour that can take you from day-to-night, with no issues whatsoever!

There you have it ladies! MY personal must-haves, although these aren't all shades I reach for on a regular basis, they're the ones that I absolutely adore and would repurchase instantly. I will be doing a MUG starter shadow post, which'll include the shades I think everyone needs (especially those of you with an olive/brown complexion). I am in the process of reviewing and swatching every shade in colour families, so keep an eye out!

My Z Palette ft. Sleek

Z Palette with Sleek Eyeshadows

Hello everyone,  apologies for the second palette post in a row but I wanted to share another way to make your own custom palette and although it was a bit of a faff it’s been so worth it! I LOVE Sleek eyeshadow palettes, they are some of the best on the market and worth a lot more than the £7.99 price tag. The Ultra Mattes palette was the first ever eyeshadow palette I got from my 17th birthday and since then my collection has rapidly grown, including a few beautiful limited edition palettes. The only problem I have with them is they all look the same from the outside, so when stored away and stacked neatly its hard to distinguish one from the other - meaning that unless its a special occasion I rarely reach for them. They just weren’t getting enough love, so when I saw that my lovely fellow ethical blogger (and talented MUA) Tamanna had made her own custom Z palette I couldn’t help but be inspired to do the same!

Z Palette with Sleek Eyeshadows
I bought my Z Palette from Lovemakeup for £15.99 (I’m sure there was some sort of discount code I used though) and you can get the same thing from beautybay for £15.95. What is so appealing about these palettes are the clear window making it easy to see exactly what is inside, as well as the magnetic backing. You can purchase shadows from MUG and Inglot and slot them in here with ease, as well as move them about. The magnetic lid is very sturdy and keeps products safe and protected. Also you can pretty much put ANYTHING that is in a pan in here. I have seen the coolest wet’n’wild collections in Z palettes, in a rainbow order as well as blushers and bronzers that have been depotted. This saves space and allows a lot of your collection to be condensed into one place meaning you will actually get a lot more use out of it! If I spot any random sales from beautybay I’ll be picking some more up to hopefully make a blusher palette too.

Z Palette with Sleek Eyeshadows

The issue with Sleek palettes is that the pans are not magnetic, meaning you’ll have to stick a bit of magnet sticker onto each pan. A long and slightly annoying process to say the least but the Z palettes come with plenty of magnetic stickers making it worth the price. (I ended up cutting the stickers in halves, making things even more tedious but I got there in the end). I won’t be explaining how I went about depotting the eyeshadows, as you can read how to in Tamanna’s post here which is very useful ^_^
However I’ll offer you two bits of advice:
1. Be patient, especially when trying to get the black packaging off it takes ages and can be a little painful too ._.
2. It’s a messy process, so wear old clothes and cover surfaces well.
Z Palette with Sleek Eyeshadows

You have to be really really careful when trying to depot and it’s almost unavoidable to smash a couple of shadows in the process. I ended up fixing a couple with surgical spirit (an alternative to rubbing alcohol) but also I chucked out duplicates, as most sleek palettes come with a black shadow and I only needed one. Although the fixed shadows don't look as good, like that beautiful purple/maroon shade on the right, they still work just as well. I also have in the top right corner a bronzer sample from Birchbox, which luckily is already in a magnetic pan. That shade is a brilliant transition colour for the crease (Lord and Berry - Sunny).

Z Palette with Sleek Eyeshadows

Since making this palette, I have used the shadows over and over again. It’s so useful having a couple of palettes combined together and being able to order the shades in their colour families. Sleek eyeshadows are very pigmented and blend together easily. A little goes a long way and having so many shades in one place means I really do use them a tonne more! In this palette I have at (most of the shadows from) the Au Natural Palette, the Oh So Special Palette - reviewed here, the Vintage Romance Palette and a few of the shadows from the Ultra Mattes 2 palette.

I highly highly recommend getting your hands on a Z palette if you have a couple of eyeshadow palettes that you just don’t seem to reach for enough, or if you have lots of singles/duos. Putting them in one palette will mean you are definitely going to be using them more! Plus its like your own unique custom palette, without spending a tonne on buying new shadows ^_^

My Inglot Freedom System Palette

Ingot freedom palette review 5 palette 313, 155, 357, 42, 327 eyeshadows

Since I first saw the custom Inglot palettes I knew that one day I had to make my own. With a HUGE selection of colours to choose from, the possibilities were endless and to create your own palette with colours you know you’ll actually use is perfect. The trouble is the nearest Inglot store to me is...well not all that near, so when I did finally get the chance to visit one, years later (sounds dramatic but its true lol) I jumped at the chance to create my own! Actually seeing all the shadows in-front of me was both exciting and slightly overwhelming, it took a good half an hour to settle on the shades I wanted. I knew I was going to put together a neutrals palette because lets be honest, they’re the shades I reach for the most and I have to say I’m over the moon with my final palette. From the beautiful, sturdy, magnetic design to the fantastic quality of the shadows, I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Ingot freedom palette review 5 palette 313, 155, 357, 42, 327 eyeshadows

There are a variety of palettes that you can create from a full 40 pan, 20 pan, 10 pan, 5 pan, 4 pan, duo and single pans. There are also other mix and match sizes and you can see the whole selection here. I didn’t want to invest in a 10 pan because it was rather a large amount to spent (the palette itself costs £12.00 and then each shadow cost £5.00 each making the total amount of a 10 pan adding up to £62!). Instead I opted for the 5 pan, which costs £8 and they had a deal on in store where they charge £30 in total for the palette and shadows - you only save £3 but hey that’s still something. The whole idea of the freedom system is that you can mix and match eyeshadows, blushers, concealers and essentially have the freedom to create a custom palette which works best for you. Each of the freedom system palettes are sleek, matte and look so good! I like the fact that the lid of the palette is made of frosted glass, making it easy to see the colours if you have several in your collection. They can also be easily stacked due to the magnetic design which is a great feature for makeup artists and it shows real thought has been put behind the design. The shadows come separately packaged and you can slot them in whatever order you prefer. The single shadows cost £5 and you can also purchase the ‘rainbow’ range which cost £6.50 and have an ombre of one colour (eg. deep orange, mid tone orange and light orange).

Ingot freedom palette review 5 palette 313, 155, 357, 42, 327 eyeshadows

The palettes are reusable, making them environmentally friendly, although its a little bit of a mission to actually get the pans out! I got home and quickly tore the packaging off, putting the pans in the order I wanted....only to realise I hadn’t written out the numbers of the shadows .___. which was a silly mistake. I then had to try and gently prise the pans out from the palette, without damaging the shadows and it took a couple of YouTube videos and a lot of patience to finally get them out. Won’t be making that mistake again! The eyeshadows are all numbered which is a shame, they could have come up with creative names instead, but they matched each to a number (and they don’t exactly seem to be ordered in any way??). Each eyeshadow pan contains 2.3g which is almost double the size of MAC’s and they cost half the price! Most of you will know I’m boycotting MAC anyway, but even before I started boycotting them I despised the amount they charged for their shadows. The quality of Inglot shadows are just as, if not better than MAC’s and you are given a huge array of choice.

Ingot freedom palette review 5 palette 313, 155, 357, 42, 327 eyeshadows

On to MY eyeshadow palette (finally) - from left to right we have 313, 155, 357, 42 and 327.
Although these shadows are all decently pigmented alone - I never wear eyeshadow without a concealer/base first so I decided to swatch each shadow alone once and then over a base right next to it (the essence I heart stage base was the one was used here).

Ingot freedom palette review 5 palette 313, 155, 357, 42, 327 eyeshadows

313 - The perfect base colour, I always dust some shadow over my eyelids no matter what as I conceal the darkness and this shadow does is great for setting it in place. It is a light yellow/ cream colour, a few shades lighter than my skintone and it brightens up my eyes when worn alone. It also makes any colour over the top stand out brighter too. As you can see the base really makes this pop, so a little goes a long way. It’ll probably be the first shadow I repurchase as I use it almost every day. Also it makes a superb brow bone highlight.

155 - I am a huge fan of gold eyeshadows, they compliment brown eyes beautifully and the moment I swatched this I knew I had to have it. 155 is a ‘shine’ type of shadow and its again a yellow/warm based gold colour which is flattering all over the lid, yet also not too dark on my olive skintone to add a pop of colour on the inner-corner. Though its a gold shadow it’s not too striking, which means its more versatile and wearable than a more true-golden shade. My favourite way to wear it is in the inner third of the eye, it adds just enough shimmer and glitz without going over-board for a day-to-day look.

357 - This is the shade I picked up as my go-to crease shade. It is a medium toned brown which has a slight coolness to it. Interestingly, though this is also a matte shade it does seem to change in colour over a base, so you can certainly build it up. I like how the grey in the shade adds a shadow like effect without losing the warmth. Though quite different from the shade salted caramel (too faced chocolate bar palette) which is a wonderful crease shade too, this is a firm favourite. On a standard day I’ll run a little of this through the crease, with 313 as the base and voila I have a perfect matte eye, with no effort at all. It does what I wanted it to do, with a little going a long way so I’ve barely made a dent in it at all.

42 - I wanted to get a shimmery/shine brown shade and 42 is absolutely beautiful. A rich, earthy brown with a bronzy undertone. It is the perfect shade to accompany 155, these two were made for each other! I love this shade for adding more warmth and a touch of darkness, or packed over most of the lid as it’s so versatile. It’s actually appearing lighter in the swatch then it does on my eyelids but it is buildable so it has many uses. Sometimes I like to add a tiny bit and smoke out my bottom lashline and because its not too dark, it doesn’t look super intense!

327 - The final shade I picked up is a dark matte brown, with a pinch of coolness to it. It is perfect for turning a day look to a night look. Highly buildable, so a little can add some great definition to the crease, or you can build a full on smoky eye with this shade. Applied under the lower lash line, it adds more depth and definition and I also like to use this instead of eyeliner for a softer look. When travelling with this palette, I had to use this shade as a brow powder and it looked, surprisingly, really great as it’s not too warm, yet you still only need a little to fill in the sparseness. So its great to know that, if I leave the ABH pomade at home, my brows can still have some structure! Overall another fantastic versatile, deeply pigmented shade.

This post is super super long, but I hope it has been useful for you! I believe the Inglot freedom system palette is one of the best custom palettes/ranges around. You get real bang for your buck as they say, with almost double the amount of product from other companies, for such a cheap price. The range of shades available is phenomenal, and there is a great consistency across the range in terms of quality. They blend together with ease and a little goes a long way meaning these will last me for ages. With a base each of these shades are highly pigmented and I must say the colours I put together work wonderfully. I’ve been using it consistency since I bought it and though I have enough palettes in my collection to keep me satisfied, when I next want to make a custom palette Inglot is the place I will be visiting!

They also have a pretty cool feature where you can do a virtual make over where you can pick a model (or upload your own face) and then choose colours and see how they look on the virtual model, which is vaguely like playing one of those strange makeover games but it’s pretty accurate! I wish there were more Inglot stores widely available though, as I do think swatching the shadows in person is an important part of making your own palette, so when you next get the chance be prepared to spend a good half an hour or so indulging yourself in the huge selection!

Have you tried the Inglot Freedom Palette Range?

Review | Essence Stays No Matter What Jumbo Eye Pencil - 05 Cute Copper & 08 Chocolate Brownie

essence Stays No Matter What Jumbo Eye Pencil - 05 Cute Copper & 08 Chocolate Brownie review and swatch

Hello everyone! Today I’m going to be reviewing these jumbo pencils from Essence which I first featured in this haul. I purchased them from Wilko and they cost me £1.50 each - I know, INSANE! It was literally love at first swatch and for that price I could hardly say no could I??

essence Stays No Matter What Jumbo Eye Pencil - 05 Cute Copper & 08 Chocolate Brownie review and swatch

The packaging is that of a standard jumbo pencil, and yes you do have to sharpen these. As you can see the writing has faded a lot which reminds me of the collection lasting perfection concealer, cheap and cheerful so I’m not surprised.

These are not quite as creamy as the Rimmel Scandaleyes version, however they are more pigmented and it doesn’t take much for the colour to show up. The formula does set pretty quickly, but you can just about blend out the edges for a quick smoky eye if you wish.  I primarily use both of them as an eyeshadow base, alone they last a decent 7-8 hours on my eyelids, but underneath eyeshadow they stay put and prolong shadow wear time for at least 10 hours, which for the price is pretty wonderful!

Cute Copper 05 is GORGEOUS, if you have brown eyes you need this shade in your life because it makes my eye colour stand out so beautifully! A somewhat metalic(ish) copper colour with hints of gold shimmer which don’t look tacky, they simply catch the sunlight and look like you’ve put a lot more effort into your eye-makeup then a simple swipe! I apply this all over and then add a darker brown shadow in the outer corner of the eyelid, pop some eyeliner on and I’m good to go. The speed of application is another great plus point.

Chocolate Brownie 08 is less metallic, but as you can see it does have a slight copper undertone which is (again) perfect for brown eyes, although I imagine these two would look stunning on green and hazel eyes too. I love to use chocolate brownie on the lower lash line, or if I’m feeling really fancy, I smudge a little where I would normally do a winged liner.

I think these are phenomenal for the price, they’re versatile, easy to use and these two colours in particular are perfect. I know they also do a green, blue, black and white but I’m not sure I’d get enough use out of them to add to my collection.

Overall Rating
Rating: 9

Pros: Highly pigmented, great as eyeshadow bases, last a decent amount of time alone, both colours are stunning for brown eyes in particular but cute copper with its slight golden undertone is just breath taking! Super affordable and quick to use.
Cons: You have to sharpen it, the writing come off the packaging.

Repurchase? Yes I would 100% buy these again - you just can’t go wrong at that price ^_^

essence Stays No Matter What Jumbo Eye Pencil - 05 Cute Copper & 08 Chocolate Brownie review and swatch

Hello everyone! Today I’m going to be reviewing these jumbo pencils from Essence which I first featured in this haul. I purchased them from Wilko and they cost me £1.50 each - I know, INSANE! It was literally love at first swatch and for that price I could hardly say no could I??

Inner-corner highlights

inner corner highlights the blushing giraffe

I remember the first time I inner-corner highlighted...it was a sparkling moment (hehe). Ok so why bother adding that highlight into the inner corner you ask? Well it helps your whole face look a little brighter, your eyes look bigger and it somehow pulls together the whole eyeshadow look. Of course you don’t always want a shimmery colour in your inner corner, but I think when makeup is neutral and matte, you need a bit of suttin suttin to liven it all up! Especially in the winter time when lighting is gloomy, weather is cold and everything just feels a bit blurgh.

This paired with a nude liner in the waterline will transform your sleepy eyes into bright, sparkling beauties. I’m going to run you through a few of my favourites with links so you can check them out yourselves.

Apologies for the lack of photos in this post, it’s just that frustrating time of the year where photos don’t look right.

MUA Eye Shadow - Shade 1 Pearl: Starting off with the cheapest, this beautifully buttery soft eyeshadow is a stunning bright cross between gold, yellow and pearl. A little of this added into the inner corner and just under the start of the lower-lashline adds light and detracts attention from any under-eye baggage that might be going on! Also with a heft 2g of the stuff for only a quid you won’t be running out any time soon, or will you be denting the purse.

CK Eyeshadow - Tangelo | Link:  Another very budget-friendly option is one of my favourite single eyeshadows of all time, the shade Tangelo. It’s a little less pigmented and less golden than Pearl and so I opt for this on work days or when I’ve not made much of an effort with my makeup, but I just want a little brightening in the eye area. I also love using this all over the lid, which makes its convenient to swish into the inner-corner while I’m at it too. yay 2-in-1

Rimmel Scandaleyes Eye Shadow Stick - 002 Bulletproof Beige | Link: The best way to describe the colour of this is as a ‘light copper’. Light enough to use in the inner-corner anyways! I love the fact that it’s super creamy and the chunkiness of the pencil makes it easy to dab on to the inner-corners where I need it! I normally use this as a base for when I am doing party makeup and need it to last, however it works great alone too as a much more subtle brightener.

The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer | Link: Could a highlighter post ever be complete without this beauty? Of course not! When you want a killer cheek highlight, this is the gal for you, and she works equally well in the inner-corner too. The most creamy, buttery, highly pigmented powder you will ever find in your life, with a golden/pearl like undertone. This one is ONLY an inner-corner highlight for special occasions, because it’s a little too gorgeous to be rocking at uni!

Stila Eyeshadow - Kitten | Link: If Mary-Lou is a little too golden for you, opt for Kitten when you want a intensely pigmented highlighter shade for your inner-corner! Bloggers have raved about this shade and it’s a real beauty - a mix of pink and silver. Personally my favourite shimmery shade from the In the light palette is Bubbly and it would look gorgeous on deeper complexions.

What are your favourite shades to add some sparkle to the inner-corner?

Review | I heart Chocolate Makeup Revolution Eyeshadow Palette

Makeup Revolution is EVERYWHERE right now, and there’s a great reason why most bloggers can’t stop raving about the brand. It’s the new budget makeup option which gives other drugstore brands a real run for their money. Over the past few months I’ve bought a bunch of their products, and today I will be reviewing the I <3 Chocolate eyeshadow palette. Its the only palette I’ve used for the last three weeks, I wouldn’t be exaggerating by saying I’ve fallen head over heels for this.

I Red heart Chocolate Makeup Revolution Eyeshadow Palette | £8

So lets start with the obvious - this is a clear dupe for the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette which is a hefty £45. The makeup revolution palette is only £8, so it certainly is the more affordable and justifiable in comparison, but is it worth buying?

The packaging is SO adorable, in the shape of a chocolate bar with melted parts and all, I actually prefer this to the original! I really appreciate the effort that’s gone into the packaging too, as this as a budget brand, it shows that despite the low price there is still room for creativity and uniqueness. Inside there is a huge mirror which is always a plus with eyeshadow palettes and travelling - who else hates doing their eye-makeup holding a separate mirror?!

The palette contains 16 shades, 6 which are matte, 3 satin with golden shimmers/small glitter and 7 satin shades. The palette as a whole is very much neutral and I am now in the position to say that it is my FAVOURITE drugstore/budget eyeshadow palette of all time. Yes I prefer this to Sleek’s Au Natural and MUA’s Undressed which is HUGE because that one was my 2013 ultimate favourite palette! Oh yeah, this guy is in the top spot, now let me stop rambling and explain why!

I like to apply a bit of eyeshadow whenever I wear makeup (provided I have time of course). This is because I do have dark circles, and I normally conceal my eyelids anyways, which always tends to crease if I don’t had powder. Therefore in an eyeshadow palette I appreciate a ivory/cream matte base shade, light brow type of crease shade, satin gold of some kind and a matte darker brown to add definition. Any other shades are a bonus for when I want to switch it up a little, but when a palette has these 4 I am a very happy girl. The moment I opened and swatched a few of the colours I literally did a happy dance (more like a head and shoulder shuffle but you get the picture!).

As you can see they have named each shade and I love the interesting quirky and generally chocolate related names that they picked!

My everyday  eye makeup with this palette is as follows:

You Need Love (it is a large matte ivory shade, PERFECT for all over the lid and under the brow bone and I adore how they made this shade one of the largest as its certainly the one I’ll hit pan on first!) all over my eyelid, and concentrating more on the inner corner.

Then I take a large fluffy brush and go crazy with Thank Friday which is the most wonderful crease shade for any eye look, its a dusty orange/brown and pulls together all other shades on the lid, whilst adding a little warmth and definition.

I then take a tiny bit of You Need More or Smooth Criminal on a small shader brush and I pack that on in the outer half of the eyelids, being sure to blend it all together with a fluffy brush! More and Chocolate Love are both lovely for adding to the middle of the eyelid or even using the as inner corner highlights and Pleasure Girl is perfect for adding under the lower lashline for a tad more definition.

Swatches of a few random shades, one swipe each and no primer!

In general the matte shades are a little chalky which can be expected of a cheaper shadow, however they’re still nicely pigmented when applied on top of a base. The shimmer shadows are absolutely beautiful, so creamy and very pigmented (hence the happy dance mentioned earlier). The darker shades with the gold flecks have quite a bit of fall out (I’ll never make the mistake to do my base makeup before applying darker shadows!). However they are still wonderfully pigmented!

If I were to recommend a newbie or a drugstore makeup snob one palette, THIS would be it! Thank-you Makeup Revolution, you’ve done a fantastic job once again!

Final Verdict:

Product rating: 8.5

Pros: The best range of colours in a neutral palette! Each eyeshadow is pigmented, the satin ones in particular. The packaging!! The large mirror, the mix of lights and darks, the way the matte ivory shade is the largest making it very useful and I do use that shade every single day!

Cons: After around 7 hours the colours look a little faded. Tested on top of concealer only. I’m yet to invest in a high-end primer.

Repurchase? 100% yes! This has knocked the MUA ones out of the picture, and the vast variety of palettes MUR offer is astounding!

Have you tried any of these amazing palettes? ^_^

Review | Sleek Oh So Special Eyeshadow Palette

sleek-oh-so-special-eyeshadow-palette-review-swatches

Hello lovelies! I was organising my eyeshadow palettes and looking at the insane number of Sleek ones I’ve managed to collect over the past few years, I was bamboozled about why I haven't reviewed any of them yet?! To be really honest with you all, I despise doing swatches but I’m trying my best so I hope they aren’t too bad!)

sleek-oh-so-special-eyeshadow-palette-review-swatches

Sleek are very well known for their eyeshadows and their blushes and as a brand they have only gotten better and better with the years! Their palettes cost £7.99 which is incredibly affordable and amazing value for money, so you can’t blame me for ending up with more than two/three! If I had to pick an all time favourite from the ones I own, it would be the Oh So Special Palette. It has every single shade I could want or need for a daytime or evening look!

I’ve owned this palette for at least a year and a half and when the Naked 3 palette was released I was surprised by how much the swatches online reminded me of this very palette! No, the pigmentation doesn’t rival Urban Decay, but for everyday with a decent primer this is amazing. Also, this is one of their older palettes and the newer one’s formulas are even more refined - Sleek really are getting better and better!

sleek-oh-so-special-eyeshadow-palette-review-swatches

The packaging is the standard Sleek style, with a full mirror in the lid which is always mighty useful when travelling. On the downside the casing of the eyeshadow palette is easy to get grubby (as you can see from above) and even a face wipe had a tough time cleaning it! Each shadow has it’s own name, which is pretty cute but I do wish they had written the names under the shadows, or at least on the back like MUA had the initiative to do, because the plastic sheet that fits inside is very easy to lose.

sleek-oh-so-special-eyeshadow-palette-review-swatches

Of the 12 eyeshadows, 7 are matte and 5 are buttery shimmer shades. I’m going to run through each shade and then show more swatches below.

Bow: The perfect bone/off white matte shade, this is my go-to base when I don’t want to do too much with my eyes, but I want to set the concealer (which covers up the darkness on the lid). Its also the perfect brow bone highlight as shimmer under the brow isn’t usually a good look...unless its your prom..or your wedding ya feel? Unfortunately it hasn’t swatched well here at all, but on the lid with a primer it really is my most used shade of the palette.

Organza: A buttery shimmery pink with lots of pigment to it. What I love about this palette is that none of the shimmery shades have any hints of glitter in them. This has a slight silver undertone to it, but its stunning and the pigment really does rival Urban Decay.

Ribbon: Is a matte coral pink shade and I love using this to jazz up a basic neutral eye every now and again. The fact that its matte means it doesn't stand out too much, making it appropriate for the day time. Shimmery pops of colour on the lid are more a night time thing for me personally.

Gift Basket: A beautiful buttery medium brown shade, which would be the perfect base for a smoky eye from this palette!

Glitz: Reminds me of UD’s Gunmetal, its a mix between a blue and a silver and its a nice shade to add if you want to add some definition under the eyes but don’t want to use a black shade.

Celebrate: A stunning deep purple, with insane pigmentation after just one sweep! This shade looks stunning contrasted with Ribbon, and again is fantastic for smoking out any look. I find by adding a little of this into the crease, it’s less harsh than black but still adds sultry definition so well.

Pamper: A stunning light pink, which is again is matte and super pigmented!

Gateau: My least favourite shimmery shade of the palette but not a dud at all. Its very much a silverish-pink, and is a decent inner-corner highlight but that’s about how versatile it is for me.

The Mail: THE PERFECT TRANSITION SHADE EVER I adore this shade! A matte camel-tone, a lot of times I will grab this palette just for this shade because using a transition shade makes eyeshadow looks pull together, and especially for my skin tone I love this!

Boxed: A dark brown matte shade, which I use sooo much! It looks gorgeous with the matte and shimmery pinks, and also 'Gift Basket’. I personally love adding some shadow under the lower lashline and this is my go-to shade normally as its simple but effective in adding some subtle definition!

Wrapped Up: A matte dark taupe colour, which looks stunning with the shade celebrate to create a warmer sultry smoky eye. On the other hand, its perfect used lightly in the crease for a little bit of definition for day time looks as well as night time.

Noir: A satisfyingly pigmented matte black, there’s not a whole lot to say about this aside from its a basic shade that everyone should own - and Sleek’s noir is pretty good.

sleek-oh-so-special-eyeshadow-palette-review-swatches

And that is the review for my favourite Sleek palette right now! It’s one that fabulous for beginners to makeup and eyeshadow, but also valuable to people who have been dabbling about with the stuff for a while.

Which is your favourite Sleek E/S Palette?
